Answer: 1895

Whilst the club was formed in 1895, they didn't turn professional until 5 years later, in 1900.
2. What was the previous name of the club, before becoming West Ham United?

Answer: Thames Ironworks

It wasn't until the turn of the 20th century, when Thames Ironworks became West Ham United.
3. Where did the club first play their home games?

Answer: Memorial Recreation Ground

The club played at the Memorial Recreation Ground from 1985, until moving into Upton Park in 1904, which is also known as the Boleyn Ground. Ham Lane doesn't exist, and Stamford Bridge is the ground that Chelsea moved into in 1904.
4. Who was the club's first manager in their history?

Answer: Syd King

Syd Kind was West Ham's manager for an incredible 30 years, between 1902-32. Paynter took the reigns from 1932-50, followed by Fenton (1950-61), and Ron Greenwood was manager between 1961-74. West Ham only had 8 managers during the 20th century, which is very rare for a football club.
5. Which of these set a record for the most League appearances for the Hammers?

Answer: Billy Bonds

Bonds played an almost unsurmountable 663 League games for West Ham, between 1967-88.
6. Who did West Ham beat in 1968 to set a club record for their biggest League victory?

Answer: Sunderland

The game took place on 19th October, 1968. The Hammers finished in 8th place out of 22 teams in this season, with 44 points from 42 games.
7. West Ham won England's top flight title during the 20th century?

Answer: False

Their highest League position in the 20th century was 3rd in the old 1st Division, in season 1985-86. They did however, win the Division Two title twice, in seasons 1957-58 and 1980-81.

Watson scored 42 league goals in the 1929-30 Division One season, and scored a total of 306 goals, between 1920-35.
9. In which season did West Ham make their debut in the Football League?

Answer: 1919-20

The club finished 7th out of 22 teams in this Division Two season, winning 19 games, drawing 9 and losing 14, and scored 47 points.
