Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Lazarus Rising"- The season four opener showed Dean climb out of his own grave.

Answer: True

Dean awoke after being in Hell for four months inside a wooden casket. It was unclear how he was able to bust through six feet's worth of dirt and get out. I thought for a moment maybe it was not that deep, since it was obviously hand dug, but Dean mentioned it being six feet deep to Bobby. Bobby didn't correct it, so I guess it was that deep.

When he stood up and looked around, all the trees around his grave had been laid over as though a pyroclastic blast had come through the area. Dean then walked to a nearby store and raided it for supplies.

When he tried to call Sam, the cellphone had been disconnected. So, he called Bobby twice, and then hot wired a car and drove to Bobby's house. Bobby tried to kill him several times, assuming he was either a demon Dean or a demon had shifted into Dean's appearance.

When he was able to convince Bobby who he really was, they went looking for Sam.
2. "Lazarus Rising"- What did Castiel leave on Dean as proof a powerful being had dragged him back from Hell?

Answer: a burn in the shape of his right hand

The burned hand print was on Dean's left upper arm. After trying to communicate with Dean twice on his own (in the store and in the motel), Castiel realized his voice was too powerful for Dean to hear. The men tried to do a seance to discover the identity of the demon who brought Dean out of Hell, but the poor psychic had her eyes burned out when she saw Castiel in his true form. So, Dean took advantage of Sam's late night disappearance to invoke the being who'd saved him.

It turned out that Castiel was not a demon at all, but an angel of God sent to retrieve Dean from his demonic prison.

At least, that is what Castiel (now in a borrowed human visage) reported to Dean. Misha Collins played the angel Castiel.
3. "Lazarus Rising"- Did we find out that Ruby was still alive?

Answer: Yes

Sam told Dean that Ruby had died at Lilith's hands in the season three finale. He also reported that he'd somehow been immune to Lilith's white energy blast and that it has scared her so badly she fled the scene. The truth was that Ruby was alive and well, and housed in the body of actress Genevieve Cortese.

She was using the name Kristy, probably that of the body's previous owner. But, at the end of the episode Sam called her Ruby and they talked about the plan they were keeping secret from Bobby and Dean. And, Sam also revealed that he still had the power to remove a demon from its human host.

The special talent hadn't ended with his removal of Lilith from Ruby's previous human form.
4. "Are You There God? It's Me, Dean Winchester"- In this episode, number two of the season, hunters were being killed off by the disembodied spirits of former lovers.

Answer: False

Lilith had opened a seal, which released people that hunters couldn't save. These people were NOT ghosts, had fully abled bodies and could hurt the men without much of an effort. We saw two hunters killed on screen before the men realized something was up.

The second hunter was a close friend of Bobby's, so when she didn't return his calls, the men investigated. Later, Bobby was tormented by the return of twin girls he'd been unable to save. Sam and Dean had to face Meg Masters and Agent Hendricksen.

They were able to perform a spell and end the visitations, and when Castiel arrived later he confirmed that Lilith had opened the seal to begin the End of Days. She wanted to bring forth her boss Lazarus, also known as Satan, the Devil, etc. If the men can stop Armageddon, what could possible come in season five?
5. "In the Beginning"- When Dean awakes on a park bench in the past he is back in his home town of Lawrence, Kansas. What is the date on the paper his dad is reading in Bert's Diner?

Answer: Monday April 30, 1973

I was three months old at that date! Dean didn't realize right away he was in the past. He tried to use his cellphone, but had no signal. He went into the diner and asked where he was of young John Winchester, who told him he was in Lawrence. He tried to use his phone again, and asked John where he may get reception and John jokingly stated "the USS Enterprise". Dean began to look around the diner when no one knew Sonny and Cher had split up, a clue he may not be in the same time he came from. He saw the style of dress, maybe noted the classic rock playing on the jukebox, and then read the date on "The Lawrence Herald". Someone walked into the diner as it all dawned on Dean, and called out "Hey Winchester".

Then the man told John it was good to have him home.

The headline on the paper read "Nixon Resigns Post". Other than the correct answer, all the dates (not days) are of my family members' birthdays.
6. "In the Beginning"- Dean discovered many things back in old 1973. Which was NOT one of the things?

Answer: His real father was a demon

John was going to buy a VW Van, but Dean talked him into the Impala. Mary Campbell came from a hunter family. Her parents were the namesakes for her children. Samuel and Deanna Winchester taught Mary to hunt, but it ended up being DEAN who drew Yellow Eyes to Mary.

He told his grandfather about Liddy, another of the demon's victims, and she was a friend of Mary's. Mary and Samuel went to Liddy's house to save her and Yellow Eyes saw the potential for her to birth one of his psychic kids. When Yellow Eyes was threatened by Dean and the Colt, he fled the body and ran to inhabit Samuel's body to gather intel.

Then he killed Samuel, Deanna, and finally John. Mary made a deal, in order to save John's life, and that is how it came to be that she died and Sam became one of his psychic kids. If she hadn't interrupted the blood offering when Sam was a baby, she'd have lived.
7. "In the Beginning"- When Dean first went back to 1973, Castiel told him he was there to stop something. Dean didn't learn what it was until he came back, what was it?

Answer: to stop Sam from fulfilling his evil destiny

Castiel explained that Mary's deal, Sam's interaction with Azazel (Yellow Eyes), and his grandparents' deaths was destiny. Those events could not be stopped or changed. It was Sam's destiny that was in question. When Dean went back, he learned everything that had happened, which was also all that God and his army knew as well. Azazel told Dean, back in 1973, that his end game was big, but wouldn't reveal what it was. Castiel and God didn't know either, and needed Dean to find out and stop Sam from the dangerous path he was on. Dean could never accept this mission without knowing what had set the entire thing in motion. Castiel warned, just before the episode ended, that if Dean couldn't stop Sam, they would.
8. "Metamorphosis"- Who was the man transforming into a flesh eating monster?

Answer: Jack

Jack Montgomery was transforming into some kind of monster. His first symptoms were a ravenous hunger, followed by some intense physical pain, and then more hunger. Sam and Dean were sent to Missouri to investigate him by another hunter named Travis. This was just after Dean discovered Sam and Ruby's secret mission and that Sam was using his mind to exorcise demons back to Hell. Dameon Clarke played Jack, and Ron Lea played Travis.
9. "Metamorphosis"- What kind of beast is the man transforming into?

Answer: rugaru

Travis informed the men that Jack had a family history of rugaru infestation. The hunger is the first symptom to present, but once the human feeds on another human, the transformation happens quickly. There is no changing back once this occurs, so the only way to stop it is to prevent the man from eating another human. Jack's father was a dentist in 1978, when he was turned. Travis said that the man killed eight people before he could stop him.

At the time it all happened, Jack's mother was pregnant with him.

She placed him for adoption after he was born, so Travis didn't find Jack for years.
10. "Metamorphosis"- Were Sam and Dean able to save Jack and Travis?

Answer: No

Jack killed Travis, which completed his turn into a rugaru. Then, Sam was forced to burn Jack to save Dean. Michelle, Jack's wife, did escape with their unborn child.
