President Bartlet was shot at, in the previous episode, and he was escorted into a limo to prevent being shot. However, before he got to the limo, he was hit in the side and the limo driver turned around and drove directly to the hospital. When President Bartlet got there, Abby went to see his doctor to tell him about President Bartlet having multiple sclerosis.

While most of President Bartlet's staff went to the hospital to see how he was doing, Leo decided to go back to The White House and to the situation room. When he got there, he met with Vice President Hoynes, National Security Adviser Nancy McNally, and more people to discuss a potential attack aimed at the United States and how to thwart it.

Right after Leo met with others, in the situation room to discuss a possible attack against the United States, Nancy McNally, the National Security Adviser, warned him that she felt Iraq was at the cornerstone of the attack. There were other countries that were also planning the attack but Iraq was believed to be, by Nancy, at the center of it.

However, President Bartlet was still in charge but, before he went into surgery, he transferred his power to Leo. Leo sent a message to Iraq to not mess with them.

Josh was brought to the same hospital where President Bartlet was being treated and President Bartlet was doing fine since he needed just minor surgery. According to his doctor, the bullet did not hit anything major. However, Josh was a different story since he was in critical condition and the doctor that tended to him said Josh required major surgery. Josh survived the gunshot wound.

In the flashbacks in this episode, we got to learn how Josh became a member of The Bartlet Administration. Josh reluctantly agreed to see President Bartlet's speech, in New Hampshire, but he stopped in New York and spoke to Sam. Josh tried to urge Sam to join the Hoynes campaign but Sam refused but Josh promised him that, if Bartlet turned out to be the better candidate, he would join the Bartlet team.
