Answer: 1981, 1984, 1988 and 1989

The victories were 1981 (Super Bowl XVI), 1984 (Super Bowl XIX), 1988 (Super Bowl XXIII) and 1989 (Super Bowl XXIV).
2. Who was the referee in two of those four victories?

Answer: Pat Haggerty

Pat Haggerty (1927-1994) from Denver, Colorado was the referee in Super Bowls XVI and XIX. He had also been the referee in Super Bowl XIII.
Jerry Seeman (1936-2013) from Plainview, Minnesota referred Super Bowl XXIII and later did Super Bowl XXV.
Dick Jorgenson (1934-1990) from Neenah, Wisconsin refereed Super Bowl XXIV. It was the only Super Bowl that he was the referee and he passed away 9 months later on October 10, 1990.
Jerry Markbreit was the referee in four Super Bowls XVII, XXI, XXVI and XXIX.

The Cincinnati Bengals gained 356 yards and the 49ers gained just 275 yards. The Bengals also committed 4 turnovers to the 49ers 1. It was the first time in Super Bowl history that a turnover took place on the opening kick.
It was also the first time since Super Bowl III that both teams were making their first Super Bowl appearance.
The Super Bowl was held at the Pontiac Silver Dome, Pontiac, Michigan and it was also the first time the Super Bowl had been held in a cold-weather city. Fortunately, the domed stadium helped the crowd inside the stadium as it was very cold with snowy conditions outside.
Bart Starr the Quarterback with the Green Bay Packers won the first two MVP in the 1960s.
There were zero rushing touchdowns in XXIII but this had also been achieved in Super Bowls X and XV.
The 49ers were the first team to achieve 6 passing touchdowns but that was against San Diego in Super Bowl XXIX.

Roger Craig rushed for 58 yards and 77 yards as a receiver, totally 135 yards. Wendell Tyler (49ers) also rushed for 65 yards and received 70 yards, also totally 135 yards. Tony Nathan (Dolphins) rushed for 18 yards and received 83 yards totally 101 yards.

This was the first time in a Super Bowl that both quarterbacks threw for over 300 yards (Montana 331 and Marino 318). The 49ers won the Super Bowl 38 vs Miami Dolphins 16.

Jack "Hacksaw" Reynolds played for the University of Tennessee and started out as a fullback and then changed to a line-backer. He was a 1970 NFL draft pick for the Rams but moved to the 49ers in 1981. Jerry Rice wore number 80 while at the 49ers, Roger Craig wore number 33 and Ronnie Lott wore number 42.

He played all his pro football career at the 49ers (1987-1995). Jerry Rice scored the only other touchdown in this game and with 11 passes for a total of 215 yards was named the Super Bowl MVP.

This Super Bowl was played at the Joe Robbie Stadium at Miami Gardens. The five previous Super Bowls played in Miami had been at the Orange Bowl. In fact 5 of the first 13 Super Bowls were played at the Orange Bowl.

In the first 50 Super Bowls (1967-2016) it was the highest points (55) scored by a team and the 45 point winning margin was the highest recorded. Also it was the first time a team had scored 8 touchdowns and the first time a team had scored 2 touchdowns per quarter.

It was a very lopsided game. This was also the first time a team had won consecutive Super Bowl's with a different coach. During the regular season in 1987 the 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 48-0. The winning margin of 23 points was in Super Bowl XXIX against the San Diego Chargers and the 22 point winning margin was against the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX.

Mike Cofer from South Carolina was with the 49ers from 1988-1993 and was the kicker in two Super Bowls XXIII and XXIV. He was an All-Pro selection in 1989. He finished his career with the Indianapolis Colts in 1995.
Ray Wersching was born in Austria but grew up in California. He spent 10 years at the 49ers (1977-1987) and achieved Super Bowl rings for Super Bowls XVI and XIX. He was the twelve player in NFL history to score 1,000 points in a career.
Doug Brien was originally from New Jersey but played college football in California. He spent 12 season with seven teams in the NFL. He was only at the 49ers in 1994-1995 but in that time played in the Super Bowl XXIX success over the San Diego Chargers.
David Trendwell from South Carolina played on the losing Denver Broncos team in Super Bowl XXIV.
Interesting Fact: In Super Bowl XVI the cost of a 30 second commercial on TV was $375,000 but by the time Super Bowl XXIV came around it was $700,000. In 2016 at Super Bowl 50 it had reached $5 million dollars for that same 30 second commercial.
