Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Here are three hints to a 1983 comedy: Griswolds, Aunt Edna and Walley World. Which one of these films do these clues refer to?

Answer: National Lampoon's Vacation

'National Lampoon's Vacation'(1983) stars Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold. He plans a family vacation with his wife Ellen (played by Beverly D'Angelo), his son Rusty (Anthony Michael Hall), and daughter Audrey (Dana Barron). They do a road trip on their way to Walley World, and run into some problems along the way.

Some of the inconveniences are due to the fact that they have to bring Aunt Edna along for part of the ride. This film has a cast of well known stars, including, Randy Quaid, John Candy, Christie Brinkley and Imogene Coca as Aunt Edna.
2. Which of these movies has to do with these three hints: a videotape, a well, seven days?

Answer: The Ring

'The Ring' is a 2002 American re-make of 'Ringu', which is a 1998 Japanese horror film. Naomi Watts plays the role of Rachel, who is a journalist trying to investigate the death of her niece, Katie. Turns out, Katie died mysteriously seven days after watching a very strange videotape that shows different images (some disturbing), then is followed by a phone ringing, and a voice saying the words, "Seven days".

The videotape is found to be linked to a young girl named Samara, who died after being thrown into a well by her mother. Anyone who watches the tape winds up dead.
3. Which 1975 film has to do with these three hints: Hooper, Orca, barrels?

Answer: Jaws

The 1975 blockbuster hit, 'Jaws', stars Roy Scheider as Martin Brody, who is the chief of police on Amity Island. Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw play the roles of Matt Hooper and Quint, who along with Brody, go out to hunt the great white shark on Quints boat, the Orca.

At one point, they try to get the shark to the surface of the water by harpooning it with flotation barrels, but this does not turn out to be successful.
4. Fragile, Red Ryder, Little Orphan Annie - those are the three hints. Now name the movie.

Answer: A Christmas Story

'A Christmas Story' (1983), stars Peter Billingsley as Ralphie. All he wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder carbon-action 200-shot range model air rifle. The movie shows the days leading up to Christmas day as an adult Ralphie tells the story. 'Little Orphan Annie' is a radio show that Ralphie would listen to.

He couldn't wait to receive his Secret Society decoder pin in the mail so he could find out the secret message that was being sent from Little Orphan Annie herself. The word 'Fragile' comes from the scene where Ralphie's father receives a crate with the word 'Fragile' on it.

It is a major award that the old man wins. When he opens the crate, he finds it contains the famous leg lamp.
5. Haddonfield, babysitting, William Shatner - which film has these three clues?

Answer: Halloween

'Halloween' (1978), is a classic horror film directed and produced by John Carpenter. Carpenter also created the musical score for the film. The movie takes place in Haddonfield, Illinois, where killer Michael Myers stalks Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis).

While she is babysitting, Michael shows up to kill her. He wears a mask that is a likeness of actor William Shatner. This film spawned many sequels, and is still a favorite among horror fans today.
6. Name the movie that these three hints represent: Hicks, Vasquez and Ripley.

Answer: Aliens

'Aliens'(1986) is the sequel to the 1979 classic, 'Alien'. Sigourney Weaver stars again as Ellen Ripley, who returns to the planet of LV-426. This time she returns with a unit of Colonial Marines, to help seek and destroy the aliens. Corporal Dwayne Hicks and Private Jenette Vasquez are played by Michael Biehn and Jenette Goldstein.
7. Tainted water, quarantined, Code: Trixie; which movie am I talking about?

Answer: The Crazies

'The Crazies'(1973), written and directed by George A. Romero, is about a small town that becomes exposed to a military biological weapon. The result of this is that the town's water supply becomes toxic, causing the townspeople to become, well, as the movie's title states.

The virus' code name is 'Trixie', which is also the alternate title of this film. A re-make was made in 2010, starring Timothy Olyphant.
8. Vic, Ramona & suburbia are the three hints for this 1981 comedy. Which one?

Answer: Neighbors

'Neighbors'(1981), stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. It is about a man named Earl Keese (played by Belushi) and his wife Enid. They live in a very quiet suburban area. When their new quirky neighbors Vic and Ramona move into the house next door to them, their lives are turned upside down, with Earl getting pretty much the worst end of it.

This was Belushi's last film. The role of Vic is played hilariously by Dan Aykroyd.
9. Mechanic, drummer & Amanda Jones are the three hints to which of these films?

Answer: Some Kind of Wonderful

This 1987 romantic comedy was written by John Hughes. It stars Eric Stoltz as high schooler Keith Nelson, who works as a car mechanic. His best friend is a tomboy named Watts (played by Mary Stuart Masterson), who plays drums. Keith has a crush on Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson), who just happens to be the most popular girl in school, and way out of his league.

He decides to ask her out, which of course causes some drama to the story, since Watts is secretly in love with Keith. Craig Sheffer and Elias Koteas also star in this great film.
10. Hook, say the name five times and mirror are the three hints given for this creepy horror film. Which one?

Answer: Candyman

'Candyman'(1992) is a horror film that stars Virginia Madsen and Tony Todd. The legend has it that when you say the name Candyman five times in the mirror, he will appear and kill you with his hook that he has in place of his missing hand. This film spawned two sequels that are subtitled, 'Farewell to the Flesh', and 'Day of the Dead'.
