Dan was the youngest of three sons of Margaret (née Young), a classically-trained pianist, and Lawrence Peter Fogelberg, a high school band director.

Released in 1972, it contains "To The Morning" which he would typically open his solo acoustic concerts with. "This was the first song that made me think I might actually make it as a songwriter."

Released in in 1974 and powered by the single "Part of the Plan," "Souvenirs" became his first in a string of seven consecutive platinum albums.
