Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Wilson brothers

Answer: The GAP Band

Other than the Beach Boys, there is another famous band of Wilson brothers. Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert created the GAP Band, a funk band named after streets in their hometown (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine). They are famous for hits such as "You Dropped a Bomb on me," "Outstanding," and "Early in the Morning."
2. Eddie and Alex

Answer: Van Halen

Guitarist Eddie Van Halen and his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen, created a mega-successful band named after their last name with singer David Lee Roth. They found instant success with their 1978 self-titled debut album, which is famous largely for "Eruption," an all-guitar instrumental where Eddie shows off his skill, which was greater than that of almost any other rock guitarist of the time. Roth's last album with the group before his first departure from the band was "1984," an album that came out in the year of its name and featured the mega-hit "Jump." Roth was replaced with Sammy Hagar after that. With Hagar, Van Halen released four straight number one albums from 1986-1995 until Hagar left. Since then, the band have gone through several different singers and sometimes have reunited with former singers.

Van Halen had 13 number one hits on the U.S. modern chart, which was an all-time record until 2018, when Three Days Grace broke that record.
3. The Davies brothers

Answer: The Kinks

Ray and Dave Davies formed the Kinks in the 1960s. The Kinks were part of the British Invasion, which also features the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Who. Their biggest hit in the United States is "You Really Got Me," which went to the top 10 on the U.S. Billboard top 100 chart in 1964, and a Van Halen cover of the song was also a top 50 hit in the U.S. and Canada. Another major hit of theirs was "Lola," which was parodied by Weird Al Yankovic as "Yoda."

Bands that cite the Kinks as an influence include the Ramones, the Clash, Van Halen, Oasis, and Blur.
4. The Almqvist brothers

Answer: The Hives

Howlin' Pelle Almqvist and his brother Nicholaus Almqvist created the Hives, a punk rock band from Sweden. Their song "Hate to Say I Told You So," charted in six different countries and their song "Walk Idiot Walk" charted in eight different countries.

Their songs "Main Offender" and "Tick Tick Boom" have been used in T.V. commercials. ELO frontman Jeff Lynne has a co-write on the Hives' 2012 single "Go Right Ahead" because part of it sounds like ELO's hit "Don't Bring me Down."
5. The Loeffler brothers

Answer: Chevelle

Pete, Joe, and Sam Loeffler formed Chevelle, a 21st century nu-metal band. Their second album, led by the hit singles "The Red," "Send the Pain Below," and "Closure," has been certified platinum. Their third album "This Type of Thinking Could do us in," led by the singles "Vitamin R" and "The Clincher," has been certified gold.
6. Gwen and Eric Stefani

Answer: No Doubt

This brother and sister were two of the founding members of the 1990's alternative rock band "No Doubt." Eric left the band in 1994. Too bad for Eric, he had no idea what he would miss out on. The next year, No Doubt released the album "Tragic Kingdom," which has been certified diamond thanks in large part to the mega-hit single "Don't Speak." Eric is on that album, but by leaving the band, he missed out on all the money that No Doubt made on the tour for the album.
7. The Deal sisters

Answer: The Breeders

While she was still in the Pixies, Kim Deal formed a new band with her sister Kelley in 1989, originally as a side project. This soon turned into a full-time project as Kim left the Pixies shortly thereafter and the Pixies broke up shortly after that.

Their 1993 album "Last Splash" has been certified platinum, thanks mostly to the hit song "Cannonball" which charted in the top ten in France, in the top 40 in the UK and the Netherlands, and the top 50 in the U.S.
8. The Berggren brothers and sister

Answer: Ace of Base

Jonas, Linn, and Jenny Berggren formed the 90's pop band, "Ace of Base." They have sold over 30 million albums worldwide, at the time making them the 3rd-highest selling band from Sweden after ABBA and Roxette. Their album "The Sign" has sold over 23 million copies worldwide thanks in large part to its title song and "All That She Wants," both of which charted at number one in at least ten different countries.
9. The Hawkins brothers

Answer: The Darkness

Dan and Justin Hawkins formed the Darkness, a 21st century glam rock band. Their debut album "Permission to Land" charted at number one on the U.K. chart and it also charted in at least ten different countries. The album won three Brit awards, and had the song "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," which rose to number two on the UK chart and charted in at least ten different countries.
10. The Mothersbaugh Brothers and the Casale brothers

Answer: Devo

This band had two sets of brothers. Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh and Gerald and Bob Casale, formed the new wave band Devo. The name Devo is short for "devolution" and is based on the theory that humans have not evolved, they have done the opposite over time. They are most famous for their 1980 hit "Whip it," which charted in the top 20 in four different countries.
