Dolly Parton wrote and performed "Nine to Five" for the movie of the same name, starring Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Parton was the fourth of twelve children (eleven survivng infancy), all born to her mother before she reached the age of 35.

Eddie Rabbitt has been very successful in the music industry, both as a writer and a performer. He has racked up 16 number one hits to his credit, as well as having written songs like "Kentucky Rain" for Elvis Presley.

Pulled together in the late sixties and early seventies, REO Speedwagon did not become really established until the album "Hi Infidelity" sold 9 million copies. Written by band member Kevin Cronin, "Keep On Lovin' You" was the biggest hit single from that album.

Daryl Hall and John Oates met when they were both students at Temple University. They soon found that their musical tastes were similar, and their talents complemented each other. While not one of my favourites, "Kiss On My List" was their second number one hit, the first being "Rich Girl".

Kool and the Gang formed in the mid 60s, as a bunch of teenagers playing jazz. They changed their name and their style in the mid 70s, inspired by the funky music of Sly and the Family Stone. They disappeared from the scene during the disco years, until about 1979, when adding a new lead singer started them on a second, even more successful career.

Australian Rick Springfield spent a few years as a heart-throb on the soap opera "General Hospital" before scoring big with "Jessie's Girl". Springfield earned a Grammy for Best Male Rock Performance for the song, which he wrote himself.

Diana Ross (formerly of the Supremes) and Lionel Richie (of the Commodores) had a huge hit with this duet. Richie started his solo recording career before formally splitting from the Commodores, right around the time that this song was recorded.

Kenny Rogers has often been referred to as country music's most successful cross-over artist. He started his singing career with The First Edition, and The New Christy Minstrels. He began his solo recording career in 1976, and had his first number one hit on the Pop charts with this beautiful love song.

Answer: Starting Over

With the 1975 birth of his son, former Beatle, John Lennon, abandoned his music career for five years, so that he could devote his time to his family. Tragically, John was assassinated by a fan on Dec. 8, 1980. "Starting Over" was a posthumous hit for him.

Answer: Bette Davis Eyes

Although she has had a long and successful career as a song writer, Kim Carnes did not write this number one hit. It was written by Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss.
