Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first Road Block of the race appeared in Leg 2.

Answer: True

At the end of Leg 2, teams made their way seventy miles out of Buenos Aires to the town of San Antonio de Areco. Here, at La Estancia La Invernada, teams finished their first Road Block in which one member of each team needed to participate in a local game of ribbon roping. For this, a member chosen with quick hands and quick feet would need to hop into the corral, and without tackling the cattle, take a bandanna from around their neck. Once this was received, their clue would be given to them by a gaucho. Mirna, Brandon, Marsha, Karen, Bob, Colin, Lance, Chip, Kami, and Donny all finished this task.

After, everyone hopped in a horse carriage and trotted two miles to the second Pit Stop.
2. In Leg 3, team members performing a Road Block in Argentina had to eat which of these foods?

Answer: Chocolate

Arriving in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche, teams were instructed to head to a local chocolate factory whereupon they were told to choose one member with a sweet tooth. Said member was required to head into the factory and eat from several tables of chocolates until they found one of several with a white center.

This, in some cases, took a very long time. After the Road Block, teams headed to the hills of Bariloche to perform the Detour task.
3. Another delicious food challenge, where did team members need to eat caviar for a Road Block in Leg 4?

Answer: Russia

In Leg 4, teams flew to St. Petersburg, Russia and headed to Pushkin to enjoy dinner at the Old Tower Restaurant. Here, a player who enjoyed the lap of luxury was chosen to complete the task during which they would have to endure a full kilogram of caviar before moving on to the Pit Stop for the leg, Catherine's Palace. Unsurprisingly, Chip (who excelled in the food-based Road Blocks of the race) was able to breeze by the women who completed the task unaware of what was actually involved. Oddly, it wouldn't be the last of the crazy food challenges in this season of the show.
4. In Egypt in Leg 5, teams had to head to Giza for the Road Block where they received which of these?

Answer: Puzzle pieces

To complete the Road Block of Leg 5, teams needed to make their way through Cairo to the Giza Plateau whereupon their clue would lead them to the Osiris Shaft in the pyramid complex. Here, one member of each team needed to descend 140 feet into the shaft (via ladders) and retrieve a satchel of puzzle pieces from within the chamber below. Once back up top, they would receive their next clue and a map and with this they would need to construct the puzzle on top of it. Doing this would allow the players to locate a specific point at which they could find their next clue box (on one of the pyramids).
5. In Leg 6, teams continued through Egypt. Which team quit the race at the Road Block task?

Answer: Marshall and Lance

Making their way through Egypt, teams found themselves at the Habu Temple in Luxor. Here, teams were required to choose one member to head to a marked segment of sand and use tools to dig in the area for a carving of a scarab. Without knowing how deep to dig, many team members ended up hauling sand for hours until they found the item they were asked to locate. Marshall and Lance, who arrived at the Road Block task in last place, were unable to finish due to Marshall's prior leg injury and decided to sit it out. Phil met them at the Road Block task and informed them that they would have arrived at the mat in last and had been eliminated.
6. In Leg 7 in Tanzania, team members completed an eating task for the Road Block.

Answer: True

In a season of cultural fare, team members made their way from Egypt to Tanzania. Upon arriving at the village of Kibaoni, teams found the Road Block at a local hotel and discovered that one team member needed to prepare and eat an entire ostrich egg.

This began with cracking it open and cooking it and ended with the equivalent of devouring several regular eggs. Once again, Chip mastered the eating challenge, just as he powered through the caviar in Russia. After the Road Block, teams took a zipline to Lake Manyara Lookout and the Pit Stop.
7. In Leg 9, teams traveled to India. How many clay bricks did team members need to create for the Road Block?

Answer: Twenty

In Kolkata, India, teams needed to locate the Globe Brick Factory (in Garia) to find their next clue, the Road Block task. Here, teams needed to select one member who would use a mold and create twenty proper bricks. These would be judged by one of the workers. If a brick were unusable, they would need to keep going until the system worked for them.

After this task, teams headed (via train) to Sealdah Station in Kolkata to find their Detour task.
8. In Leg 10 in New Zealand, which team member performed the Zorbing Road Block Task?

Answer: Karen

In Leg 10, teams proceeded to New Zealand and, inevitably, Matapara Farms outside Rotorua. Here, teams needed to select one member each to perform a task within a large, plastic Zorb Ball, a creation that acts like a huge hamster ball to hop inside. One team members rolled down a hill and over across a finish line, they could make their way to the Pit Stop atop a nearby hill. Kami and Karli were the last to finish the Road Block task and were eliminated from the race as a result.
9. In Leg 11, the Road Block instructions did not ask for which of these traits from its participants?

Answer: Strong stomach

Departing from the Pit Stop in Leg 11, teams drove 220 miles from Matapara Farms to Auckland, New Zealand to find the Road Block clue waiting in Westhaven Marina aboard a boat known as the Hydroflow. Once receiving this, one team member would need to head out onto the water, climb a rope onto the girders below the Auckland Harbour Bridge, and cross the narrow beams beneath the busy roadway to receive their next clue. Once they dropped back down into the boat, they would be told to make their way to Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. Colin, Brandon, Chip, and Linda completed the Road Block for this leg of the race.
10. Who was the last person to finish the final Road Block of the race in the Philippines in Leg 12?

Answer: Karen

In Leg 12, teams continued onward to El Nido in the Philippines where they came across one of the most grueling Road Blocks yet. In the end of the leg, all four teams needed to choose one member to climb a rock wall using a technique known as ascending, essentially pulling yourself up a wall with a harness system on a thick cable.

This draining Road Block would be the final one to air in the race (with an additional one in Banff, Canada not airing) and it would spell the fate of the final eliminated team: Linda and Karen.
