Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "One Moment in Time"

Answer: Whitney Houston

"Each day I live, I want to be..." tears me up when I hear this song from the 1988 Olympics. The song was released in August of 1988 and was over four minutes long. Albert Hammond and John Bettis wrote the song. I was surprised to hear that he envisioned Elvis Presley singing the song.
2. "One Way or Another"

Answer: Blondie

Deborah Harry sang the words, "I'm gonna get ya, get ya, get ya..." in 1978. The song was actually thought of by Deborah herself. She had an ex boyfriend who so-called, "stalked her' and inspired her to create this song. It's almost comical because the B side of the record was "Just Go Away". Which could be another stalker song in the making! I'm just curious if you thought of lyrics for a song you created regarding your ex.
3. "One Bad Apple"

Answer: The Osmonds

Donny and his brothers sang, "... don't spoil the whole bunch, girl..." in this fruity song. The Osmond brothers were in the same era as the Jackson Five. Both groups were pinned on my walls. As a teenage girl I was a groupie of these two groups!

The song was written by George Jackson, who actually thought of the Jackson Five when he wrote it. The song went to number one on the charts for five weeks with Donny singing the lead.
4. "One Of Us"

Answer: ABBA

"One of Us" was actually first titled "Number One" and is sung by Agnetha. The 1981 music video was a unique video where Anna, as she's known as, is moving into a new house. It was unique because the divorce from Bjorn was just finalized a year before the record came out.

The song was rereleased for the movie, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" and was sung by Sophie in the movie.

"... one of us is crying, one of us is lying in her lonely bed..."
5. "One More Night"

Answer: Phil Collins

"Against All Odds" was the first solo hit in the United States for Phil, while "One More Night" became his second successful number one song. The song was performed in the movie, "The Color of Money" with Tom Cruise and Paul Newman. Hustling in pool halls and listening to the words, "and if I stumble, if I fall, just help me back..."
6. "Still the One"

Answer: Orleans

This song never made the number one spot on the charts, it topped at number five in 1976. Supposedly the music was written as fast as 15 minutes. Sometimes you just know the perfect pitch and it works. This time it did! The group, Orleans, put together in New Jersey in 1972. John Hall was pretty much the head of the group and put the band together. John left the group in 1977.

"You're still the one that makes me laugh..." This song always makes me feel good, no matter what. The song was featured as a jingle for ABC television. I have to admit, ABC is still the one.
7. "You're the One that I Want"

Answer: Olivia Newton John & John Travolta

"I got chills, they're multiplying..." when I hear this song I do get chills. Danny and Sandy were the perfect different couple in the movie, "Grease" and when they sang this song at the carnival, I just get all gooey. They each decided to reverse their roles to win each other's heart.

The song was written by John Farra in 1977. Not surprising that the song went to number one in both Australia and the United States with Olivia and John singing it. Farra also wrote the song, "Hopelessly Devoted To You" for Olivia to sing in the movie.

As a side note, when the movie came out and they had the big showing, they had two bathroom doors set up. Olivia Newton's JOHN and Travolta's JOHN.
8. "One"

Answer: Three Dog Night

The song, "One" starts off with '...one is the loneliest number...' and yes it is. Having dinner with just one or sleeping single in a double bed. Oh wait, that's another song. "One" was written by Harry Nilsson and was released in 1968. Three Dog Night released it on the album, "Three Dog Night", as well as a single. Surprised that it never hit number one on the charts.

Three Dog Night was also known as a band called Redwood in 1967 but made their debut at a press party in 1968. The rest is history and they went from three to one, or should I say one made by three?
9. "One in a Million You"

Answer: Larry Graham

The song was written by Sam Dees and performed by Larry, who sang the beautiful and soothing 80s song, "One in a Million You" and hit gold! The song hit the number one spot for Rhythm and Blues in 1980.

Larry was born in 1946 in Beaumont, Texas. His style of music is defined as R & B, funk and soul music. He had about ten single hits, with "One in a Million" being his most popular one. He performed with both Sly and the Family Stone and later with Graham Central Station.

...'a one in a million, chance of a lifetime...'
10. "One Toke Over the Line"

Answer: Brewer and Shipley

Listening to this sweet melody written and sung by Mike Brewer and Tom Shipley. This song had a few hidden meanings behind it. It was actually thought of while they were supposedly high on marijuana. I find it comical that it peaked at number ten in the United States but soared to number five in Canada. They had a lot of issues with the song. For one, the Vice President of the United States was not happy with the 'drug references'. Another group of Christians did not like the use of "sweet Jesus" mentioned in the song. These two references probably brought it more publicity that actually helped the song.

"One toke over the line, sweet Jesus..."
