Answer: Tom's old house

They both seem hesitant to bring up that particular location, although Hallie always loved the cactus flowers. Years before, Hallie had been Tom's girlfriend. He had brought her a cactus rose for her garden. His house would have been hers too, if Ranse had not come to Shinbone to live. Link suggests they could head out to the desert (which was where Tom lived), to see the flowers and Hallie agrees.

2. What name does Tom Doniphon call Ranse in the movie?

Answer: Pilgrim

Although no reason is given in the movie, it seems to Tom that Ranse is a pilgrim, an unprepared newcomer in a totally foreign land.

3. When they go to the undertaker's to pay their respects to Tom, who tells the undertaker to put Tom's boots, gunbelt and spurs on him?

Answer: Ranse Stoddard

Link tells Ranse that Tom had not worn a gunbelt for many years, but the undertaker has Tom's boots ready at the end of the movie.

Everyone in Shinbone knows Hallie is Tom's girl, but he is very sparing with his compliments and his time for her. He really is in love, and wants to marry her, but she falls for Ranse in the meantime.

Answer: Peter Ericson

Peter was in Ranse's class at the school he started in Shinbone. On election day he is dressed in his suit and tie and is visibly proud, holding up his certificate with the ribbon on it.

Answer: throws a mean punch

This comment comes from the one and only time Ranse punches Tom in the movie. Tom falls to the ground and sits up with that totally bewildered look and expression on his face that only he could deliver.
