Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the founder of the band Erasure?

Answer: Vince Clarke

Vince originally founded the band in 1985 after choosing Andy Bell to join him. He had previously been in Yazoo/Yaz with Alison Moyet (1981), formed Depeche Mode with Dave Gahan and recorded a single with Paul Quinn. He was also the founder of short-lived band The Assembly with Feargal Sharkey in 1984.
2. How did Vince Clarke and Andy Bell meet?

Answer: Bell answered Clarke's newspaper ad.

Andy sent in a demo tape in response to the ad and was chosen out of 40 applicants.
3. Which was Erasure's first album?

Answer: Wonderland

"Wonderland" was released in 1986. "The Innocents" came in 1988 and "Erasure" not until 1995. "Sometimes" is not an album name, but is the name of their first hit song.
4. What was Erasure's first hit in America?

Answer: Chains of Love

1988's "Chains of Love" launched the band's career in America, reaching #12 on the charts. The band was already popular in England, thanks to their first hit, "Sometimes."
5. Which album consists of mostly remixes and live performances?

Answer: Two Ring Circus

Featuring songs from both "Wonderland" and "The Circus"- the album "Two Ring Circus" actually stands very well on its own. Be sure to check out the live performance cover of ABBA's "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme".
6. After 3 years of compilation CDs and singles, Erasure released this album in 1994, featuring their hit "Always," as well as "Run to the Sun" and "I Love Saturday".

Answer: I Say, I Say, I Say

The first song on the album, "Take Me Back," contains the great line: "Take me back where I see butterflies, to-ing, fro-ing".
7. From which group did Erasure remake four songs, even naming the EP after said group?

Answer: ABBA

The album "ABBA-Esque" features remakes of the songs "Lay All Your Love On Me", "SOS", "Take a Chance on Me" and "Voulez-Vous." In return, Bjorn Again, an ABBA tribute band recorded several Erasure songs and released the album "Erasure-ish"!

Pet Shop Boys are a similar group and David Bowie is one of their influences. As far as I know, they have no connection to the Bee-Gees.
8. Which album experimented with a departure from their usual pop style?

Answer: Erasure

Most of the songs on their self-title album are slow, with long introductions and few lyrics. It includes guest singers "London Community Gospel Choir" in the songs "Stay With Me" and "Rock Me Gently." Also interesting, the songs are all fairly long- the longest at 10 minutes.
9. In 2003, Erasure released a cover album, appropriately titled "Other People's Songs." Which of the following covers is not on this album?

Answer: River Deep, Mountain High

"River Deep, Mountain High" was featured on the album "The Innocents." Other great covers on this album are "Everyday", "Make Me Smile" and "Goodnight." Oddly, this album does not include a single ABBA song.
10. Erasure released a DVD called "Hits! The Videos" in 2003. However they did not release an accompanying CD.

Answer: false

It features 12 songs that were included on "Pop! The First 20 Hits" as well as songs from newer albums. It features nothing from "Erasure" and has two versions of the song "Oh L'amour".
