Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We're in Alexandria, Egypt, in search of an elusive burial site of a great leader and warrior. Which of the following individuals had a tombstone that said: 'A tomb now suffices for him For whom the world was not enough'?

Answer: Alexander the Great

Sadly, Alexander the Great died at the young age of 32. Ptolemy had him buried or reburied in Alexandria, but like a lot of "Great" men, his burial site seems to have faded into oblivion, so if you are going to Egypt to see his grave, well, don't.
2. We arrive at Los Angeles International Airport, and from there we drive across the desert for several hours until we reach Fort Sumner, where we are looking for a legendary bad boy. Which Old West figure has an epitaph that reads: 'Truth and History. 21 Men. The Boy Bandit King - He died as he lived.'?

Answer: Billy the Kid

Billy the Kid's "grave" is shared with two other men and surrounded by a cage at Ft. Sumner, New Mexico. Actually, some people speculate that this tombstone sits atop no grave at all, because not only has the stone been stolen several times (thus, the need for a cage), but also because a flood had once displaced this particular headstone.

Then, of course, there are those that don't think that Billy the Kid died until the 1950s, but that's another Fun Trivia quiz for another time.
3. We take the train to Illinois to visit the gravesite of one of the most infamous men of the 20th century. Which notorious gangster's epitaph says: 'My Jesus Mercy'?

Answer: Al Capone

After previously being buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Chicago, his remains were relocated in 1950 to Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
4. It's an hour's drive from Midlothian, Illinois to the O'Hare airport. We are taking the next flight to Poland so that we can visit the man who is entombed in St. John's Cathedral in the town of Frombork. Can you name the scientist whose grave inscription says: 'Stand, Sun, move not'?

Answer: Copernicus

Copernicus was the first person to introduce the "Heliocentric Theory", which might explain this particular epitaph. For those of you who are scientifically deprived, the Heliocentric Theory said that the planets revolved around the Sun, and not the Earth.
5. We take the red eye from Warsaw to San Francisco, and then make the drive south to Colma, California to visit the burial site of an Old West hero and his wife. Which famous lawman's epitaph reads: '...that nothing's so sacred as honor and nothing's so loyal as love.'?

Answer: Wyatt Earp

Wyatt Earp, another legendary Old West figure, was immortalized in many Hollywood films, including one called, "Tombstone". Rather ironic, huh? Earp is buried in the Jewish section of the Hills of Eternity Memorial Park in Colma, California.
6. We decide to go on horseback (well, I'm going on horseback...you can have the stinky old burro) for a LONG ride out to South Dakota so that we can experience what the life of a famous outlaw might be like. Who is buried below the tombstone that reads: 'Pard, we will meet again in the Happy Hunting Ground To part no more, Goodbye.'?

Answer: Wild Bill Hickok

Another Old West guy? Yep, I never grow tired of them. Anyway, the first part of this epitaph reads: 'Killed by the assassin Jack M'Call in Deadwood, Black Hills Aug. 2d 1876.'
7. We travel from South Dakota to Maryland by helicopter to "meet" a legendary author. Whose epitaph reads: 'Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."'?

Answer: Edgar Allan Poe

This dark author now rests in Old Westminster Burial Ground in Baltimore, Maryland.
8. We rent a snazzy sportscar for the drive north from Baltimore to Old Bennington Cemetery in Vermont to see the burial site of a world famous New Englander and his wife. Which writer's epitaph reads: 'I had A Lover's Quarrel With The World'?

Answer: Robert Frost

Robert Frost suffered a heart attack while recovering from prostate surgery. He survived the heart attack, but a series of embolisms killed him. A sad end for a great writer...
9. From Boston we hop on a ship for a transatlantic voyage to Great Britain. Once there, we head on over to Oxford to visit the gravesite of a world famous academian and author. Whose epitaph reads: 'Man must endure his going hence.'?

Answer: C.S. Lewis

Clive Staples Lewis, author of the "Chronicles of Narnia", is buried at Headington Quarry Churchyard in Oxford, England. Incidentally, J.R.R. Tolkien and his wife Edith are also listed as "Luthien and Beren" on their tombstone.
10. 'Here lies the worst king and the most miserable man in the kingdom.' Whose epitaph might this be?

Answer: Robert III, King of Scotland

Poor guy. Disabled by a kick from a horse, he forced other people to do his dirty work, and the people around him seemed to die very mysteriously, but that doesn't make him worthy of such a mean statement.
