2. Who scored a country hit with a cover of Bette Midler's "The Rose"?

Answer: Conway Twitty

Conway's heartfelt rendition of "The Rose" begins with a recitation of the first two lines of the song, a departure from Bette's original version which was the theme song of her movie of the same name. The song was written by Amanda McBroom. It was Conway's 30th number one country single.
3. Hank Williams, Jr. was just one rose short of a dozen in one of his early hits. What was its title?

"Eleven Roses" was co-written by Lamar Morris and Darrell McCallm. It was Hank Williams, Jr.'s first number one country record.
4. What country artist scored a hit in 1972 with "When The Snow Is On The Roses"?

Answer: Sonny James

Sonny James' version of "When The Snow Is On The Roses" peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart on September 16, 1972. It knocked Jerry Wallace's hit "If You Leave Me Tonight I'll Cry" out of the top spot. A week later, Conway Twitty's version of "I Can't Stop Loving You" replaced Sonny's hit at number one.
5. C.W. McCall was best known for his song "Convoy". But he also had a country hit about roses. What was it called?

Answer: Roses For Mama

"Roses For Mama" peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1977. It was also recorded by Red Sovine, but McCall's version was the more successful one. "Mama Liked The Roses" was an Elvis song. "Eighteen Yellow Roses" was a hit for Bobby Darin. "Red Roses for A Blue Lady" was a pop song recorded by several artists.
6. "Room Full of Roses" had been a hit for the Sons of The Pioneers and for George Morgan in 1949. But who took it all the way to number one in the 70s?

Answer: Mickey Gilley

"Room Full of Roses" was written by Tim Spencer. The song was originally intended to be the "B side" of Gilley's version of another classic: "She Called Me Baby". He recorded it on his own label Astro Records and gave it limited distribution, primarily in the Houston area where his nightclub was located.

But when he signed with Playboy Records they released the recording with "Room Full of Roses" as the "A side" and it went on to become Mickey's first number one country hit.
7. Lynn Anderson scored the biggest hit of her career in 1970 with this "Rose" song. What was its full title?

Answer: (I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden

Singer-songwriter Joe South wrote this monster hit for Lynn Anderson. Her recording not only topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart for five weeks in 1970, but it also reached number three on the Hot 100 pop charts and was a number one hit in several countries around the world.
8. Who scored a Top 40 country hit in 1974 with "Red Rose From The Blue Side of Town"?

Answer: George Morgan

"Red Rose From The Blue Side of Town" peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. It would be George Morgan's last Top 40 country hit as he passed away the following year. But his daughter Lorrie began a very successful run of country hits in the late 80s that has continued through the 90s and beyond.
9. Marie Osmond scored her first country hit with a cover of an Anita Bryant song. What was it?

Answer: Paper Roses

Marie Osmond's obvious love of country music would lead to a successful run of country hits. "Paper Roses" went all the way to number one on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in November, 1973. She followed it with another Anita Bryant cover: "My Little Corner of The World" but it didn't chart nearly as well. "The Violet and The Rose" and "Neon Rose" were both country hits for Mel Tillis while "Buy Me A Rose" was a hit for Kenny Rogers.
10. Who had a top ten country hit with "Send Me No Roses" in 1973?

Answer: Tommy Overstreet

"Send Me No Roses" was one of several Top Ten country hits Tommy Overstreet had in the 70s. It peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1973. Sadly, Tommy (known as T.O to his fans and friends in the industry) passed away in 2015 after a long illness.
