Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This citizen of "M*A*S*H" was the commanding officer. He got discharged and was on his way home. Hawkeye and Trapper bought him a suit, but once he was over the Sea of Japan, a Korean SAM hit him and he was shot down.

Answer: Henry Blake

Henry Blake was the shortest serving commanding officer of "M*A*S*H". He was there only three seasons before he was discharged. Henry never made it home; he was just out of Kimpo Airport when a SAM hit his plane and he was shot down. Radar was the one who broke the bad news to Hawkeye and the rest of the camp.
2. This roomate of Hawkeye's was there only three seasons but he left as quickly as he came and never said goodbye. "I missed him by 10 lousy minutes!"

Answer: Trapper

Trapper served longer than Henry but he too was called home. While Hawkeye was in Tokyo on R&R, Trapper was on his way home. Hawkeye stole a steam shovel, hitched a ride on a rickshaw, and rode shotgun with Radar, but by the time he got to Kimpo, Trapper was long gone. Hawkeye was furious when he went into the MATTS commanders office.

While listening to a sargent order stuff for McArthur he picked up the flight manifest and found out his buddy was gone. "I missed Trapper by ten lousy minutes!"
3. This "M*A*S*H" clerk was a cross dresser and served as the night guard. "Chief Surgeon Who" was his first appearance and in every subsequent appearance he was always up to no good.

Answer: Klinger

Klinger always made me laugh every time he came up with his latest scam. When we first met Klinger he was wearing a WAC outfit and when surgery was over we found Klinger buck naked. Since then Klinger always tried to get out of the war by crossdressing or attempting some similar crazy stunt. One time Klinger almost was discharged but with a Section 9 instead of a Section 8.

In "Snap Judgement" we learned what a Section 9 was and if Klinger lost the case he would have been discharged and sent to jail. Klinger changed his tune by season 6 and started wearing uniforms. On his day off he wore a pitcher's outfit and baseball hat to support his favorite team.
4. This Hawkeye roommate replaced Trapper, and Hawkeye picked him up just as Trapper was taking off. He gave his bars to Radar, he gave his coat to a wounded girl, he lost his hat to the wind at an MP checkpoint, and he soiled his uniform and lost his lunch caring for the wounded.

Answer: BJ

BJ became Hawkeye's new partner in crime. With Trapper gone, Hawkeye broke in BJ in his image. In "Welcome to Korea" BJ arrived in full uniform but lost it by the end of the episode because of every roadblock Hawkeye and Radar faced from Kimpo to "M*A*S*H".

The first roadblock was the officers club and their stolen jeep. BJ gave Radar his bars. The second one was the MP checkpoint. BJ lost his hat to the wind on the road. The third was the Korean farm. BJ gave his coat to a wounded girl who blew herself up in the minefield after Radar went in to get them out. BJ soiled his uniform when he went to care for the wounded, and then he lost his lunch. Hawkeye took him to Rosie's for a drink and during orientation we saw a bar fight in the background.
5. The longest serving commanding officer of "M*A*S*H" and also my favorite, he arrived in "Change of Command".

Answer: Sherman T. (The Colonel) Potter

Potter arrived like most people did, in a jeep. As he pulled in beeping his horn Radar was standing outside Post OP with a tanning board. Radar said, "Stick that horn in your ear". Potter came up to him and said, "On your feet soldier, I'm Colonel Potter". Radar dropped the tanning board and rushed over to Potter's jeep and helped him unpack. That was Radar's introduction to his boss. Later Klinger showed up and tried his scam as always, but Potter burned him with one of his now famous Potterisms. "Horse hockey! I seen these dodges for 40 years, all the tricks. Knew a private, pretended to be a mare. Carried a colt in his arms for weeks.

Another fellow said he was a daisy. Insisted we water him every morning. No no, Corporal that ain't gonna to go with me. Now get out of that froufrou and into a uniform. And you stay in uniform. Dismissed!" Later Hawkeye and BJ introduced him to surgery and he passed with flying colors. Later that night he and the boys shared some moonshine in the Swamp and Potter told them how he got his purple heart after his still blew up on Guam.
6. This orderly was also the server. His first day on the job was "Five O'Clock Charlie".

Answer: Igor

Igor was the goofy server of "M*A*S*H", but the only ones who complained were Hawkeye, Frank, and Winchester. Without him "M*A*S*H" did not eat.
7. He was the head major at "M*A*S*H" until he went AWOL to Seoul and landed in the brig. He was obnoxious, clueless, and sometimes reckless, and Hawkeye considered him a bad surgeon. He was crazy for Hot Lips and they were close for several seasons, but when Hot Lips found out about his life back home and she got married she didn't like him, nor did anyone else at "M*A*S*H".

Answer: Frank

Frank was always the odd one out. Frank tried everything to get command, but each time he failed. In "Fade in Fade Out" Frank was busted for being a peeping tom and landed in the clink. Sidney had to check if he was fit to return to "M*A*S*H". Frank was declared unfit for duty, given the Section 8 Klinger was after, and got sent stateside. That was not the end of Frank; when he got home all charges were dropped and he was promoted.
8. This surgeon replaced Frank and was a pain in the butt. Hawkeye and BJ got along with him better, but hated his bugle playing and didn't like most of his etudes.

Answer: Winchester

Winchester was a better surgeon than Frank and well disciplined. While Frank refused to touch Hawkeye's moonshine, Winchester was a boozer and sometimes was there to test the moonshine. Winchester had a record player set up in the Swamp which he used to play etudes, chief among them is Mozart. Winchester liked duck hunting (which always blows up the minefields), eating pheasant under glass (which resulted in him and Klinger giving the camp food poisoning and Hawkeye and BJ had to go get the cure from another unit), and reading the Globe (which he donated to the camp when their subscription to "Stars and Stripes" was canceled.)
9. The clerk of "M*A*S*H" and the longest serving. He was on R&R when his uncle died in a farming accident, and was sent home. His parting gift to "M*A*S*H" was a new generator. His teddy was added to the "M*A*S*H" time capsule.

Answer: Radar

Good old Radar. "M*A*S*H" would not be "M*A*S*H" without him. From season 1 to season 5 Radar shuffled papers in his office at "M*A*S*H". One day he went on R&R and Klinger was made temporary clerk. This became permanent when Radar lost Uncle Ed in a farming accident and was sent home. Radar gave "M*A*S*H" a new generator which Klinger picked up, and gave his teddy to Hawkeye who placed it in the time capsule.
10. This citizen of "M*A*S*H" was the camp's mechanic and owned the motor pool. His first day on the job was in "Yalu Brick Road" to replace Sergeant Zale. On his first day he got food poisoning from a bad turkey which Klinger gave to him.

Answer: Rizzo

Rizzo owned the motor pool. When he arrived on Thanksgiving Day Klinger gave him a turkey, but the whole camp got sick and he threatened to beat Klinger to a pulp for poisoning him. Klinger succumbed to the food poisoning when he himself ate the bad bird. Hawkeye and BJ eventually brought the cure for the food poisoning that Klinger and Winchester gave to them.
