Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I was the Walrus, but now I'm ______" Which name fills the blank?

Answer: John

"I was the Dreamweaver, but now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus, but now I'm John
And so dear friends
You'll just have to carry on
The dream is over"

Incredibly poignant lyrics from "God" from Lennon's "Plastic Ono Band" recording of 1970.

"I don't believe in Beatles,
I just believe in me
Yoko and me
And that's reality"
2. Which of the ex-Beatles had a hit with this song, in 1973? "Please take hold of my hand, that I might understand you"

Answer: George

"Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)". I really wanted to use "My Sweet Lord" for this question, but there aren't enough words to that song - any lyrics used would have given it away!

George Harrison was never shy about revealing his spirituality in his songs, and this one is no exception:

"Keep me free from birth
Give me hope
Help me cope, with this heavy load
Trying to, touch and reach you with,
heart and soul"
3. "A lady that I know just came from Colombia She smiled because I did not understand Then she held out some marijuana, oh ho She said it was the best in all the land" Who sang these very '70's lyrics for us, in 1974?

Answer: Ringo

"The No-No Song", from the album "Goodnight Vienna".

The song was written by Hoyt Axton, who, along with having a respectable folk/country career himself, wrote many songs that became big hits for others, such as "Joy to the World (Jeremiah was a Bullfrog)" and "The Pusher".
4. The name of which Beatle wife/girlfriend fills the blank in this song? "La la la la la lovely ________ With the lovely flowers in her hair"

Answer: Linda

This song was of course written for Linda McCartney, from the album "McCartney" (1970). Ringo did not even meet Barbara Bach until 1980, and George and Pattie's marriage was pretty much over by 1970. And, although John Lennon wrote many songs for Yoko Ono, this one just isn't their style, somehow...
5. "When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years, Then they expect you to pick a career" Another 1970 song - who gave us this one?

Answer: John

"Working Class Hero" from "Plastic Ono Band", Lennon's first "official" post-Beatles LP, though he had in fact made several other recordings before this one.

I still remember the first time I heard this - we'd come a long way from "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".
6. "There's no one left at home And I believe I'm gonna rain" Which ex-Beatle sang these whimsical lines?

Answer: Paul

From "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" - typical McCartney silliness, lots of fun but not too much substance here. The time and key changes in the song are similar to those of a later, better (in my opinion) song - "Band on the Run".
7. Which Beatle had a hit, and started a trend, with this song? "My friend came to me, with sadness in his eyes He told me that he wanted help Before his country dies"

Answer: George

George Harrison's "Concert for Bangladesh" was the first big rock concert for charity, on August 1, 1971. We may never have had "Live Aid" if George hadn't thought of it first.
8. Which ex-Beatle wrote the theme song for a James Bond movie?

Answer: Paul

"Live and Let Die" from 1973.

"When you were young and your heart was an open book
You used to say live and let live
(you know you did, you know you did you know you did)
But in this ever changing world in which we're living
Makes you give in and cry
Say live and let die"
9. "Don't need a gun to blow your mind oh no, oh no" Who sang these lines for us?

Answer: John

"Whatever Gets You Through the Night" from 1974's "Walls and Bridges". Elton John played piano on this one, and sang backup.
10. "Remember peace is how we make it, Here within your reach If you're big enough to take it" Which ex-Beatle sang this song?

Answer: Ringo

"It Don't Come Easy". Reports vary as to how much of this song was written by Ringo, and how much by George Harrison, but Ringo had a hit with it, in 1971. You can see him playing it, in the recording of the "Concert for Bangladesh".
