Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The battlestar Galactica had its own weapons, but its most effective military assets were fighters that were able to engage the enemy one on one. What were these fighters called?

Answer: Vipers

Colonial Vipers were agile, effective starfighters, with a great design. They were so popular that the Air Force started nicknaming the F-16 jets "Vipers." Their design didn't change much in the re-imagined series, because they were so sleek.

Reavers are the insane cannibals from "Firefly."

Vikings are ancient Norse seafarers.

X-Wings are starfighters from Star Wars.
2. The basic premise of the show was that a rag-tag fleet of mis-matched ships were escaping war and tyranny to search for Earth. From what homeworld did they flee?

Answer: Caprica

Caprica was the home to the central government of the Twelve Colonies, and its name is derived from the Capricorn tribe of Kobol.

"Star Wars" fans would recognize Corellia as a planet in that universe.
3. The fleet had to be led by someone competent and thoughtful in order to survive the long search for Earth. What was the name of the commander of the Galactica?

Answer: Adama

Not only was Adama the military commander of the fleet, he was in many ways their spiritual leader as well, and exhibited some extraordinary mental abilities. Although he loved his family very much, he knew that he had to put them at risk in order to protect the rest of his fleet.

Archer was the captain of the NX-01 in the "Star Trek" prequel series: "Enterprise"

Starbuck was a Viper pilot serving on the Galactica.

Adams was mainly there to throw you off, but in the "Caprica" spin-off series of the reboot, Adama's family name had been changed to Adams.
4. The Colonial Vipers are exceptional ships, but they were always being upgraded to stay one step ahead of the enemy. A prototype voice activated system was installed on a ship that Starbuck flew. What was the name of that computer system?

Answer: C.O.R.A.

C.O.R.A. was a self-guided system that was able to take control of the Viper as needed, and had a little bit of an attitude. In fact, it wasn't long after that the same producers started the same premise with another TV show: "Knight Rider."

H.A.L. was the computer that went a little nuts in "2001: A Space Odyssey."

K.I.T.T. is the talking car in "Knight Rider."

W.O.P.R. is the computer that wants to start thermonuclear war in "War Games."
5. The Galactica and its fleet were always on the run from an emotionless enemy that destroyed their homeworld. Who were they?

Answer: Cylons

The Cylons in the original series were robotic creations of a reptilian species, and overthrew their creators, eventually determined to wipe out all human life in the galaxy. Emotionless, there was not much depth to them until the final episode of Galactica 1980, where Starbuck is stranded on a deserted planet with a lone Cylon, and uncovers some depth to them.

Psychlos were the domineering race from "Battlefield:Earth."

Cybermen were the cyborg race from "Doctor Who."

Cyborgs are the general term for part-human, part machine beings.
6. Adama had three children: Zac, who died in the Cylon attack of Caprica, Athena, who served on the bridge of the Galactica, and one other son, who was a Viper pilot. What was this son's name?

Answer: Apollo

Played by Richard Hatch, Apollo was a captain of the Colonial Warriors. Did you ever notice that the names in "Battlestar Galactica" are related to our ancient mythology?
7. The Cylon attack on Caprica was largely successful due to the betrayal by a human. Who was he?

Answer: Baltar

Baltar convinced the Twelve Colonies that the Cylons were interested in peace, and led all of their forces to a central location for the peace conference. The Cylons attacked and destroyed much of the fleet as well as the Colonies themselves. Baltar had wanted his homeworld saved so that he could rule over it, but the Cylons, determined to wipe out all of humanity, destroyed it as well.

Lucifer (in the show) is a Cylon attached to Baltar when they give him charge to find the fleet.

Baccus is made up, but in Roman mythology is the god of wine.

Apollo would never betray the Colonies.
8. How many battlestars survived the initial Cylon attack?

Answer: Two

While it was thought for a while that the Galactica was the only surviving battlestar, it was later discovered the the Pegasus also survived the attack. In the course of that episode, the Pegasus was destroyed by a Cylon attack.
9. Apollo falls in love and marries Serina, a reporter who survived the attack on Caprica. She had a son who Apollo adopts. What is his name?

Answer: Boxey

Boxey also survived the destruction of Caprica with his mother. In the Galactica 1980 continuation, Boxey has grown up and explores Earth as Captain Troy, and it is explained that his nickname was "Boxey."
10. Boxey had a pet named Muffit. What kind of animal was he?

Answer: Daggit

A daggit was similar to a dog. Boxey's daggit, Muffit, died early on, and Apollo worked out a way to get him a robotic version so that Boxey wouldn't feel alone. Boxey took to the new version well, and they became inseparable.
