Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Olivia was a child, she experienced a storm where what fell from the sky?

Answer: Stones

Before the storm, Hugh woke Olivia up from a nap on the couch, both of the twins were sleeping with her. She told Hugh she wished she could keep them frozen in time forever. She didn't even notice as he lifted Luke from her arms. After the storm, Olivia headed out into the hallway to find Mrs. Dudley cleaning the glass from the broken windows. Olivia was surprised to have slept through the storm since she hated them so much. Mrs. Dudley, who loved the relaxing nature of storms, wished her daughter would like them more. Olivia recounted a memory from her childhood when, during a horrible storm, she witnessed black stones falling from the sky.

It stopped as fast as it started. She always believed she brought it on after her father's death.
2. According to Luke, where did Abigail live?

Answer: The woods

Olivia, sitting down in the study with a pot of tea, picked up a book and took a relaxing moment to read. Sipping at her drink, however, she felt the immediate pain of a migraine and headed downstairs, passing a clock repairman along the way. While fetching medication from the kitchen, she came across Shirley and Luke arguing about Luke giving clothes away to Abigail, the girl who lived in the woods. Shirley reminded him that she wasn't real and Olivia simply stated he couldn't give her things away. Olivia headed back upstairs to her reading room...but opened the door to find a morgue.
3. When Olivia had the vision of the morgue, whose bodies did she find there?

Answer: The twins

When Olivia stepped into the morgue, she didn't know it was from the basement of Shirley's future funeral home. She stepped forward to find an adult Nell lying on the slab before her and, in shock, she turned around to see Luke's body, dead of an overdose, lying on the floor. Behind her, Nell rose from her slab and grabbed a pair of scissors, cutting her lips open to cry for her mother. Olivia, fell out of her vision when she collapsed to the ground.

She told Hugh what she saw that night, in bed, and he believed it to be a dream she had dozing while reading. At this point, Olivia's headaches were almost constant.
4. According to Poppy Hill, what is a 'screaming meemie'?

Answer: A bad dream

The night after her vision, Olivia woke up from her sleep to see someone creeping around the bedroom door frame. She tried to wake Hugh, insisting someone was in the house, but when he didn't wake up she looked out into the hall herself. She didn't know that whoever it was was standing next to the bed, looking over her husband.

When the figure left the room, it motioned her to the sitting room claiming it used to be her own drawing room and then a nursery. Olivia, confused about this dream, engages with the woman, discussing her fears of losing her children.

The woman lost her little girl once; she choked and died. Her little boy died, losing the ability to move and see over time. But it was a dream, a 'screaming meemie'. Olivia, looking over her own twins, couldn't see the woman's true form.

The woman asked her, what if her own kids had their own bad dreams, the worst 'screaming meemies', that they couldn't wake up from? The woman, who Olivia doesn't recognize as Poppy Hill, whispers the plan in her ear.
5. Olivia admitted to Hugh that it was a good idea for her to leave the house.

Answer: True

Olivia only broke out of her dream with Poppy when Hugh stopped her from holding a screwdriver to his neck. This event, coupled with Olivia's migraines and the confusing mess she made of the blueprints, forced her to agree that time away from the house with Janet was necessary.

The next day, she descended into the house despite the migraine, through the workers. In the migraine, she had a vision that she tucked the twins in, and before the slept, the two spoke of their dream where Nell was send into the dark forever and Luke died of poison in his body. Steven found her there, in the twins' room, seemingly talking to nobody.
6. Why did Mrs. Dudley agree to work at Hill House once again?

Answer: Because she heard a family was moving in

Mrs. Dudley found Olivia off on her own after the vision when she was bringing paint supplies up to Steven (for the vanity table). Olivia asked Mrs. Dudley if she homeschooled her children (she did), and she agreed that it was a good idea. She worried that when she looked at her little ones right now she felt afraid. Perhaps it was just anxiety. Fortunately, Hugh kept her grounded; maybe the kids were safe. Mrs. Dudley disagreed; if she felt her kids were unsafe, then she needed to follow her gut because they were hers.

The Crains hoped to be out by the end of August, but the mold issue was likely to delay them. Mrs. Dudley thought Olivia should be out sooner than that. The house was a strange house and her own child was not allowed to step foot on the property. Honestly, she didn't even want to work at the house again.

