Van der Poel set the world record of 12:32.95 at the World Single Distance Champions in Heerenveen, Netherlands a year earlier, on February 14, 2021. In winning the gold in the 10,000 meters, he increased his speed by 2.21 full seconds, to 12:30.74. It was Van der Poel's second gold at the Beijing Olympics, after his win in the 5,000 meters on February 6.

Schulting was the defending Olympic champion, having won the 1000 meter race at the 2018 games in a time of 1:29.377. Her win was the first gold for the Netherlands in the sport of short track. She blew that away at the 2022 games, winning in the quarter finals with a world record time of 1:26.514. She won the gold in the 1000 meters with a time of 1:28.391.

Schulting also won the gold in the 3000 meter relay, silver in the 500 meters (in which she set an Olympic record), and bronze in the 1500 meters. Along with her Olympic achievements, Schulting won the Speed Skating world championship in 2019 and 2021.

Sui and Han set their first world record at the 2022 Olympics during the Team Event, scoring 82.83 points in the short program. While Sui and Han won their segment, the rest of the team did not, and China finished fifth in team competition. Two weeks later, Sui and Hong beat their own record, skating an 84.41 in the short program. They also won the Free Skate with 155.47 to win the gold.

Tarasova and Morozov finished second, Mishina and Galliamov third, and Cheng and Yang finished fifth.

It marked the seventh time they had broken the short dance record since 2018.

Papadakis and Cizeron also set the world record for combined score with a 226.98 on the way to the gold medal. They actually hold the record for breaking records, across all disciplines in figure skating. While they compete for France, the pair resides in Montreal, Canada.

Not only did Wust win gold, she did it in spectacular fashion, setting a new Olympic record in the 1500 meters, with a time of 1:53.28. Wust won her first gold at Turin in the 3000 meters. In 2010, she won gold in the 1500 meters. In 2014, it was at the 3000 meters again, and also in Team Pursuit. In 2018 Wust won in the 1500 meters. Wust also has five silver and two bronze medals.

Snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellus was competing in her fifth Olympics. She won silver in Turin 2006, but finished out of the medals in 2010, 2014 and 2018. She finally got her Snowboard Cross gold at the age of 36; she also won the mixed team cross event with Nick Baumgartner.

Uhlaender did compete in her fifth Olympics in 2022, but never won a medal. She came close in Sochi, finishing fourth. But she finished sixth in 2006, 11th in 2010, 13th in 2018 and sixth in 2022.

John Shuster does have two Olympic medals: a bronze from Turin in 2016 and a gold from Pyeongchang in 2018. However, the Americans were not close to the medals in 2010 and 2014, and lost to Great Britain in the semifinals in 2022.

He first competed in the Olympics in 2014, but did not medal. At the 2018 games, Boe won the individual bialthon and helped Norway win the silver in the Relay.

Germany won 12 golds in Beijing, Sweden won 8 and the Netherlands also won 8.
