1. Which South Carolina catcher hit the eventual game-winning double that scored Brian Buscher from first base, to beat LSU during the eighth inning in first elimination game during the 2003 College World Series?

Answer: Landon Powell

Landon Powell hit a ringing shot to left-center field off of LSU's Billy Sadler who had just come in to relieve Jason Determann. The Gamecocks scored three runs in their half of the eighth inning, and then shut down LSU in the ninth to complete their comeback and eliminate the Tigers.
2. How many total games did the Stanford Cardinal play (including the Championship series) in Omaha?

Answer: 8

The Cardinal had a tough bracket, but in the end came out victorious. They beat South Carolina, lost to Cal State Fullerton, beat South Carolina to eliminate the Gamecocks. Then beat Cal State Fullerton twice to eliminate the Titans, and advance into the first Championship Series, in which they played three games.
3. Which was the average height of the three starting pitchers for the Rice Owls?

Answer: 6-6

Philip Humber was 6-4, Wade Townsend was 6-4, and Jeff Niemann was 6-9, so the average was a little under 6-6.
4. Which team was the first to be eliminated during the 2003 College World Series?

Answer: LSU

LSU lost to Cal State Fullerton and South Carolina, to be eliminated in two straight games.
5. Which Stanford pitcher went 3-0 during the College World Series?

Answer: John Hudgins

John Hudgins won three games in Omaha, and was named the 2003 College World Series MVP.
6. Which Texas pitcher came in during the ninth inning, only to give up a game-losing single up the middle to Justin Ruchti?

Answer: Huston Street

Huston Street came in to supposedly relieve J. Brent Cox, who had dominated the Rice hitters. Cox had faced 12 batters in 3.2 innings, while giving up 2 hits and striking out 2. Huston Street came in to give up the game winning hit in only 0.1 innings of work.
7. Which record did Sam Fuld break against Rice during the 2003 College World Series?

Answer: series career hits

Fuld hit his 24th record hit off of Phillip Humber with an RBI single in the eighth inning in Game 3 of the 2003 Championship Series.
8. Rice's National Championship in 2003 was the first National Championship in school history.

Answer: true

It was their first ever school national championship in any sport, since the school was founded in the early 1900s.
9. Which team was making their first ever school College World Series appearance in 2003?

Answer: Southwest Missouri State

Southwest Missouri State came through their Regional in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Super Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Victorious, even though they were the underdogs in both.

Answer: a 3 game championship series

The three game championship series was added and was very useful to Stanford. They lost the first game and would have lost the National Championship right there, but they were given a chance and took full advantage of their opportunity, taking the series to three games.
