Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rickie Lee Jones was the original singer of "The Horses" and the songwriter along with Walter Becker but an Aussie had a great version. Who was the singer?

Answer: Darryl Braithwaite

Darryl Braithwaite was the lead singer of Sherbert where he obtained a lot of success and the band's song "Howzat" became a cricket anthem. I think this is his best solo song.
2. "Dear Prudence" sung by the Beatles in 1968 is a well known song but around the pub scene in Australia this was sung by?

Answer: Doug Parkinson

Doug Parkinson was a well known singer and performer in the pub scene of the 1960s and 1970s and often called the best singer in the land.
3. Richard Harris is a renowned actor and recorded the song "MacArthur Park" but our Aussie bloke did a fantastic version. What was the singer?

Answer: Jeff Duff - Kush

Jeff Duff was a controversial singer in the '70s who dressed up and was quite outrageous (for the times). He has a wonderful singing voice and did, in my opinion, a great version of this song. Actually the whole album is worth owning. Later he became a fixture on "The Midday Show".
4. "Funky Town" was recorded by Lipps Inc, a song written by Steven Greenberg, it is a very up beat song creating lots of toe tapping. Who was the Aussie cover done by?

Answer: Pseudo Echo

A great version done by the band and I certainly thought it was great on the pub scene in the 1980s.
5. In 1965 Little Eva had a great hit song with "Locomotion". Our Sharlene from Neighbours made her own version with her style and interpretation. Who was it?

Answer: Kylie Minogue

At a footy charity event Kylie did an impromptu performance of "Locomotion". Mushroom Records signed Kylie and released it as a single, where it became number 1 around Australia and set the record as the biggest Australian single of the decade.
6. One of the most famous Beatles songs "Help" was sung by an Australian Icon who did a really different version. Which Australian icon sung it?

Answer: John Farnham

John has a huge music career, been King of Pop, singer with Little River Band, Musicals and a great solo recording history. This was a come back song in 1980. But he has done so much more since then.
7. Speaking of the Beatles there is another song of theirs "Eleanor Rigby", something about rice and a churchyard. What Aussie band made a hit of this song?

Answer: Zoot

This was a great cover by Zoot known for their pink suits, later the members went their separate ways. Rick Springfield for his solo career and acting in the US, Beeb Birtles for his founding of Little River Band, and Darryl Cotton involved in both the music and TV arena.
8. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles were a smooth American band that sang an amazing amount of songs including "The Tracks of My Tears". What Aussie did a cover of it?

Answer: Peter Andre

What can one say. Peter is possibly more known for being married to Katie Price than anything else. Peter has a musical career that turned into TV appearances.
9. Who would have believed it? INXS doing a cover? But yes they did, a song by another Australian Band. Can you pick the band and the song that INXS covered?

Answer: Easybeats - "Good Times"

The Easybeats were a sixties band that had great success in England. They were the first Aussie band to make international success with "Friday on My Mind".
10. Young Talent Time produced a number of well known artists but which one did a cover of Gene Pitney's Crystals song "He's a Rebel"?

Answer: Debra Byrne

Young Talent Time was a variety program hosted by musician Johnny Young in the 1970s and 1980s. The show had a core group of young singers and a Junior Talent Contest.
