Answer: Levon Helm

Levon Helm played Captain Jack Ridley in "The Right Stuff," Loretta Lynn's father in "Coal Miner's Daughter," and a firearms expert in "Shooter." He lost his singing voice due to throat cancer, with which he was diagnosed in 1998, but he gradually got it back, and in 2007, he was able to release his album "Dirt Farmer." The album won him a 2008 Grammy Award in the category of Best Traditional Folk Album.
2. He ranked 59th on "Rolling Stone" magazine's 2015 list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time."

Answer: Robbie Robertson

3. "Time" magazine called this member of The Band "the most brilliant organist in the rock world."

Answer: Garth Hudson

In its 1970 cover article on The Band, "Time" magazine reported, "Garth is beyond question the most brilliant organist in the rock world. His improvised variations, drawn from a vast knowledge of popular and classical music, provide both the decorative scroll-work and depth to The Band's total impact." Hudson played Lowrey organ, piano, electronic keyboards, saxophone, and accordion for The Band.

In 2002, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canada South Blues Society.
4. This member of The Band played piano, acted in "Eliza's Horoscope," and committed suicide in 1986.

Answer: Richard Manuel

Richard Manuel was an original member of The Band and also played in the reformulated band from the time of its reconstruction in 1983 until his death in 1986. At the age of 42, he committed suicide in his hotel room following a concert. In "Eliza's Horoscope," which was released in 1975, he played alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Lila Kedrova, and Elizabeth Moorman. Robbie Robertson also appeared in the movie as an extra. Richard Manuel was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Band in 1994.
5. He was the first member of The Band to record a solo album.

Answer: Rick Danko

Rick Danko was offered a contract with Arista Records after The Band's farewell concert in 1976. "Rick Danko" was released in 1977 and featured ten tracks written by Danko himself, sometimes in collaboration with others. Each of the original members of The Band appear on at least one track in the album. For instance, Robbie Robertson played lead guitar on "Java Blues." The album also included other guest musicians: Eric Clapton, Ronnie Wood, Tim Drummond, and others.
6. He joined The Band as a guitarist when they reunited and began touring again in the 1980s.

Answer: Jim Weider

In 1983, The Band reformulated and began touring, absent Robbie Robertson. Jim Weider began playing guitar for the reformulated group at that time, and after the Cate Brothers left the band in 1985, he became the only lead guitarist. He recorded "Jericho," "High on the Hog," and "Jubilation" with The Band and has also released five albums as a solo artist.
7. The group that would become The Band was originally formed as a backing band for this rockabilly singer.

Answer: Ronnie Hawkins

The members of what would later become known simply as The Band joined Ronnie Hawkins individually between the years of 1958 and 1963. They separated from Hawkins in 1964 and began touring on their own.

Ronnie Hawkins is nicknamed "Mr. Dynamo" and "The Hawk" and has recorded over 25 albums with hits (many of them covers) that include "Forty Days," "Mary Lou," "Hey Bo Diddley," and "Susie Q."
8. He hired (what would become) The Band for his U.S. tour in 1965 and his world tour in 1966.

Answer: Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan burst on the music scene in the 1960s when he relocated to New York. By the time he hired the group to back him, he had released four albums, starting with the self-titled "Bob Dylan" in 1962 and most recently "Another Side of Bob Dylan" in 1964. After the 1966 tour, the group moved to New York.
9. He directed the documentary about the band's farewell concert, "The Last Waltz."

Answer: Martin Scorsese

The concert was held on Thanksgiving Day in 1976 and featured such guest musicians as Bob Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and Van Morrison. Martin Scorsese turned his filming of the concert into a documentary which was released in 1978 as "The Last Waltz." Scorsese was already well known for films such as "Mean Streets" and "Taxi Driver." The documentary includes live concert performances as well as Scorsese's interviews with members of The Band.
10. He performed "Such A Night" at The Band's farewell concert.

Answer: Dr. John

Dr. John was one of the many guest musicians at "The Last Waltz." Along with The Band, he performed his own song, "Such a Night," from his 1973 studio album "In the Right Place." Dr. John's music fuses funk, New Orleans R&B, jazz, blues, pop, and rock and roll.
