Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How are people able to reach Reedsville?

Answer: Because of a recent drought

A group of friends ride a pontoon boat out into a lake on a sunny day. One of their group, excited about a topographical map he found at a local library, lets the others know that the lake is on the destroyed town of Reedsville, and they can get to it because of the recent drought. Two of them, brother and sister Jake and Finn, suit up to dive in and see it for themselves, swimming through the murky water to the lake's floor.

It's not long before they start finding evidence of what they came looking for...but that's when something grabs onto Jake's leg, tightly, and holds him underwater. Finn surfaces to scream for help, and when she comes back, something pulls him under the sand.
2. Finn asks her mother what was placed into Jake's coffin at his funeral. What does she claim she put into it?

Answer: Mementos

Four months after the incident at the lake, Finn returns home with her parents and heads straight to her room. Her mother and father worry that they brought her home too soon, but a couple more weeks in a mental health clinic, they reason, wasn't going to help her mourn.

As she leaves the room, her parents argue. Jeffrey, allegedly swamped with work, doesn't talk anymore, and Erin wonders if he's hiding himself away in it. All of them struggle with the loss. That night, when Erin checks in on her daughter, Finn asks what they placed in Jake's casket, since a body was never found. Mementos, her mother explains; she turned it into a time capsule. Finn just wishes she was there.
3. Erin appears to be attacked by a submerged being in her own home when she does which of these activities?

Answer: Draws a bath

Finn, now home from the mental health clinic, admits that she still believes in what she saw in the lake, and no amount of treatment has cured her of that. Her mother reminds her that it just takes time.

When Erin heads to bed she finds Jeffrey still awake and working. It's because of this that she runs a bath. She looks away for a few moments and turns back to find the bathwater murky with seaweed floating around. It's then, when she moves close, that an arm reaches up from the tub, grabbing her to pull her in. She manages to pull herself away, but when she looks back, the water's clear. It's partly why, the day after, she starts looking up Lake Prescott.
4. Who sees Jake's ghost when it appears at the family home?

Answer: Erin

As Erin starts to dig deeper into the alleged curse at Lake Prescott, Jeffrey takes the opportunity to admit that he was wrong. Not only did he hide himself away in work to cope with Jake's death and disappearance, but they need to move forward if not for their sake, then for Finn's. He promises that he'll change and be stronger, but Erin says they just need him to be here.

Finn, in bed, struggles to fall asleep because she can't stop thinking about the last moments she saw Jake in the lake. Erin, meanwhile, awakens to the sound of a faucet turning on in the kitchen. When it refuses to stay off (despite her attempts), she's shocked again by the sound of the backdoor slamming open. Outside, the pool runoff overflows. As she shuts it off, the drowned spectre of Jake appears behind her and asks her to find him.
5. Who agrees to head back to the lake to search for Jake's body?

Answer: Finn

The day after Erin has her vision of Jake, she explains the situation to Jeffrey and says that she can't ignore her son's pleas. She wants them to go back to the lake, but Jeffrey thinks she's simply not letting go. The police searched the lake for days and came up with nothing, and their going back will only reopen the wounds they've fought to close. Based on the visions, however, Erin knows her son wants to go home.

Finn overhears the conversation from outside the bedroom door, and when Jeffrey leaves for work, she tells her mother that she believes her. In fact, she volunteers to go with her to the lake so that she can point out exactly where it happened. Perhaps, if she helps bring Jake home, her nightmares can end. They say that they can't tell Jeffrey. They pack their things, leave a note, and depart before he can get home and find out.

They head straight to the family cabin.
6. Erin, diving into the lake, finds a trio of corpses and grabs which of these from one of the bodies?

Answer: Necklace

Finn and Erin arrive at the family cabin and almost immediately and Erin immediately dwells in fonder memories of the family spending time together. She vowed she would never come back; Finn's amazed she could bring herself to do it. Finn blames herself for not being able to do more.

They waste no time in getting a boat out onto the lake and riding out to the spot Finn last saw her brother. Erin suits up, ties a rope around her waist, and tells her daughter that if she doesn't surface in a few minutes, she should pull her up as fast as she can.

