Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does the Doctor fight Robin Hood with?

Answer: A spoon

After emerging from the TARDIS, the Doctor declares that there's "no damsels in distress, no pretty castles, no such thing as Robin Hood." Suddenly, an arrow embeds itself in the TARDIS, startling the Doctor. Robin Hood then reveals himself, and the two have a brief verbal exchange (mostly trading insults) before Robin draws his sword and the two begin swordfighting (although the Doctor chooses to brandish a spoon).
2. Still dubious in the presence of Robin and his Merry Men, where does the Doctor think he and Clara are?

Answer: Inside a miniscope

The Doctor, convinced that something is amiss, examines the Merry Men for any sign that they can't be real. This includes studying a lock of Will Scarlet's hair with the sonic screwdriver, telling Friar Tuck his sandal isn't real (before sniffing it and realising it is), and analysing a blood sample of Alan-a-Dale.

The Doctor then begins to ask for a urine sample, before Clara takes him aside and asks him what he's doing. He explains that they're not holograms, but they might be at a theme park from the future or stuck inside a miniscope.

The mention of a miniscope is a reference to "Carnival of Monsters", a Third Doctor episode from 1973, in which miniscopes had miniaturised creatures inside and were used as attractions at the carnival.
3. What is the prize in the archery contest?

Answer: A golden arrow

As Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham are the last two contestants, Robin offers to make it a bit more interesting by having the target moved further back. The Sheriff agrees and hits the bullseye. Robin also does so and manages to split the Sheriff's arrow. Robin is declared the winner and goes to receive his prize. Out of nowhere, the Doctor turns up and fires an arrow into the bullseye, splitting Robin's arrow.

He is then declared the best archer and takes the golden arrow as his prize, but throws it away as a mere "bauble".

Instead, he wants "enlightenment" from the Sheriff. Before either can say anything, Robin hits another bullseye. Not to be outdone, the Doctor shoots a trick shot, deflecting his fired arrow off an armoured guard and straight into the middle of the target. Robin coolly responds by hitting yet another bullseye without even looking at it. Fed up, the Doctor ends the contest by blowing up the target with a blast of the sonic screwdriver.
4. Who gets taken from the dungeon to be questioned by the Sheriff?

Answer: Clara

Clearly disliking each other, the Doctor and Robin argue with one another about who saved who and who got them imprisoned. Clara bellows at them to shut them up. They then argue over whose plan will free them. Clara interjects again, pointing out that the Doctor's sonic screwdriver was taken by the Sheriff so his plan can't involve that.

A guard then enters and says he has been sent to see which of the three is the "true ringleader". Each convinced that they are the ringleader, the Doctor and Robin argue again, but the guard instead unshackles Clara and leads her out of the cell to the Sheriff.
5. What effect is the leaking radiation from the robots' ship having on the environment?

Answer: It is making it unseasonably sunny

When the Doctor first arrives in Sherwood Forest, he asks what season it is and wonders why it is so green and summery. Robin tells him that they're in autumn. Clara offers her own suggestion of climate change, but seeing as it is only the year 1190, the Doctor shrugs it off.

When he and Robin later find the spaceship in the castle and the leaking engines, he notes that it has created "a temporary climate of staggering benevolence". In other words, it's too sunny.
6. How do the Doctor and the labourers defeat the robotic knights?

Answer: By deflecting their laser attacks

After he is knocked out and taken to the depths of the castle, the Doctor hatches a plan with the rest of the labourers to use the vast amount of gold around them to their advantage. The guards are provoked and their laser attacks are reflected back at them, thanks to golden plates held by each person.

When the Sheriff arrives with his guards, they aren't defeated in the same way. Instead, the Sheriff powers them down himself using a control in his necklace in order to fight Robin himself.
7. How does the Sheriff meet his end?

Answer: He falls into a vat of molten gold

In their final showdown, Robin and the Sheriff engage in a swordfight. The pair cut ropes and ascend to continue the fight on a beam, high above the vat where the gold is being melted. The Sheriff disarms Robin and, remembering his fight with the Doctor earlier, pretends to be defeated and holds his hands out.

The Sheriff lunges and Robin twists around him, putting him off-balance and sending him falling down in the superheated gold below. As the castle begins to crumble, the Sheriff's gold-coated hands can be seen in a failed attempt to escape from the vat.
8. What happens to the spaceship after it flies out of the castle?

Answer: It blows up outside the Earth's atmosphere

As it flies into the air, the Doctor realises it still hasn't got enough gold power to leave the Earth's atmosphere. Thinking quickly, the Doctor asks for the golden arrow and together he, Clara and Robin fire the arrow into the spaceship, giving it a brief surge of power to get it up into space and "out of harm's way".

The ship's engines reach critical levels and it explodes, leaving Robin and his Merry Men to celebrate their victory.
9. Who is standing behind the TARDIS as it dematerialises?

Answer: Marian

As the Doctor bids Robin farewell and enters the TARDIS, Clara tries to get him to say that he likes Robin. The Doctor replies with, "I'm leaving him a present, aren't I?". As the TARDIS disappears, a woman is revealed to have been standing behind it. Robin looks on in amazement as he realises it is his long lost lover, Marian.

The pair embrace before Robin shouts words of thanks to where the Doctor used to be, before firing an arrow into the sky in jubilation.
10. Which British actor and comedian plays the Sheriff of Nottingham?

Answer: Ben Miller

The first time we see the Sheriff, his men are plundering a small village for its gold and any person in a fit-enough state for labour. Later on, it is revealed that all the gold being collected is to be melted down and formed into great circuit-like panels to re-power the dormant and damaged spaceship hidden inside the castle.

In his exchange with Clara, the Sheriff tells of how the spaceship crashed one night, with the robotic pilots looking to him as a leader who could help them. In return, the Sheriff wants to fly to London to kill the king and take his "rightful place as ruler of this sceptred isle".