She only did because a family was moving in and she would work in the daylight to keep an eye on them-- the twins were the same age as her child. Olivia told her she would be leaving on Monday for Janet's. Mrs. Dudley said she would pray for her and her family in this house.
7. What did Olivia believe she saw in the vanity mirror?

Answer: Her children

When Steven finally revealed the vanity table to Olivia she took a seat in front of it and promised that she was only going to go away for a short time. When she looked into the mirror, however, she punched into it because she saw the adult apparitions of Nell and Luke sitting behind her. That night, Hugh asked what she needed and Olivia admitted she needed help; she wasn't herself.

He reasoned it was probably stress, but Olivia knew it wasn't quite that. She felt stressed when they came to the house but all of the colour has drained from her; she's only scared now.

When she asked if he felt something was really wrong with her, he simply suggested she should leave sooner for Janet's. She would instead leave first thing in the morning. She said goodbye to the family, jokingly allowed Luke to have a sleepover with Abigail in her absence, hopped into a cab, and departed.
8. Olivia never made it to Aunt Janet's. Where did she go instead?

Answer: A motel

After Olivia left, Hugh pulled the plastic back from the basement wall to discover that the mold he had been treating had actually gotten worse over the days despite his use of high-grade chemicals to treat the spread. He spoke with Olivia on the phone shortly after, asking if her flight to Janet's went smoothly.

She admitted it did, but this was a lie. Instead of taking the cab to the airport, she took it to a nearby motel, the same one her family would soon check into. He suggested calling back when the kids were asleep.

Instead, she returned in a cab, arriving at the house when Hugh was passed out on the couch. Instead of waking him, she wearily descended into the basement, grabbed a bottle of rat poison, and headed to the kitchen.
9. How many children drank Olivia's poisoned tea?

Answer: One

Shirley, awake in the middle of the night, headed to the kitchen to get herself something to eat only to find that her mother had returned without telling the family. There Olivia, making tea, asked if Shirley was dreaming too before suggesting she go to bed. Bringing the tea upstairs, she woke Nell and Luke and, to Olivia's surprise, Abigail, who she forgot was spending the night.

There for a surprise tea party, Olivia led the three young children through the halls to the red room, the door of which was opened. Nell exclaimed that she must have found the key.

She didn't; they were the key the whole time. That was when Shirley woke her father. In the red room, Abigail worried that her own mother would worry about her, but Olivia reassured her that their tea party was actually to ensure that all of them would be safe. Down in the kitchen, Hugh found the rat poison on the countertop and raced upstairs to find the twins missing and the tea already served. Abigail, who had already had a sip of hers, already started to choke on the poison, but he was able to sweep the rest off the table before Olivia or the twins could drink.

He pushed Olivia against the wall, causing the contusion, before she fell unconscious.
10. Olivia ultimately committed suicide, but for what reason?

Answer: She wanted to wake up

When Olivia came to, she was still on the floor of the mold-covered red room; Abigail remained dead on the ground but the twins were nowhere to be seen. Hugh gathered most of the children and placed them out in the car before going back for Steven. Outside, Luke saw Abigail staring out from the upstairs window; inside, Hugh saw the ghosts of the house waiting for him to make a move. He gathered his eldest son and told him to keep his eyes shut as he carried him through the house. Olivia reached Steven's door just as Hugh was on the other side. Poppy, by Olivia's side, warned her that Hugh was trying to take them all away from her. They raced out to the car and drove off while Olivia watched on, reminded by the spectres that he was taking them away to more nightmares.
Olivia returned to the red room to find Abigail's dead body. Realizing what she did, she looked on to see the girl's ghost before her being led down the hall. Olivia could only ask if she was awake now.
She stumbled out to the library and to the top of the spiral stairs where, pulling herself along the bannister, she came to the conclusion that Hugh was killing the children. Poppy told her all she needed to do to stop the screaming meemie was wake up and find the children safe in their beds. And so she jumped.

When the Crains stepped into the house for the first time, they were optimistic knowing their dreams of flipping the house for a summer would lead to adventure. The kids raced upstairs to find their rooms while Olivia watched on. All she told Hugh was "you guys go on without me."
