Dr. Henry Heimlich (1920-2016) was an American thoracic surgeon. His claim to fame is his discovery of using the pressure of abdominal thrusts to dislodge an obstruction from the trachea. This method is known as the Heimlich maneuver.

Stephen "Ragamuffin" Marley is the son of Jamaican, Reggae musician Bob Marley. Born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1972, Stephen continues to carry on his father's legacy. His songs include "Hey Baby" (2005) and "Medication" (2017).
2. Erin Brockovich and Barry Sanders

Erin Brockovich is an environmental activist born in Lawrence, Kansas in 1960. She helped build a successful case against PG&E of California in 1993. Her actions became the subject of the eponymous 2000 film starring Julia Roberts.

Barry Sanders was born in Wichita, Kansas in 1968. He was an outstanding running back in the NFL where he played for the Detroit Lions. He was one of football's rushing yards leaders with 15,269 yards gained.

Franklin Pierce (1804-1869) was born in Hillsboro, New Hampshire. He served as the fourteen president of the United States from 1853 to 1857. He was an enemy of the abolitionist movement and enforced The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.

Matthew Shepard (1976-1998) was born in Casper, Wyoming. A gay student at the University of Wyoming, he was beaten, tortured and left to die because of his sexual orientation. He was taken to Fort Collins, CO, where he died from his injuries six days later.

Yet another politician and lawyer, Chester Alan Arthur (1829-1886) was born in Fairfield, Vermont. Arthur served as the 21st president of the United States from 1881 to 1885, taking over after the assassination of James Garfield.

Martial arts master and actor Chuck Norris was born in Ryan, Oklahoma in 1940. Norris served in the Air Force before winning many martial arts championships. He has also appeared in films like "Way of the Dragon" (1972), and on TV in "Walker, Texas Ranger" from 1993 to 2001.

Singer, dancer and bandleader James Brown (1933-2006) was born in Barnwell, South Carolina. Known for hit songs like "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "It's a Man's Man's World", his performances were electrifying, earning him the nickname "The Godfather of Soul".

Tennis player and professional golfer Althea Gibson (1927-2003) was born in Clarendon County, South Carolina. In 1956 she won the French Open Grand Slam title, becoming the first Black athlete to achieve this feat.
