Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Q : Niall _____ Republic Of Ireland striker.

Answer: Quinn

Quinn played for Sunderland and Arsenal. He was a tall player and uses his height to great advantage by getting his head on the ball. He scored lots of goals.
2. U : ______ Park was the home of West Ham United until 2016.

Answer: Upton

Upney and Upminster are two suburbs of London which are, in fact, quite close to Upton Park. The official name of the ground was The Boleyn Ground. It was named after the local pub.
3. I : _____ Wright, former Arsenal footballer.

Answer: Ian

He also played for Crystal Palace, West Ham and Celtic amongst others as well as playing for England.
4. Z : ______ Data Systems. They were once sponsors a domestic football trophy?

Answer: Zenith

This competition was only for teams in the top two divisions. I think that the most probable reason for its demise was the reintroduction of English clubs into Europe as this created more fixtures.
5. M : Wolves striker from 2001 to 2006, Kenny ______ ?

Answer: Miller

Wolves most famous and prolific striker was, of course, Steve Bull, who they signed from arch-rivals West Bromwich Albion.
6. A : Ajax play in this city?

Answer: Amsterdam

Ajax are one of the best Dutch club sides, along with Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. Holland has produced some superb footballers such as Johann Cruyff Ruud Gullit and Dennis Bergkamp.
7. S : This team is located in Shropshire.

Answer: Shrewsbury

Shropshire is a very rural county which may go some way to explaining why they do not have many top class football teams. Telford are the second best Shropshire side, and they were in the Football Conference in the 2002-03 season. They were relegated at the end of the 2002-3 season.
8. T : Flamboyant Brazilian goalkeeper of the 1980s and 90s.

Answer: Taffarel

Brazil are much more famous for outfield players rather than goalkeepers. The greats include Pele, Rivelino, Ronaldo and Zico.
9. E : A Merseyside club.

Answer: Everton

Everton are one of the two big Merseyside clubs, the other being Liverpool. Tranmere is also located in this area. Exeter is in Devon. "Emmerdale" is the name of a British soap opera and Eastbury is the name of a school near where I live.
10. R : Scottish team, Raith _____ .

Answer: Rovers

Without doubt the two biggest clubs in Scotland are the two Glasgow clubs, Rangers and Celtic. These teams are huge rivals, partly because of their religious differences, Rangers is Protestant and Celtic is Catholic.
