Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Family Remains"- Sam and Dean investigated a haunting of sorts, as a family moved into their new home. Which family member was killed during the investigation?

Answer: Uncle Ted

Of these choices, only the correct answer was a real character from this episode. Bradley Stryker played Uncle Ted, who was killed by the "ghost" woman. Bradley played the first Trey Atwood on the series "The OC". Trey was Brian's criminally minded older brother. Sam and Dean tried to trick the family into leaving the house while they investigated, but it did not work.

They pretended to be agents Babar and Stanwyk, and homage to actress Barbara Stanwyk. She starred in such classic TV series as "Wagon Train" and "The Big Valley", but was a prolific film actress as well.
2. "Family Remains"- The presence inside the Carter home was a succubus.

Answer: False

The presence inside the house was a man and a woman who'd been hidden away for years in the bowels of the home. They were able to navigate the basement, wall spaces and cubbyholes inside the frame of the home. The story was basically that the grandfather of these two had locked them away from civilization and people for the entirety of their lives.

They behaved like wild animals, and were imaginably filthy and hungry.
3. "Criss Angel . . ."- Which actor played the once famous magician Jay?

Answer: Barry Bostwick

The Winchesters arrived in Souix City, Iowa in time to witness a gathering of magicians, including a Criss Angelesque tool named Jeb Dexter. Jay had once been quite famous in his own right, but now felt like a washed up old man. He and his two friends, all magicians, watched the newest crop of youngsters wowing audiences and felt the enormity of their "has been" statuses. So, Jay decided to perform one last dangerous illusion for the crowd.

He told his friends if he died doing it, that at least he'd have a big headline. Barry played Mayor Winston for several seasons of the series "Spin City". I believe I first spotted him on a TV movie back in the wee hours of the 1980s.
4. "Criss Angel . . ."- Which of Jay's friends was the culprit behind the real magic that was killing other magicians?

Answer: Charlie

Charlie was played by John Rubenstein, who can always play a great villain. Younger Charlie was played by Michael Weston, who can always play a selfish person with raging immorality. Charlie had performed a spell, found in "The Grimoire" that he claimed was passed down to him from another famous magician.

It gave Charlie immortality, which he in turn offered to both Jay and Vernon. Sam and Dean came to stop it, so Charlie threatened their lives. This caused Jay to make a hard choice and he killed Charlie. Jay was unsure of his choice afterward, and left Sam and Dean in despair.
5. "Afterschool Special"- The episode revolved around teens at Truman High School in Fairfax, Indiana. As seen on screen, what year did Dean and Sam attend the same school for a brief period of time?

Answer: 1997

The brothers were dropped off in the Impala, presumably by their father John. Dean mentioned a couple of times that they wouldn't be in the school long, and John would be back soon. John was most likely off on a supernatural mission of some sort, but apparently trying to maintain the boys some sort of education.

This was Dean and Sam's third school that year, but this one left an impression on young Sam.
6. "Afterschool Special"- Who was the bully that Sam repeatedly tried to avoid an altercation with, but ultimately had to beat up when he attended school at Truman?

Answer: Dirk

Dirk, as Sam learned in 2009, had lost his mother not long before the Winchesters attended school there in 1997. He lashed out, in true bully form, at kids that appeared weaker than he was, in order to alleviate some of his grief. He died at 18, of excessive partying and the like, and his dad saved a lock of his hair in a bible.

While in school at Truman, Sam made friends with a weaker kid named Barry. Dean and Sam thought it was Barry haunting the school, after they found out he'd died of a suicide in 1998.

They burned Barry's body to bind his ghost, but he wasn't the one haunting the school.. it was Dirk.
7. "Afterschool Special"- In order to infiltrate the school in 2009, Dean posed as a _____ and Sam posed as a _____.

Answer: Gym teacher and janitor

Dean called himself Mr. Roth (as in David Lee Roth). Sam posed as a janitor and met up with the man who inspired him to be a writer- Mr. Wyatt. Colin Ford played young Sam, Brock Kelly played young Dean and Chad Willet played Mr. Wyatt.
8. "Sex and Violence"- What type of supernatural being was the cause of all the recent murderous acts in Bedford, Iowa?

Answer: siren

The siren took the form of four strippers, named Jasmine, Aurora, Ariel and Belle. These are also names of Disney heroines. It caused the men to kill the women in their lives they were closest to, and that made it feel powerful. The term of siren had to be the more general one, of a highly seductive woman.

The true supernatural term of siren refers to a half bird half woman being that sings sailors to their deaths.
9. "Sex and Violence"- How did the demon infect its victims?

Answer: with its saliva

When Sam's affections turned toward the attractive young doctor, Cara Roberts, Dean became convinced he was under the influence of the siren/demon. The doctor had a special flower in her office, a hyacinth, that was the leading clue to her being the siren.

It also seemed suspicious when two vials of blood needed to further investigate the crimes turned up missing under her watch. But, it wasn't Dr. Roberts. The siren had a knack for giving a man just what appealed to him most, and showed up to seduce Dean.

When he drank from a saliva infected flask, the siren revealed itself to him.
10. "Sex and Violence"- What did the siren offer Dean, that he wanted most at that moment?

Answer: a younger brother who looked up to him

It first appeared at the hospital as an FBI agent. The men had him call Bobby, who acted as their FBI superior. Then, more and more often, the siren deferred his judgment for Dean's, which Sam had not done in a long time. Sam had grown up and made some character changes during Dean's time in hell, one of which was not deferring to Dean's point of view all the time.

He was a man who could, and did, take care of himself. Dean had found himself missing his younger, awestruck, brother and the siren gave him just that. Though, when the two of them met up the siren set the two of them off against each other. Bobby showed up to save the day, just before Sam did away with Dean.