When Erin reaches the lakebed, what she inevitably finds is distressing. Finding the tricycle as a way-marker, she follows her daughter's directions to find three bodies chained to a cement block and tears a necklace from its neck. That's when the corpse grabs her and pulls her down.
7. The Boone family originally settled in the Lake Prescott region for which of these?

Answer: Farming

As soon as Erin is grabbed by the corpse on the lakebed, Finn tries to pull her up, finding that the near-impossible strength from below is too much. Erin, finally let go, at a point, opens her eyes to find that she's face-to-face with the corpse of her missing son as he floats to meet her. It's because of this that Finn is able to pull her in.

When the mother and daughter reach the shore they contact the local police to describe their findings and tend to Finn's wounds, burns from the rope. The police searched the area for weeks and found nothing; in a few hours, Erin and Finn found everything. The problem is that the police couldn't find the spot again, even when directed to by Erin this time; they couldn't find the concrete block. But she did bring back Jake.

When Erin hands over the necklace, however, the detective recognizes the name on it: Boone. It belonged to the family that farmed the area before it was a lake. One of their descendants, Millie, still lives near the lake.
8. The men at the bottom of the lake were put there to ensure the creation of which of these?

Answer: A dam

Jeffrey phones Erin to criticize his wife for bringing Finn back to the lake, but when she reveals they found Jake's body and the police are bringing him in for an autopsy, his tune changes. She insists they have a new burial for their son, a real one. They can talk about it when they get home; they're planning to leave in an hour.

Erin and Finn don't leave quite yet though. Instead, they dive deeper to understand what's going on, and to do that, they stop off at Millie Boone's seniors home, just across the Prescott town line, far enough from the lake. It's there that Millie falsely explains that people die in Lake Prescott because they're stupid and careless. When Finn and Erin describe what they've seen and reveal the necklace, Millie explains the truth-- it belonged to Maynard Nathaniel Boone, her great-grandfather. The state's favourite son, Wrede Prescott, killed him when the family stood in the way of a creation of a dam. He got rid of the men on the slab to avoid having anyone stand in his way. When the dam diverted the water, the men drowned.
9. Jeffrey, it is revealed, is a descendant of the Boone family.

Answer: False

To this day, according to Millie, people have fought to have the dam taken down. Wrede Prescott left an endowment to protect the dam and avoid exposing his crime. It's why any petition has been shot down over the past century. That endowment is kept safe by a firm called Spindell & Weber.

When Erin and Finn hear this, they're shocked by the information. They head back to the cabin, pack their things, and prepare to leave, but Jeffrey arrives at that moment as the pair hadn't come home yet. Erin tells him what she found out-- it's his firm that kept the dam up and running. In fact, it's Jeffrey's case. The man he works for, who built the dam, killed people.

Jeffrey brushes off the concerns. Plenty of people die, he claims, and his wife's visions speak to a larger issue with her mental health. Both his wife and daughter, however, lash out, especially when he claims that Erin never questioned where the money came from.

When Jeffrey reveals that he and Finn are from the Prescott lineage, all the pieces fall into place. Jeffrey is proud of the legacy, a legacy Finn will inherit, but Erin and Finn realize it's why Jake died. The lake is angry, and they could come for Finn too.
10. Who, of these, doesn't survive the vengeful spirits of Lake Prescott?

Answer: Jeffrey

Jeffrey shuts his wife and daughter down and tells them that they need to go home, but they're stopped short when the power is cut. Looking outside, they notice the bubbling that comes from the waters of the lake. Moments later, the bodies of those claimed by the water rise to the shoreline and surround the house. Jeffrey fights back, insisting to his family that they're all going to be okay, but once the corpses grab a hold of him, they carry him out to the lake and drag him under its surface.

Finn screams that they need to help him, but Erin stops her from descending with them. It must have been what the spirits of the lake wanted all along. If no one believes their story, it won't much matter. The drought is getting worse. Before long, the bodies of Lake Prescott will come tot he surface and the truth will come out.
