Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first leg of the race sent teams to Taipei, Taiwan, where a task allowed them to take which of these down the Keelong River?

Answer: Dragon boat

To end off the first leg of the race, the eleven teams heading through Taipei were told to join a dragon boat and, with one person at the helm drumming in time and another among the ranks of rowers, they needed to travel along the Keelong River and back to complete the task.

This leg of the race was notable in that no one was eliminated at the end (despite it being the first leg). The non-elimination spared Bill and Cathi (who would place fifth in the end), but it would result in the first-ever double elimination in the following leg.
2. How many teams were unable to check into the race's second Pit Stop (in Yogyakarta) as a result of a failure to complete a task at a local orphanage?

Answer: Eight

The city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia was the destination visited in Leg 3, and it's there that teams faced the first-ever double-elimination Pit Stop in the race's history. Teams were required to complete a Detour task in the city that involved earning money by either working a valet service or performing on a street corner, and after that they had to give that money and all money in their possession to a city orphanage.

The catch was that teams did not know the latter part of the task until arriving at the orphanage and reading a sign. Only three teams caught the requirement; eight had to turn around. Teams continued in Indonesia in Leg 3.
3. In Leg 3, teams visited what temple complex in Indonesia?

Answer: Borobudur

Leg 3 took the teams out of the hustle and bustle of the city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia and placed them into the rural countryside of Java where, after a Detour completing tasks on a rice farm, teams headed to the rediscovered temple complex at Borobudur to complete a difficult Road Block that involved counting various types of statues on the upper floors of the main temple.

The leg was the last one for Kaylani and Lisa, the Vegas showgirls who would have had to face the Hazard penalty in later legs of the race had they stayed in.
4. In Leg 4, teams visited Ao Phang Nga National Park and checked into a Pit Stop in Koh Panyi, specifically at which of these unique locations?

Answer: Soccer field

After completing their Road Block and spending the rest of the leg navigating the seas and karst islands in Southern Thailand, teams ended up visiting the floating village of Koh Panyi where, after reaching the main dock, they had to navigate to a floating soccer field atop the waters.

There, Andy and Tommy won their third leg of the race in a row and Liz and Marie were spared by the second non-elimination point in the race. Teams remained in Thailand in Leg 5, inevitably making their way north to Bangkok.
5. Leg 6 took teams to what continent?

Answer: Africa

In the sixth leg of the race, teams flew from the city of Bangkok all the way to Malawi, a first-time visit for any season of "The Amazing Race" (not unlike Indonesia). Upon touching down in Lilongwe, the nation's capital, teams went through a series of tasks highlighting the local industries and delving deeper into the villages pushing outward from the city center. Because of Malawi's reliance on rural settings, teams moved from a Road Block at a tobacco warehouse to a school for the Detour and then onward, with their beds on their backs, to a Pit Stop in the cultural center at Kumbali Village.
6. In Leg 7, teams had the opportunity to complete a Detour by paddling around in a lake with which of these?

Answer: Dugout canoes

The seventh leg of the race took teams out of Lilongwe, Malawi and sent them on a bus ride through the African savannah to Lake Malawi's shores. The latter half of the leg was spent there as teams completed physically-demanding Detours in the heat, faced a possible Double U-Turn, and raced on foot to the Pit Stop at the Sunbird Livingstonia Beach. During the 'Dugout' Detour task (completed by most teams), racers had to paddle dugout canoes out into Lake Malawi and then return to shore to get their next clue.
7. In Leg 8 (in Denmark), teams completed which type of task in Frederiksborg Castle?

Answer: Road Block

In Leg 8, teams made the show's first-ever visit to the nation of Denmark, completing tasks in and around the city of Copenhagen. For the Road Block, teams arrived at Frederiksborg Castle and needed to choose one member to learn three different period dance routines in traditional garb. Once the team members completed all three correctly and in succession, they could head out to rural Denmark to face off against a Detour task and, potentially, the Double U-Turn.
8. The tenth leg of the race ended in Brussels, Belgium in front of what landmark (depicted)?

Answer: Atomium

Found in Belgium's capital and built for the 1958 World Fair, the Atomium is a recreation of the composition of the element of iron blown up to the erected size. Teams completed a double-length leg there, traveling from Denmark to Hamburg and into Belgium between legs 9 and 10. Ultimately, Bill and Cathi were eliminated there in fifth place.

This marked the show's first visit to the nation of Belgium in nineteen seasons; it would not return until season 30 (to Antwerp).
9. Leg 11 sent teams traveling to what Central American city to visit the village of Parara Puru and cross a tightrope between the San Francisco Bay Towers?

Answer: Panama City, Panama

This was the first visit to Panama for the show (outside the Family Edition season) and it took the final four teams to Chagres National Park for the night before a full day of tasks in Panama City proper. There, teams had to face a harrowing tightrope walk Road Block between the 35-storey San Francisco Bay Towers and teams had to solve a bit of a puzzle in determining the location of their final Pit Stop at Panama Viejo. Ultimately, race frontrunners Andy and Tommy were fooled by the final clue, depicted on a dress worn by local dancers, and they were last to arrive at the Pit Stop (after six won legs of the race).
10. In the final leg of the race, teams completed a task in Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia.

Answer: False

While teams certainly did follow a puzzling clue to Turner Field, they were not required to enter the stadium. Instead, teams remained out in the parking lot where they had to solve a memory challenge involving a billboard-sized map of the world. Using ropes and carabiners they had to plot their race route before heading to the finish line at Swan House.

It was there that Ernie and Cindy crossed the finish line and won the million dollar prize.
