Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton were all lead guitartists in what classic rock band of the 1960's?

Answer: The Yardbirds

Eric Clapton was the original lead guitarist of The Yardbirds. When he decided to leave the band he asked Jimmy Page to replace him. Jimmy Page felt their might be bad blood in the group since he and Eric were close friends so he asked another close friend, Jeff Beck to take Eric's place. Jeff Beck took the offer, then when he left he turned the band over to Page who was invited to help in a tour when their bassist became ill.

When the bassist returned Jimmy moved to rythym guitar until Beck left.
2. What band had Pete Townsend, Roger Daltrey and Keith Moon as members?

Answer: The Who

With Pete on guitar, Roger on vocals most of the time, Keith on drums, and John Entwistle on bass, The Who was a success. They headlined The Woodstock Music and Art Festival in August 1969. They had several hits including "My Generation", "I Can See For Miles", "Pinball Wizard" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" just to name a few.
3. When Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss and Paul Stanley went on stage, what name did they call their band?

Answer: Kiss

When Kiss first came into the music scene, they were dressed in wild attire and wore makeup to hide their true faces. They were known to put on outrageous concerts with lots of pyrotechnics. It was rumored Gene Simmons cut the back of his tongue on the bottom in a planned surgery to make it longer for their stage shows.
4. John, Paul, George and Ringo were known as the Fab Four. What was their official band name?

Answer: The Beatles

Hailing from Liverpool, England in 1963, The Beatles were an instant success around the world. They made their debut in the United States in February 1964. Every album they released while they were a band went gold in only a few weeks.
5. John Densmore, Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, and Robby Krieger got their start as a bar band in Los Angeles, California. What name did they appear as on both records and in concert?

Answer: The Doors

Ray Manzarek's younger brother was a member of The Doors in their early bar band days. He left the band saying that they would never make it big unless they got rid of Jim Morrison. In the four years that they recorded and released studio albums they put out only six, but also released a live album "Absolutely Live" and a greatest hits album "13".

The debut album "The Doors" was the second best seller of the year behind The Beatles' "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". I guess Ray Manzarek's younger brother was a little bit off on his conclusion of The Doors with Jim Morrison.
6. Peter Green, Bob Welch and Lindsey Buckingham were all guitarists for which band?

Answer: Fleetwood Mac

Peter Green came up with the name Fleetwood Mac from a song he recorded titled Fleetwood Mac. When Peter Green played with John Mayal, Mayal gave him studio time to produce a single. Peter did not know what to call it so he called it Fleetwood Mac since Mick Fleetwood and John McVie were on the record. Fleetwood Mac was originally called Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac.
7. They hail from Rockford, Illinois; the members included Rick Nielsen, Robin Zander, Bun E. Carlos and Tom Petersson but are collectively known as what band?

Answer: Cheap Trick

Cheap Trick hit the music scene in 1977 with their self titled album. They continued to release albums based on the songs they played in the bars in Illinois; on of the few bar bands to perform such an act. In their early years they refused to give out details of where they were from. Rick Nielsen was an avid guitar collector and in the early years played a different guitar on each song.
8. When Tommy Shaw, James Young and Lawrence Gowan go on stage, the announcers tell you that ___ is the next band to play.

Answer: Styx

Styx had their first album released in 1972 and have been rocking the music scene ever since. They are from the Chicago area. James Young is more commonly refered to as just J. Y.
9. Gary Richrath, Alan Gratzer and Neal Doughty were founding members of what rock band?

Answer: REO Speedwagon

Gary Richrath and Alan Gratzer left REO in the late 1980's. REO had been recording and touring since 1971.
10. Richie Blackmore, Ian Gillian, Roger Glover, and Ian Paice were all members of which classic rock band?

Answer: Deep Purple

Their best selling album "Machine Head" caught the world by surprise in 1972. They also shocked the rock world with their breakup in the mid 1970's, joining forces to create two great bands, Richie Blackmore's Rainbow and Whitesnake.
