Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode "Tuttle" Hawkeye, Trapper and Radar make up a fictitious captain so that supplies and Hawkeye's salary can be donated to a nearby orphanage. Does Henry ever find out about the hoax during the episode?

Answer: No

In fact, the only ones who would ever know the truth were Trapper, Radar and Hawkeye! This episode is one of the funniest ever! There was Henry telling Frank that he just had breakfast with Tuttle that morning, there was Margaret almost drooling on Tuttle's file when she read what Hawkeye and Trapper had thrown in just for her- ("Auburn hair, hazel eyes.") and even General Clayton wanting to reward Tuttle with a medal for all his charitable work.

When Hawkeye informed all that were gathered at the ceremony for Tuttle that Tuttle was dead because he jumped from a chopper without his parachute on his way to do field surgery, the whole camp saluted and a tearful Henry said, "He was the best damn OD we ever had".
2. In the episode "Mad Dogs And Servicemen" Radar gets bit on the hand by a dog. The only problem is that no one knows if the dog is rabid or not! In one scene Henry and Radar come across Rosie, who was the owner of Rosie's Bar And Grill, just across the road from the camp. After some small talk, Radar and Henry fill Rosie in on what happened to Radar and inquire if she's seen the dog. She says she has not, but she asks two nearby elderly Koreans if they have seen it. They say they have and Radar and Henry proceed to look up part of their answer with the help of a Korean-English dictionary. To their horror, the discover that the words they looked up translates into "dog stew". What did Henry say that the elderly Koreans took the dog home in?

Answer: "A people bag"

Happily, the dog was finally located and Radar didn't have to have any more shots! The scene where Trapper and Henry are chasing the dog and then the dog starts chasing them is hilarious! I also like the scene where Henry is checking Radar's mini-zoo for rabies.

He says, "OK, there's no rabies in this in this group. Now, so none of us will ever have to go through this again, I'm gonna vaccinate all your little hoo-ha's". Funny!
3. In the episode "Bulletin Board" Henry is depressed because a patient of his dies. But there's a cookout coming up that will benefit the local orphanage. There will be lots of fun and good food; my favorite activity is Klinger's kissing booth! Henry doesn't want to go at first but he finally does and he starts to have a good time. But the war once again interrupts the camp's fun and they rush off to treat the wounded. In the OR Henry says, "Pierce". Hawkeye says, "Yes, Henry". What does Henry say next?

Answer: "Good idea, that picnic"

Hawkeye says, "Yes, Henry". The cookout also included a puppet show, games, a make-shift drum session with Radar, Igor and Zale plus a hula dancer.
4. In the episode "There Is Nothing Like A Nurse" the nurses have to be evacuated because there's an impending air attack. In one scene Klinger, Radar, Henry, Hawkeye and Trapper had just finished watching Frank's funny wedding film when Frank came bursting through Henry's office door, yelling "Air Raid"! Radar looked through a window, saw the plane and proclaimed, "Holy Cow! It's Five O'Clock Charlie!" After banging his head from under his desk, what did Henry say?

Answer: "That idiot? That's the raid?"

Five O'Clock Charlie was an enemy pilot with pretty poor eyesight. Or as Hawkeye put it, "He couldn't hit the side of a war." Charlie was also on another episode called - (surprise!) "Five O'Clock Charlie".
5. What was Henry's unusual middle name?

Answer: Braymore

Xavier was Trapper's middle name. Emerson was Charles's middle name. I just threw Lexington in.
6. Where did Henry's parents go for their second honeymoon?

Answer: Niagara Falls

We find this information out in the episode "Hot Lips And Empty Arms". Radar is delivering the mail and looks at the postcard from Henry's parents. He informs Henry of their trip. Henry replies, "I do hope they don't give me a little brother or sister". Radar sure liked looking at other people's mail, didn't he?
7. How does Henry die in the episode "Abyssinia, Henry"?

Answer: His plane was shot down

The scene where Radar informs everyone that Henry has died has got to be one of the saddest in TV history. I have to admit that Frank and Margaret's reactions still take me by surprise a little since they spent so much time getting Henry into trouble when he was alive.
8. Henry's next-door neighbors are the Smiths.

Answer: False

His next-door neighbors are the Jaffes. Henry's wife sends him home movies of his daughter's birthday party that is followed by a black and white reel of Henry acting silly. The reel also features his wife, his daughter, and the Jaffes. Henry informs his fellow film watchers that Milt Jaffe is a gynecologist. Hawkeye says, "Oh, that's convenient. Everybody should have a gynecologist next door".

