Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the 1938 comedy "Bringing Up Baby", what kind of animal is Baby?

Answer: leopard

Cary Grant played a paleontologist whose priceless dinosaur bone accidentally finds itself in the possession of heiress Katharine Hepburn's dog. In addition to finding the bone, the two of them must find her wayward leopard, Baby, who has wandered off. Charlie Ruggles and May Robson also starred in this Howard Hawks directed comedy.
2. Four office workers in Calgary have a wager to see who can last the longest without going outside of the city's interconnected offices, malls and apartments. On day 24, the pressure begins wearing on each one of them. Which movie is this?

Answer: Waydowntown

This quirky Canadian comedy from 2000 starred Fabrizio Filippo, Gordon Currie, Marya Delver and Jennifer Clement. The movie was directed and co-written by Gary Burns.
3. In "The Pick-up Artist", who played the lead role of Jack, the pick-up artist?

Answer: Robert Downey Jr.

From 1987, "The Pick-up Artist" starred Downey as Jack Jericho, a young man who has perfected the art of picking up women. He meets one woman, Randy (Molly Ringwald), who could make him give up other women, but she doesn't want anything to do with him after a quick fling in the park.

The movie was written and directed by James Toback, and also starred Dennis Hopper, Harvey Keitel and Danny Aiello.
4. What does "gray lady" in 1978's "Gray Lady Down" refer to?

Answer: submarine

A U.S. nuclear submarine, captained by Charlton Heston, is rammed by a freighter, sinks to the ocean bottom and hangs near a two-mile deep precipice. David Carradine and his experimental DSRV, called SNARK, are put into action to rescue the surviving crewmembers before an undersea quake dislodges the sub, the oxygen on the sub runs out or the water pressure crushes the sub.

This thriller was based on David Lavallee's novel, "Incident 1000", and also starred Stacy Keach, Ronny Cox, Ned Beatty, and in his feature film debut, Christopher Reeve.
5. Who played the leading man to Michelle Pfeiffer in "Up Close & Personal"?

Answer: Robert Redford

Michelle Pfeiffer played Tally Atwater, an ambitious rookie TV reporter who is guided to stardom by her boss, Warren Justice (Redford), with whom she falls in love. Also starring in 1996's "Up Close & Personal" were Joe Mantegna, Stockard Channing and Kate Nelligan. The movie was nominated for an Oscar for its original song, "Because You Loved Me", sung by Celine Dion.
6. Which of these movies included Josh Hartnett, William Fichtner, Jeremy Piven and Orlando Bloom in its cast?

Answer: Black Hawk Down

Detailing a short mission by U.S. Army Rangers in Somalia which turned into a life or death battle lasting the better part of a day, "Black Hawk Down" also starred Sam Shepard, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, Eric Bana and Jason Isaacs.
7. Which actress did not play one of the Mozell sisters in 2000's "Hanging Up"?

Answer: Renee Zellweger

"Hanging Up" is about three sisters and how each handles the relationship with their cantankerous father (Walter Matthau in his final role) who is on his death bed. None of them is particularly close to him, and only one (Ryan) deals with him on a regular basis. Cloris Leachman and Adam Arkin also starred in this comedy drama which was also directed by Diane Keaton.
8. Which sitcom actor starred as Lt. Cmdr. Tom Dodge in 1996's "Down Periscope"?

Answer: Kelsey Grammer

To save his career, Lt. Cmdr. Dodge must prove his skills in war games played against sophisticated ships and submarines with highly experienced crews. Unfortunately what he is given to use is a past-its-prime diesel submarine with a crew of misfits. "Down Periscope" may have slipped under your movie-viewing radar, but it is a very funny film.

The movie also starred Lauren Holly, Rob Schneider, William H. Macy and Bruce Dern.
9. In "Up In Smoke", what are the main characters, Pedro and Man, mostly preoccupied with obtaining?

Answer: marijuana

Pedro and Man (Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong) spend a lot of time trying to score some pot, even while they're unknowingly driving a van made of marijuana which they've driven from Tijuana. Sgt. Stedenko (Stacy Keach) closes in on them as they participate in a Battle of the Bands contest.

This is the first, and by far the best, of the Cheech and Chong movies. My favorite scene is when the cop asks a stoned Pedro for his license. Pedro's response, "Isn't it on the bumper, man?".
10. In "Falling Down", Michael Douglas played a laid-off engineer whose disillusionment leads to madness one day in Los Angeles. A cop working his last day before retirement tracks him across the city. Who played the cop, Prendergast?

Answer: Robert Duvall

1993's "Falling Down" was directed by Joel Schumacher, and also starred Barbara Hershey, Frederic Forrest and Tuesday Weld.
