Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Anne's parents, Walter and Bertha Shirley, die?

Answer: Scarlet Fever

After the death of Mr. Hammond, Mrs. Hammond decided to leave Anne at the orphanage. When she did so, she explained that Anne's parents had died of the fever when Anne was a baby. Scarlet Fever hit one of Anne's beloved again in the second film, "Anne of Green Gables The Sequel".
2. Where did Aunt Josephine live?

Answer: Charlottetown

Anne met Aunt Jo while spending the night with Diana. They jumped on a bed in the guest room, not knowing that Aunt Jo was sleeping in it. Anne apologized to her the next day, in her usual dramatic fashion, and won the heart of the old woman. Anne later visited Aunt Jo quite often when she studied at Queens in Charlottetown.
3. What was the name of the Queens student that Mr. Phillips fancied?

Answer: Prissy Andrews

Prissy Andrews was studying for her entrance exam into Queens. She was tutored by Mr. Phillips, Anne's grammar school teacher. Mr. Phillips was later forced to leave Avonlea for failing to provide adequate discipline amongst his students. He was replaced by Miss Stacy.
4. At the end of the movie, whom did Diana say she was interested in?

Answer: Gilbert Blythe

Diana asked Anne if Gilbert was fair game. Anne asked, "Why, Diana Barry, if you were interested in Gilbert Blythe, why didn't you ever say so?" To which Diana replied, "Because I thought my bosom friend was in love with him."
5. Mrs. Blewett had three sets of twins.

Answer: False

Mrs. Blewett had two sets of twins. She wanted Anne to work for her but Marilla stated, "I wouldn't give a dog I liked to that Blewett woman". So, she agreed to take Anne home again to discuss the situation with Matthew. Of course, Marilla eventually decided to keep Anne.
6. When Matthew walked into the store to buy Anne's dress, which of the following items did he NOT ask for first?

Answer: A garden hose

Matthew went into the store to buy Anne a dress with puffed sleeves. He was so shy about asking for the dress, that he first asked for a rake and then for some hayseed. He then purchased 20 pounds of brown sugar. Finally, just before leaving, he managed to work up the courage to ask for the dress.
7. Anne's dance card went missing at the Christmas ball.

Answer: True

Anne put her dance card on the refreshment table to dance with Diana. Gilbert looked at the table as if he was about to walk over. The next scene showed Diana and Anne dancing in their pajamas back at the house. Diana said, "I bet Gilbert took your dance card." Anne stated that Gilbert would never be capable of such a romantic gesture.

It was never revealed as to who took Anne's card, though it was implied that it was Gilbert.
8. What name did Anne give to Barry's Pond?

Answer: The Lake of Shining Waters

On her way to Green Gables for the first time, Anne was mesmerized by the beauty of Prince Edward Island. In addition to Barry's Pond, she also renamed The Avenue, calling it White Way of Delight.
9. Who was Katie?

Answer: Anne's window friend

After Anne apologized to Rachel Lynde for her outburst, Anne and Marilla strolled home together. During the walk, Anne told Marilla about Katie, her window friend, which was really just her own reflection. She told Marilla that she discovered Katie while living with the family she lived with prior to the Hammonds. Anne was shown talking to Katie just after Mr. Hammond died.

She looked at her reflection and said, "I know you understand, Katie, but if I hadn't lost myself in the beauty of the day, poor Mr. Hammond might still be with us." When Marilla found out about Katie, she told Anne, "I don't think you should have window friends anymore."
10. The last scene showed which two people walking toward Green Gables?

Answer: Anne and Gilbert

Gilbert, who also studied to be a teacher, wrote to the board and asked if his post and Anne's could be switched. By doing so, he made it possible for Anne to teach in town and still live on at Green Gables. The movie ended with Gilbert placing his arm around Anne and walking her home.
