Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Released in 1966, this song is the title track for the group's first album. You'll have to go back to your roots for this one. What song begins with the line: "Don't bother cryin', don't bother crawlin'; It's all over now, no use in stallin'"

Answer: Where Were You When I Needed You

Written by P. F. Sloan and Steve Barri and performed by the Grass Roots, this song reached number 28 on the charts.
2. The title track of this band's second album, what song begins with the line: "Virgin lands of forest green, dark and stormy plains, here all life abounds"

Answer: Song For America

Five hundred years of American environmental history condensed into ten minutes, "Song For America" was written by Kerry Livgren and performed by Kansas. My older brother told me to listen to the song like I would read a book, advice I've used on many other songs and albums since.
3. "Lately im learnin', that so many yearnings are never to be" is the first line of which song 'shot' in 1981?

Answer: Fantasy Girl

Performed by .38 Special on their fourth album "Wild Eyed Southern Boys", it was written by band members Jeff Carlisi and Jim Peterick. .38 Special has performed at our small county fair three times now, and are only improving with age.
4. Which song starts out: "I read the news today, Oh boy"?

Answer: A Day In The Life

Written by Lennon/McCartney, sung by The Beatles on the classic album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Enough said.
5. Which song begins: "I looked out this morning and the sun was gone"?

Answer: More Than A Feeling

Written in 1976 by Tom Scholz and performed, of course, by Boston on their debut album, "Boston". One of the songs I never get tired of hearing.
6. "I been drivin' all night, hands wet on the wheel" is the first line to which song performed by a Dutch band in 1973?

Answer: Radar Love

A classic song from Golden Earring's ninth album "Moontan". Barry Hay and George Kooymans wrote this 1973 song.
7. And now for a little fantasy. Which song starts with the line: "Hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk with you again"?

Answer: The Sounds Of Silence

Written by Paul Simon, this was the title track of Simon and Garfunkel's second album released in 1966.
8. From an 'alien' debut album in 1977, which song begins: "I stole a ride on a passing star, not knowing where I was going, how near or how far"?

Answer: Starrider

A fantasy song from Foreigner's self titled first album. If you wonder what it might be like to ride on a passing star, listen to this song.
9. If you took a ride down Desolation Boulevard in 1974, you might know what song begins with the line: "She's got girls, girls all over the world".

Answer: AC DC

Written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, it was performed by Sweet on "Desolation Boulevard". It was also banned by one of the chaperones on our class trip to Florida. Possibly because of the next line, "She's got men every now and then. But she can't make up her mind, just how to fill her time..." oh well, you get the idea. Still one of my favorites.
10. Which song begins: "He had white horses, and ladies by the score"?

Answer: Lucky Man

Performed by Emerson, Lake and Palmer for their self titled first album. Released in 1970 and written by Greg Lake, "Lucky Man" is the story of a rich man who had everything, went to war for his king and was killed. "No money could save him, so he laid down, and he died. Ooo what a Lucky Man he was." Not the sort of an ending I expected when I was in grade school, but it sure made me think about what 'lucky' really meant.
