Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To cap off their wild night in Tokyo, the gifted Bill Murray, as Bob Harris, takes a shot and then performs a karaoke version of this song in "Lost in Translation". What's the second song he sings during their karaoke fun?

Answer: More Than This

This 2003 movie by Sofia Coppola is a masterpiece. Set in Tokyo and revolving around two Americans who find each other and form a deep bond, it's a visually stunning movie all about isolation, loneliness and connection. In the Karaoke scene, the protagonists Bob and Charlotte (played by Scarlett Johansson) have had an exciting night out in Tokyo and are at a friend's apartment. Bob first sings "What's So Funny Bout Peace, Love and Understanding", an Elvis Costello song and Charlotte sings "Brass in Pocket", a Pretenders song. Bob then sings "More Than This", a song by Roxy Music, as Charlotte looks on.
2. The scene in "Wayne's World" where the gang sings along to "Bohemian Rhapsody" can only be described as excellent! How do they listen to the song?

Answer: Cassette tape

Wayne Campbell pops in a cassette tape playing "Bohemian Rhapsody" and he and his best friend Garth and their friends sing and head bang along in this well-known scene. "Wayne's World" is based on a "Saturday Night Live" skit of the same name, about Wayne and Garth who host a cable network TV show.

The movie was released in 1992 and contributed to a resurgence of popularity for the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992. When the song was originally released by Queen in 1975, it only reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100.
3. Quentin Tarantino has a knack for using music in interesting ways in his movies. In "Reservoir Dogs", who plays the psychotic Mr. Blonde who dances along to "Stuck in the Middle With You" while wielding a razor and torturing a police officer?

Answer: Michael Madsen

Due to their use in such memorable scenes, some songs become inextricably linked to movies and this is one of those such pairings. Michael Madsen brilliantly plays Mr. Blonde who, in this scene in "Reservoir Dogs" questions a police officer about what he knows about a bank heist gone wrong and a possible informant.

The police officer claims that he is relatively new and knows nothing and Mr. Blonde proceeds to tell him that he doesn't really care, he just likes to torture people. While dancing to "Stuck in the Middle With You" he severs the officer's ear with a straight razor and plans on setting him on fire.

This scene is brilliant, demented and terrifying.
4. What's the name of the lovesick character who holds up a boombox and plays "In Your Eyes" in "Say Anything"?

Answer: Lloyd Dobler

The scene where Lloyd Dobler stands outside the bedroom window of his ex-girlfriend, holding a boombox and playing "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel, has become synonymous with the movie "Say Anything" and a still of the scene was used on the movie poster and DVD.

In this movie, Diane is a driven young woman with a close relationship with her father who meets Lloyd and falls in love with him. When things get too complicated, she breaks up with him and it is during their break-up that Lloyd shows up outside her house playing the song.

The scene is so iconic it's been parodied many times, including in "South Park", "A Night at the Roxbury", and "Deadpool 2."
5. At the end of "Little Miss Sunshine" the Hoover family come together in a hilarious and heartwarming scene at a children's pageant. Which family member is NOT on stage with Olive while she performs her dance to "Super Freak"?

Answer: Grandpa

A dysfunctional family with some serious problems takes a road trip to get young Olive Hoover (played by Abigail Breslin) to a beauty pageant for children. Olive is unlike the other contestants and practices a dance routine for the pageant with her grandpa (played by Alan Arkin), who is a drug addict. On the way to the pageant, he dies of a drug overdose and so Olive dedicates her performance to him.

It is a striptease and the pageant organizers are mortified, trying to get her off the stage. Her mom (played by Toni Colette), dad (played by Greg Kinnear), uncle (played by Steve Carell) and brother (played by Paul Dano) all join her up on stage in a great cinematic moment, while Olive, who is oblivious to why her dance routine might be offensive, is thrilled to have her family with her.
6. Ever wish you heard a song before it's linked forever to a movie serial killer? "Goodbye Horses" is used brilliantly and creepily in "Silence of the Lambs" when which serial killer dances to it?

Answer: Buffalo Bill

"Silence of the Lambs" is about an FBI trainee who is tasked with questioning a former serial killer named Hannibal Lecter; however she is being set up to try to get information from Lecter to help capture a current serial killer named Buffalo Bill who is on the loose. Buffalo Bill kills women in order to make himself a skin suit and in a very chilling scene, we see a captured young woman in a pit in his house while he listens to "Goodbye Horses", a song by Q Lazzarus, and dances around with nothing but a robe, some jewelry and makeup on.

This scene was parodied in "Clerks II" by Jay and Silent Bob and the song has been covered by Airborne Toxic Event during live shows.
7. In "Pretty In Pink" what song does Duckie lip sync to in the record store while Andie is waiting for Blane?

Answer: Try a Little Tenderness

I will never understand why Andie picked Blane over Duckie. In the 1980s John Hughes movie "Pretty In Pink" Andie has a crush on Blane and Duckie has a crush on Andie. Duckie is awkward, geeky and poor just like Andie and Blane is rich and popular. In this scene, Andie is waiting to go on a date with Blane at the record store where she works and Duckie has come by (as he always does to see her) and hears the song "Try a Little Tenderness" by Otis Redding.

He lip syncs to it and dances around the store, mentioning after how he enjoys the tune as his mother used to play it.
8. Where does the violent and chaotic massacre take place in "Kingsmen: The Secret Service" while "Free Bird" by Lynyrd Skynyrd is playing?

Answer: Church

"Kingsmen: The Secret Service" is a violent and stylistic movie about a young troublemaker who joins a secret spy agency. The agency is going up against an evil supervillain, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who has designed a SIM card for phones that makes people act savagely and try to destroy each other.

In the infamous church scene, the villain is testing out the card to great success as all the churchgoers turn on each other in a rage, using whatever they can get their hands on to kill each other.

In this brutal but awesomely choreographed, wild scene, "Free Bird" is playing in the background.
9. It might take maximum effort to recall what it said on the drawing that Deadpool was making while he sang along to "Shoop". Can you remember what was written on it?

Answer: Hi, I'm Francis!

"Deadpool" is about a man whose life has been ruined after being diagnosed with cancer and being subjected to horrible experiments that left him terribly scarred but with superpowers. It's a hilarious revenge movie and in the scene with this song being played, the character Deadpool is sitting on top of a bridge with a crayon drawing he's made showing him shooting the man responsible for his misery in the head.

In the drawing, the man, named Francis is saying "Hi, I'm Francis!" and we catch a glimpse of it before Deadpool turns to the camera and starts talking to the audience about how he got his own movie and what he's about to do. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is hilarious, swinging his legs and singing along to "Shoop" by Salt-N-Pepa.
10. The title of this quiz and the song "(I've Had)The Time of My Life" is from which movie where "nobody puts Baby in the corner?"

Answer: Dirty Dancing

This is the story of young and idealistic Frances "Baby" Houseman who meets dance instructor Johnny Castle while on a family vacation in the Catskills. This movie has a great soundtrack, including lots of oldies such as "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes, "These Arms of Mine" by Otis Redding and "Wipeout" by The Surfaris. Newer songs were recorded for the soundtrack including "She's Like the Wind" by Patrick Swayze, who plays Johnny Castle and "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.

At the end of the movie, Baby and Johnny perform a dance together to the song.
