The character's backstory was that he was trying to break out on his own after being known as Superman's friend while in Metropolis. He moved to National City and took a job at Catco. 5. Martian Manhunter

The Martian Manhunter is a shape shifter who is also referred to as both J'onn J'onzz and Hank Henshaw.
Henshaw was the leader of the DEO, but had died in an accident in Peru years before the pilot episode. The Manhunter assumed his identity at that time.

Schott is Supergirl's best friend in the pilot, and a computer expert at CatCo. in season one. In season two he took a job working directly with the DEO. His father is the villain known as the Toyman, that was addressed in a season one episode.

Gustin stars on "The Flash" television series as the titular character. He's appeared in several crossover episodes of "Supergirl" and also on "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Arrow" as the same character. Barry Allen is one of several characters from those various series to crossover on the other series'. Gustin was also a cast member on "Glee" against Melissa Benoist before getting his own series.
8. Cat Grant

Flockhart served as Kara Danvers mentor and boss in the first season. Kara was her assistant until the end of the first season. Early in the second season she left the show. The character claimed there wasn't anything else to prove there and she had to move on.
9. Lena Luthor

Lena Luthor didn't appear at all in the first season. The Luthor family, minus the most famous member - Lex, appeared in several season two episodes. Lena Luthor became the CEO of Lex Corp, and changed the name to L-Corp, while her mother ended up running Cadmus Labs and served as one of the villains of the season.
10. Jeremiah Danvers

Cain had played Superman/Clark Kent on "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" in the 1990s. He also had a guest role on "Smallville". This was the third different Superman-related series he had acted in. The character's wife (Eliza) was played by Helen Slater, who had previously played Supergirl in a live action movie.
