The group was also billed as The Dixie Belles with Cornbread and Jerry. The Dixie Belles consisted originally of members of The Anita Kerr Singers. When the song became a hit a group of girls was recruited to tour in support of the song. Their third single failed to make the Top 100 and they never released another single.
Members of the group formed The Charmels and recorded unsuccessful singles for the Stax label in the late sixties.
The Orlons had a Top Twenty release in 1963 with "Cross Fire!". "Wait 'Till My Bobby Gets Home" went to Number 26 for Darlene Love the same year. "Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah" was a 1963 Top Ten by Bob B. Soxx and The Blue Jeans.

The same year Head East released their "Flat as a Pancake" LP.
4. In 1964 The Dixie Cups' single, "Chapel of Love", made it to the Number One spot in the US.

Answer: True

In 1964 "Chapel of Love" reached the Number One slot and remained there for three weeks. Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector wrote the song and it was recorded by the Ronettes and The Blossoms, but the New-Orleans-based Dixie Cups ended up having the biggest hit with their version of the song. Producer Joe Jones managed the group and produced the song for the fledgling Red Birds Records.

It was the label's first major hit single. The Dixie Cups began as a trio called Little Miss and the Muffets and consisted of sisters Rosa Lee and Barbara Ann Hawkins along with a cousin, Joan Marie Johnson.
5. "An American Trilogy" contains excerpts from "Dixie", "All My Trials" and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". Elvis popularized the medley in concerts beginning in 1972. Which artist released the first recording of the medley in 1971?

Answer: Mickey Newbury

Mickey Newbury recorded the song medley on his 1971 album, "Frisco Mabel Joy". It was also featured on his 1973 concert LP, "Live At Montezuma Hall". His single release of the song reached Number 26 on the US Pop Charts in 1971. Elvis' rendition was released as a single the following year but only made it to Number 66.

The group is no stranger to the Grammy Awards. In 2000 they were inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame for their 1946 rendition of "Amazing Grace". In 1973 they also garnered the award for "Best Soul Gospel Performance" as a result of their contribution to "Loves Me Like a Rock".

Answer: Georgia Satellites

Their rendition of "Hippy Hippy Shake" was featured in the 1988 movie, "Cocktail", but the exposure failed to propel the single above the Number 45 slot.