Then the fellows saw a very pretty lady on the screen; it was Milt's wife Sylvia. After Trapper and Hawkeye made some approving comments, Henry said, "Boy, that Sylvia Jaffe is loaded for bear".
9. What was the name of the nurse that Henry was involved with during the first season of "M*A*S*H"?

Answer: Leslie

Leslie was played by Linda Meiklejohn. I believe she was only on the show for the first season.
10. What was the name of the young woman that Henry fell for while he was in Tokyo?

Answer: Nancy Sue Parker

In the episode "Henry In Love" Henry falls for Ms. Parker, who is a civilian typist. She was also a cheerleader at Ohio State University; she reveals this when she hears what I can only guess is a college fight song on the jukebox. Hawkeye says, "Give us a cheer, Nanc. Come on, one for The Gipper".

She obliges, delighting the crowd and Henry beams with pride. Or as Hawkeye says, "The proud father". A few minutes later Hawkeye walks Nancy to her tent and she repays him by giving him a big wet kiss.

Henry never finds out but after Radar organises a phone call between Henry and his wife, Henry realizes it's his wife that he really loves and how foolish he's been acting. He tells Trapper and Hawkeye that he's glad that Nancy has left. And a big cheer to Radar for placing the call!
11. Henry first asked for a banana daiquiri at the official opening of The Officer's Club.

Answer: True

In the episode "Officers Only" Henry informed the bartender that he'd been "dying all day for a banana daiquiri". The bartender looked puzzled and asked Henry if that was a drink. Henry replied that it was and told the bartender the ingredients and how to make it.

The bartender informed Henry that most of the ingredients were not available. Henry then requested a beer! Also, at the opening of The Officer's Club the enlisted men were welcome, due to the actions of the enlisted men, Hawkeye and Trapper.
12. In the episode "To Market, To Market" Hawkeye and Trapper were trying to make a deal with a local black marketeer in order to get some much needed hydrocortisone. Henry just happened to have a possession that Hawkeye informed the black marketeer of. The black marketeer, dressed as a general, saw this possession, liked it and said it was a deal. What was the possession?

Answer: A genuine antique oak desk

Hawkeye and Trapper sure had a hard time getting the desk out of Henry's office! First, they were in Henry's office and Frank accidentally locked them in. Then they had to use Henry's surgical tools that were in his office to surgically remove the back wall.

Then they had to hurry and get the desk to the chopper that would take the desk to the black marketeer. The look on Henry's face as he saw his desk being whisked away is priceless! The black marketeer was played by the late Jack Soo of "Barney Miller" fame.
13. Henry refused to let someone who was having a marital crisis go home. Who was it?

Answer: The Cowboy

In the episode "Cowboy" a chopper pilot nicknamed The Cowboy is wounded and recovers in the post-op ward. He confides in Hawkeye that he's afraid that his wife is being unfaithful. Hawkeye tells The Cowboy he'll talk to Henry. At first Hawkeye shows Henry Cowboy's X-Ray and tells Henry that he thinks Cowboy should go home.

Henry looks at the X-Ray and says the wound in Cowboy's shoulder doesn't look all that serious. Then Hawkeye tells Henry the real problem, but Henry is unmoved. Cowboy becomes so angry at Henry he makes several attempts to kill him; for example; he rigs a jeep to drive into Henry's tent.

This all comes to a scary climax when Cowboy tries to push Henry out of a moving chopper! Luckily, Radar finds a letter from Cowboy's wife which Hawkeye reads to Cowboy via radio. Cowboy's wife confessed that she was tempted but now she loves him more than ever. Cowboy is happy now and flies Henry back to camp. Remember "Dear John From Reno"? Cowboy's name was John and he was from Reno! Whoa!
14. In the episode "Henry, Please Come Home" Henry is transferred to Tokyo for teaching purposes. Sadly, that left Frank in charge. Hawkeye and Trapper were not about to put up with that so they went to Tokyo to try and convince Henry to go back to the 4077th. Their pleas fall on deaf ears until a well-placed phone call from Leslie and Radar comes into play. Hawkeye takes the call, which is another resort to get Henry to return. After Hawkeye hangs up he tells Trapper they have to get back to camp as there is a medical emergency. As planned, Trapper blurts out the name of the supposed "patient" which causes Henry to go back with them. Who was the "patient"?

Answer: Radar

Henry went right to the post-op ward after the chopper landed and started to examine Radar. Frank came in while Henry was examining Radar and asked what Radar was doing in bed. When he was told that Radar was sick, Frank said, "Sick? I just saw him eat a quart of ice cream a half-an-hour ago". Radar replied, "I was so sick, I didn't know what I was doing".

