Answer: Wren

He was Sir Christopher Wren (1632 - 1723).

After much of London was destroyed by the Great Fire in 1666, Charles II appointed Wren to take charge of the rebuilding of the city. The rebuilding of St. Paul's took 35 years to complete.

She was Florence Nightingale (1820 - 1910).

Florence was born in Florence, Italy and named after the city. By the time she was 25 she had turned down several offers of marriage because she wanted to be a nurse. Her parents opposed the idea because nursing was considered to be a profession for working class women and it wasn't until 1851 that her father gave his permission for her to train as a nurse.

Scott (1868 - 1912) had led an expedition to be the first to reach the South Pole. When he arrived at his destination he discovered that he had been beaten by the Norwegians. Disheartened, he and his men died on their way back. His last diary entry was on March 29, 1912 and he said "It seems a pity, but I do not think that I can write more. R. Scott. For God's sake look after our people".

Despite thinking he could write no more it seems he was able to complete twelve legible letters before his death.
