Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Swallowed up by the earth

Answer: Korah

Korah along with other men rose up against Moses and murmured against him. God instructed Moses and Aaron to leave from among the congregation so that He could destroy the people in a moment. Moses and Aaron pleaded for the congregation. God instructed Moses to tell the congregation to leave from the area where Korah and his companions were.

The earth then opened and swallowed up Korah and his allies. (Numbers 16)
2. Devoured by fire from the Lord

Answer: Nadab

Nadab and Abihu were sons of Aaron. They burned strange fire before the Lord. As a result of their actions they were consumed by fire that came out from the Lord. (Leviticus 10:1-2)
3. Killed by Jael

Answer: Sisera

Barak was told by Deborah that God wanted him to take men to the river Kishon where Sisera and his army would be delivered into his hand. Barak was afraid and refused to go unless Deborah would go with him. Deborah agreed to go, but told him that the honour of killing Sisera would be given to a woman instead of to him.

Her prophecy was fulfilled as, after fleeing from Barak, Sisera was killed by Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. (Judges 5:1-22)
4. Slain by his brother

Answer: Abel

Cain and Abel were the sons of Adam and Eve. Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain. God accepted Abel's sacrifice but rejected Cain's. Cain became angry and killed Abel. This is the first murder recorded in Scripture. (Genesis 4:1-10)
5. Killed by Joab

Answer: Abner

According to II Samuel 3:27-30 Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner because he had killed their brother in battle. David was not pleased when he received news of the killing. He declared his kingdom as guiltless before God from the blood of Abner.
6. Slain by David

Answer: Goliath

The story of David and Goliath is found in I Samuel 17. Goliath was the champion of the Philistines. He would come out of the Philistine's camp and dare the Israelite army to send out a man to fight him. David offered to fight Goliath. Using a stone from the brook and his sling he felled Goliath. He then used Goliath's own sword to cut off his head.
7. Executed on his own gallows

Answer: Haman

The book of Esther chronicles the deliverance of the Jews from the powerful Haman, who determined to exterminate not only Mordecai but all his people because Mordecai refused to bow to him. Haman prepared a gallows to hang Mordecai on. However, he ended up hanging on it as the Lord interposed to save His people. (Esther 7:1-10)
8. Slain by the Medes

Answer: Belshazzar

Belshazzar was the son of Nebuchadnezzar. He reigned after the death of his father. According to Daniel 5, Belshazzar held a great feast during which golden and silver vessels from the temple were brought in and used for drinking wine. In the midst of the revelry there appeared a handwriting which Daniel interpreted to mean that God would take the kingdom from Belshazzar and give it to another nation. Belshazzar was killed that same night by the Medes and Darius the Mede began his reign. (Daniel 5:30-31)
9. Hewed in pieces before the Lord

Answer: Agag

Saul was sent by God to destroy the Amalekites for their evil deeds. They were to be totally annihilated. However, Saul spared Agag, the Amalekite king as well as the best of the flocks and cattle. Samuel was sent by God to rebuke Saul. He then commanded that Agag be brought to him.

He told him that in the same way he had made many women childless his mother would also be childless. Samuel then cut him up in pieces before the Lord. (I Samuel 15)
10. Committed suicide

Answer: Saul

The Philistines attacked Israel and Saul's army was defeated. Saul was badly injured by the archers so he asked his armour bearer to kill him so that he would not be abused by the Philistines. However, his armour bearer was afraid to kill him, so Saul took a sword and fell on it so that he died. (I Samuel 31:1-6)