Henry soon discovered that Radar's "illness" was fake but he decided to stay anyway.
15. One of the saddest "M*A*S*H" episodes has to be "Sometimes You Hear The Bullet". Hawkeye is operating on an old friend and the friend dies on the operating table. Hawkeye is attempting to revive his friend when Henry, realizing how futile Hawkeye's efforts are, says something to Hawkeye. What did Henry say?

Answer: "Pierce, go help McIntyre."

Hawkeye was overjoyed when his old friend Tommy Gillis paid him a surprise visit. Tommy informed Hawkeye that he had joined the infantry. Henry just happened to be there and Hawk introduced Henry to Tommy. I love it when Tommy says, "Henry, you're a beautiful sight!" and then proceeds to kiss him on the mouth! A very dazed Henry can only respond with "How's it going..Tommy"? The next scene is in the Swamp. Tommy is delighting Trapper with tales of Hawkeye's exploits as a youth. Hawkeye asks Tommy why, with his background, he's a soldier and not a war correspondent. Tommy replies that as a soldier, he's living the war, not just reporting it.

He tells Hawk and Trap that he's writing a book called "You Never Hear The Bullet." Then there's an announcement that a new batch of wounded are arriving so Hawk and Trap say good-bye to Tommy and proceed to meet the wounded.

After the OR session Hawk tries to get romantic with a nurse but they keep getting interrupted. Then the camp gets a new batch of wounded; sadly, Tommy is among them. Tommy dies while Hawkeye is operating but Hawkeye refuses to accept this.

He says that he's going to open Tommy up and tells the nurse to give him certain instruments. The nurse is slow in responding so Hawkeye starts getting the instruments himself. This is when Henry steps in and tells Hawkeye to go help Trapper. Hawkeye does, with some reluctance. You know, this episode is very confusing because, if you recall in the episode "Hawk's Nightmare" Hawkeye had a horrible dream that Tommy had died in a sledding accident when he and Hawkeye were kids. He even calls Tommy to tell him about his dream and to see if he's OK!
16. This question also has to do with the episode "Sometimes You Hear The Bullet". After the OR session where Tommy dies is over, we see a weeping Hawkeye and Henry asking if there's anything he can do. After awhile Henry says there are two things that he learned in command school. Henry says, "Rule number one is young men die". What was rule number two?

Answer: Doctors can't change rule number one.

This was the first but certainly not the last episode where we would see Hawkeye cry. The episode "Who Knew" is another episode where Hawkeye cries. It's also a very sad episode.
17. In the episode "The Long john Flap" Henry was the last person to receive Hawk's missing long johns. Hawkeye and Trapper went to see Henry to tell him of the missing long johns, not knowing that he was wearing them at the time! While they were talking, Henry doubled over in pain and moaned. What was wrong with Henry?

Answer: His appendix was about to burst

Henry confessed that he hadn't been feel well lately and that he'd been throwing up. Hawkeye guessed by where Henry held his hand that his appendix was about to burst. Henry told Hawkeye and Trapper to remove the long johns before they started to operate!
18. This question is also about the episode "The Long john Flap". Did Henry return the long johns to Hawkeye?

Answer: Yes

Radar entered the Swamp informing Hawkeye that Henry had a present for him because Hawkeye saved his life. Hawkeye said, "I hope that's a discharge". Radar unwrapped the plain brown wrapper and said, "No. It's these". Then he tossed the long johns to a very happy Hawkeye. Of course Trapper and Radar both started pretending they were sick, but Hawkeye wasn't buying it!
19. In the episode "Life With Father" Henry received a letter from his wife stating that she would understand that if he got so lonely he needed to fool around with another woman. Henry was very delighted with this news until he thought that his wife might have said this because she was fooling around. Did Henry call his wife to confirm this?

Answer: Yes

It was a very short call because Henry and his wife were disconnected. I believe his wife did admit being unfaithful, because, at one point, Henry said a certain name and then said, "Oh Lorraine! An Orthodontist?"
20. In the episode "Private Charles Lamb" Radar the animal lover set free a cute little lamb that was to be the main course at a Greek celebration that the 4077th was invited to participate in. Radar later confessed to Henry, Trapper and Hawkeye that he set the lamb free and that the lamb is on his way to Iowa. Hawkeye and Trapper told Henry that they would get a lamb. And they did; the infamous "Spam Lamb"! What did Henry say when Hawkeye when presented him with the "Spam Lamb"?

Answer: "What the hell is that"?

Henry was somewhat upset with Radar when he found out that Radar had set the lamb free. Or as Henry put it, "I've got command on my tail and a hospital full of Greeks waiting for a lamb who is sitting on a plane on his way to Iowa to become Radar's little brother"! But after Henry got drunk off a Greek liquor all was forgiven. Well, that's it! I hope you enjoyed this quiz! Bye!
