Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Go to Gilead, travel to Jordan and then to Zarephath. Whose footprints are in the sand?

Answer: Elijah

Elijah the prophet appeared dramatically in I Kings 17 when he entered into the presence of King Ahab and informed him that there would be neither rain nor dew for three years but according to his word. The only introduction the reader has of him is that he was a Tishbite of the inhabitants of Gilead. On uttering this ominous message Elijah abruptly departed to the brook Cherith which was before Jordan.

He remained there until the brook dried up and he was sent by God to Zarephath where he was sustained by a widow.

It was in Zarephath that he raised the widow's son to life. (I Kings 17)
2. My footprints can be easily seen in the sands of River Nile, Midian and the Red Sea. Who am I?

Answer: Moses

Moses was born to Jochebed and Amran during the time of Egyptian captivity. At his birth he was placed at the brink of River Nile in a basket. He was found by Pharaoh's daughter who inadvertently gave him to his mother to be cared for. When he was grown he was returned to Pharaoh's daughter.
After killing an Egyptian who was smiting an Hebrew, Moses fled to Midian where he took Zipporah as his wife. At God's bidding Moses returned to Egypt to deliver Israel from Egyptian captivity. Exodus 14:21-31 records Moses' parting of the Red Sea and the ultimate destruction of the Egyptian army.
3. Canaan, an Egyptian prison and Pharaoh's palace are places you might want to look to find this character. Who is he?

Answer: Joseph

Joseph lived in Canaan with his father Jacob and the rest of his family. After sharing his dreams with his brothers they conspired to kill him. Eventually they sold him to some Midianite merchants who brought him to Egypt. God caused all that he did to prosper and soon he was in charge of Potiphar's house.

However, Potiphar's wife caused him to be cast into prison when she accused him of coming in to her. Even in prison God caused Joseph to excel. He interpreted dreams for Pharaoh's baker and butler. Later on he was taken from prison to Pharaoh's palace where he interpreted Pharaoh's dream. Pharaoh then made him ruler over all Egypt.

He was second only to Pharaoh. (Gen. 37,39 & 41)
4. Want to find my footprints? Go to Haran, the plain of Jordan and Sodom and you'll surely see my footprints. Who am I?

Answer: Lot

According to Genesis 12:1-5 Abraham and Lot left their home in Haran for the land God had promised Abraham. As they travelled together their herdsmen began have disagreements about the land. Abraham told Lot that in order to prevent strife Lot should separate himself from him and whichever way Lot went he would go in the opposite direction. Lot looked and saw that the plain of Jordan was well watered everywhere so he chose the plain of Jordan. (Genesis 13:1-10. Interestingly, Genesis 19:12-17 records that Lot and his wife and two daughters had to be physically taken out of Sodom by the angels who came to destroy it as they were evidently living there by that time and Lot lingered.
5. I left my footprints in Bethel, Jericho and Jordan as I followed my mentor until we were finally separated. Who was this faithful patriarch that got a double portion of his master's spirit?

Answer: Elisha

Elijah knew that the time had come for him to be taken by God. II Kings 2:1-15 records his final journey. At Gilgal Elijah told Elisha to stay there as he had to go to Bethel. Knowing that Elijah was about to be taken Elisha would not leave so he went along with him to Bethel.
Elijah then left for Jericho and again Elisha went with him. When Elijah told him that the Lord had sent him to Jordan Elisha still refused to leave him. In verse 12 Elisha had the privilege of seeing Elijah ascend by a whirlwind into heaven. He was granted his request to have a double portion of Elijah's spirit.
6. Jerusalem, Gaza and Azotus are places where the footsteps of a biblical evangelist trod. Who is he?

Answer: Philip

According to Acts 8:26-40 Philip was in Jerusalem when an angel of the Lord came to him and sent him from Jerusalem to Gaza which was a desert. He obeyed and consequently met the Ethiopian eunuch who he ministered to. The eunuch requested baptism after learning about Jesus.

After the eunuch was baptized Philip was found in Azotus and preached in all the cities until he arrived at Caesarea.
7. Damascus, a street called Straight and Jerusalem are places where this noted apostle left his footsteps in the early days of his spiritual journey. Whose footprints can you trace in these places?

Answer: Saul

After the death of Stephen, Saul of Tarsus who had consented to his death was on his way to Damascus to persecute Christians. According to Acts 9:1-26 as he came near to Damascus a bright light shone around him from heaven and Jesus spoke to him. For three days Saul was unable to see.

He did not eat or drink but he prayed. A certain disciple named Ananias was given a vision to go into the street called Straight where Saul was praying and put his hands on him so that he would be able to see again.

As soon as Ananias obeyed Saul's sight returned and he was baptized. Soon Paul's life was threatened so he was placed in a basket and let down by night over the wall. However when he came to Jerusalem and tried to join the disciples they were afraid of him, not believing that he was really a disciple.
8. I ministered in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra so you can search for my footprints in those places. Oh! I must tell you I was not alone - a famed apostle was with me.

Answer: Barnabas

Along with Paul, Barnabas ministered in Antioch. Acts 13 records Paul's sermon in Antioch. According to verse 46 Paul and Barnabas waxed bold and told the Jews that it was necessary for the word of God to be spoken to them first but since they had rejected it they would turn to the Gentiles.
They then preached in Iconium where both Jews and Gentiles believed. When unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and plotted to stone Paul and Barnabas they departed to Lystra where Paul healed an impotent man. Acts 14:1-10.
9. My footprints are all over Macedonia, Thessalonica and Berea. Just come over into Macedonia and help us...Oops! I mean find me. Which apostle will you find?

Answer: Paul

After his conversion Saul's name was changed to Paul. Paul went to many places preaching the gospel of Jesus. While he was in Troas he had a night vision in which he saw a man of Macedonia asking him to come over into Macedonia and help them. Realizing that God was calling him to preach the gospel there he left Troas the next day to go there.

At a city in Macedonia called Philippi the conversion of Lydia took place.(Acts 16:8-15) Paul preached in Thessalonica where unbelieving Jews set the city in an uproar. Paul then went into Berea preaching the Scriptures but the Jews of Thessalonica came and stirred up the people and Paul was sent away by the brethren while Silas and Timothy remained. (Acts 17:1-14)
10. Nazareth, Jordan and Golgotha are places where you will surely find my footprints. Don't disappoint me, just find them. Whose footprints will you find in these places?

Answer: Jesus

According to Matthew 2:19-23 the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to take Mary and Jesus back to Israel because Herod was dead. However, Joseph was afraid to go into Judea where Herod's son was ruling so he took them to live in Nazareth. Matthew 3 records Jesus' baptism which took place at the Jordan.

As the end of Jesus' life approached He was taken to Golgotha which is interpreted 'a place of a skull'. According to Scriptures He died on a cross for lost humanity.
