Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Band Aid - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (1984)

Answer: Famine in Ethiopia

Although not the first purpose-made charity single (this honour goes to George Harrison's 1971 single "Bangladesh", which was released to raise funds following the 1970 Bhola cyclone and the Bangladesh Liberation War), Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" certainly started the charity single revolution, which has sustained to this day.

Recorded in just one day by a supergroup of mainly British and Irish pop stars gathered together by Bob Geldof of the Boomtown Rats and Midge Ure of Ultravox, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was the UK number one single for five weeks, and claimed Christmas number one in 1984.

The single raised £8 million for the victims of famine in Ethiopia within twelve months of release.
2. Tears For Fears - "Everybody Wants to Run the World" (1986)

Answer: Sport Aid (African famine relief)
