Answer: Take On Me

Norwegian group A-Ha were awarded 8 MTV Video Music awards for this single which sold over 20 millions copies. Unfortunately I have absolutely no memory of the song whatsoever! A-Ha, a trio who had been playing together since their early teens, did go on to write and perform the hit song for the Bond movie, "The Living Daylights".
2. What was the #9 hit for the year 1985? "I'm ____________. Touch me once and you'll know it's true. I never wanted anyone like this, It's all brand new, you'll feel it in my kiss, I'm _____________."

Answer: Crazy for You

Madonna grew up with dreams of becoming a ballet dancer, and actually trained in classical dance under choreographer Alvin Ailey. Her talents soon made her turn to music, and she sang in a few groups before releasing her debut, self-titled solo album in '83.
"Crazy for You", off of her second album, "Like a Virgin", was her second number one hit.
3. What was the #8 hit for the year 1985? "Reaching out for something to hold. Looking for a love where the climate is cold. Manic moves and drowsy dreams, Or living in the middle between the two extremes. Smoking guns, hot to the touch, Would cool down if we didn't use them so much."

Answer: Out of Touch

Hall and Oates had their first number one hit in 1974. Ten years later the Recording Industry Association of America proclaimed them to be the 'most successful duo in rock history', edging out the Everly Brothers who had previously held the title.
"Out of Touch" was another number one hit for them, off of their album "Big Bam Boom".
4. What was the #7 hit for the year 1985? "In my life there's been heartache and pain. I don't know if I can face it again. Can't stop now, I've travelled so far, to change this lonely life. I want to know what love is, I want you to show me."

Answer: I Want to Know What Love Is

Formed in '76, Foreigner had many top ten hits, but had to wait 9 years for "I Want to Know What Love Is" to become their first number one hit. Off of their album "Agent Provocateur", the song featured the wonderful harmonies of the New Jersey Mass Choir singing back-up.
5. What was the #6 hit for the year 1985? "Now look at them yo-yo's, that's the way you do it, You play the guitar on the MTV. That ain't workin', that's the way you do it, Money for nothin' and chicks for free. Now that ain't workin', that's the way you do it, Lemme tell ya them guys ain't dumb. Answer: Money for Nothing

"Money for Nothing" was a huge hit for Dire Straits, which was led by singer/writer/guitarist Mark Knopfler. "Money for Nothing" was off of their breakthrough album, "Brothers In Arms", and featured Sting singing back-up. "Brothers In Arms" sold over 9 million copies, and spent an amazing 9 weeks at number one on the album charts.
6. What was the #5 hit for the year 1985? "Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan. Chaka Khan, Let me love you, Let me rock you, Chaka Khan. Let me rock you, That's all I wanna do."

Answer: I Feel For You

Chaka Khan is probably best know for this cover of a song by Prince, which is another song that I have no memory of.
Born Yvette Marie Stevens, Chaka took her African name (Chaka means 'Fire') while working on a breakfast program that was run by the Black Panthers. She first came to fame while singing with Rufus, a group she joined when she was only 18 years-old.
7. What was the #4 hit for the year 1985? "There's a room where the light won't find you. Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down. When they do I'll be right behind you. So glad we've almost made it, So sad they had to fade it. ___________________________."

Answer: Everybody Wants to Rule the World

Friends since childhood, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith both came from broken homes. They found that Arthur Janov's primal scream therapy was a positive way of dealing with their anxieties. Tears for Fears, the name they adopted for their singing duo, was an expression taken from that therapy. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" was off of their second album, "Songs From the Big Chair".
8. What was the #3 hit for the year 1985? "You put the boom-boom into my heart, You send my soul sky high when your lovin' starts. Jitterbug into my brain, Goes a bang-bang-bang 'til my feet do the same. But something's bugging you, something ain't right. My best friend told me what you did last night. Left me sleepin' in my bed, I was dreaming, but I should have been with you instead."

Answer: Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley met at school. Together they formed Wham!, a duo whose approach to music was blatantly and unashamedly pop. They were so intent on image, that they were even known to 'stuff' the front on their pants when making television appearances. Written by George Michael, "Wake Me Up" was their first world-wide hit.
9. What was the #2 song of 1985? "I made it through the wilderness. Somehow I made it through. Didn't know how lost I was, Until I found you. I was beat, incomplete, I'd been had, I was sad and blue. But you made me feel, Yeah, you made me feel, Shiny and new."

Answer: Like a Virgin

More in control of her music and image than perhaps any female performer before her, Madonna has proven to be a master at playing and manipulating the media - reinventing herself whenever she felt like it. This was her first number one hit, off of her album of the same name, which established her as a force to be reckoned with.
10. What was the #1 hit of the year 1985? "I'm never gonna dance again, guilty feet have got no rhythm. Though it's easy to pretend, I know you're not a fool. Should've known better than to cheat a friend, and waste the chance that I've been given. So I'm never gonna dance again, the way I danced with you."

Answer: Careless Whisper

"Careless Whisper" was released under the name George Michael of Wham!, leading many to speculate that he was positioning himself to go solo. Shortly after it was released, the group's manager sold his interests in the group to a South African entertainment group. Wham! immediately spilt up, citing a disagreement with South African politics as the reason.
