Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Hollies "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" features which superstar on piano?

Answer: Elton John

The song's title came from a column written by magazine editor Roe Fulkerson who had spotted a small boy struggling to carry a baby and commented to the boy about his heavy load. "He ain't heavy, he's my brother", the boy replied. The phrase exists from earlier times (Notably from Father Flanagan of Boys Town) but this is the first instance where the exact wording was used in the title.
2. Who gave his seat to J.P "the Big Bopper" Richardson on the ill-fated plane crash that took the lives of Richardson, Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly?

Answer: Waylon Jennings

According to Wikipedia, after Jennings gave his seat to the Big Bopper, Buddy Holly joked "well I hope your old bus freezes" to which Jennings snapped back "well I hope your plane crashes".

Be careful what you wish for...
3. The Rolling Stones' 1971 record "Sticky Fingers" had a working what on the album cover?

Answer: zipper

Conceived and photographed by Andy Warhol, the cover was a close up photo of a pair of blue jeans with a working zipper.
4. Andy Warhol became which band's manager and also designed the cover for one of their albums?

Answer: The Velvet Underground

Released in 1967, "The Velvet Underground and Nico", one of the most pivotal albums of rock and roll, features a banana with a removable banana skin sticker on it inviting the consumer to "peel slowly and see"
5. Abbie Hoffman charged onto the stage of this band's concert to make an impromptu protest speech only to be driven off by the butt end of the lead guitarist's guitar. Which band was playing during this memorable event?

Answer: The Who

After Hoffman rushed the stage to protest the imprisonment of John Sinclair, Pete Townshend sent him sailing off the stage with a whack from his guitar. Now, that is something I wish I could have seen.
6. The Allman Brother's song "Melissa" was released on the first album after Duane Allman's death. Which album did it appear on?

Answer: Eat a Peach

Hands down my favorite song of all time, "Melissa" was the first song written and recorded after Duane died in a motorcycle accident. Gorgeous, but very haunting when listening to the despair and heartache shining through the lyrics and the sadness in Gregg Allman's voice.
7. Every rock fan knows that Bon Scott was the lead singer of AC/DC until his death in 1980 and was replaced by Brian Johnson. However, not many know that there was in fact another lead singer for AC/DC. What was his name?

Answer: Dave Evans

AC/DC didn't release their first album until after Bon Scott replaced Dave Evans in 1974. Ian Gillan was the lead singer of Deep Purple; Brad Delp was the lead singer of Boston and Bob Welch was a guitarist for Fleetwood Mac.
8. Which legendary blues guitarist is said to have sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads in exchange for his guitar skills?

Answer: Robert Johnson

Ironically, he died in 1938 at a crossroads in Mississippi from strychnine poisoning.
9. Which one of these rock superstars was not a member of the Travelling Wilburys?

Answer: Ray Davies

Bob Dylan and Tom Petty completed the line up for one of Rock's most powerful supergroups.
10. Who penned the Mott the Hoople classic "All the Young Dudes"?

Answer: David Bowie

David Bowie offered "Suffragette City" to the band but they declined and chose to record "All the Young Dudes" instead, which became the title track for their 1972 album. David Bowie also produced the album and assisted with back up vocals and saxophone.
