Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A is for this show about Bostonian lawyers that featured a dancing naked baby. What drama-comedy was it?

Answer: Ally McBeal

"Ally McBeal" aired on FOX 1997-2002 and starred Calista Flockhart as a lawyer working in a Boston law firm. It was created by David E. Kelley who also produced other legal shows such as "L.A. Law", "The Practice", and "Boston Legal".
2. B is for the series about a trucker and his pet chimpanzee. What show could this be?

Answer: B.J. and the Bear

"B.J. and the Bear" ran on NBC 1979-1981 and starred Greg Evigan as a trucker getting into mischief and solving problems, a chimp named Bear by his side. This was likely inspired by another primate-buddy pair, Clint Eastwood and his sidekick, Clyde, an orangutan, in the movie "Every Which Way But Loose" from 1978.
3. C is for this hospital drama set in a major American city. What one-hour show was it?

Answer: Chicago Hope

In the fall of 1994, CBS launched "Chicago Hope" at the same time NBC launched "ER", both hospital dramas set in Chicago. Although "Chicago Hope" did fair well, "ER" had George Clooney and soundly beat "CH" in the ratings. Nevertheless, "Chicago Hope" won many awards, including Best Lead Actor in a Drama for star Mandy Patinkin.
4. D is for this oddly-matched married couple in San Francisco. His parents were snooty, hers were hippies. Hilarity ensued. What half-hour show was it?

Answer: Dharma & Greg

Yoga instructor Dharma and conservative attorney Greg came from different backgrounds but fell in love and married after one date. "Dharma and Greg" was created by producer Chuck Lorre, who went on to offer "Two and a Half Men", "Mike and Molly", and "The Big Bang Theory".
5. E is for the show vehicle for comedian Ray Romano, about a sportswriter with a wife and children living near his parents. What sitcom was this?

Answer: Everybody Loves Raymond

"Everybody Loves Raymond" ran on CBS 1996-2005. The premise was that Debra encouraged Ray to buy the house across from his parents' on Long Island, despite his protests. Since Debra took the brunt of mother-in-law Marie's manipulative ways, I'm sure Debra came to regret the move, too.
6. F is for _____________, about nerds and stoners in the 1980s. What dramedy was this?

Answer: Freaks and Geeks

Although critically acclaimed, NBC's "Freaks and Geeks" lasted just one season, largely in part because Fox TV kept scheduling "That '70s Show" against "Freaks and Geeks" and apparently viewers preferred the '70s to the '80s. But "Freaks" retained a cult following, and launched the careers of Linda Cardellini, Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Jason Segel.
7. This is a hard one. G is for this CBS show starring Simon Baker (later star of "The Mentalist") as a troubled attorney and veteran actor Dabney Coleman as his father. What was it called?

Answer: The Guardian

"The Guardian" received high critical praise as it covered the story of Nick Fallin, an attorney with a drug problem sentenced to serve community service at a free law clinic. The show highlighted the strained relationship between father and son, as the father was the head of a major corporate law firm.
8. Lily, Marshall, Robin, Barney, and Ted. "H" is for this show about friends loving and living in New York, and in particular one's pursuit of a soul mate. Can you name it?

Answer: How I Met Your Mother

"How I Met Your Mother" is the loooonnnngggg story of Ted Mosby who dates constantly in search of The One. There's a frame story where Ted, in the future, is telling the story to his teenage kids of how he met their mother. Ted hangs around with his best friend from college, Marshall, and Marshall's wife, Lily, ex-girlfriend Robin Sherbasky, and dating phenom Barney.
9. I is for this half-hour HBO show about psychologist Paul Weston, played by Gabriel Byrne, and covers Paul's life as well as his sessions with patients. What was the name of this half-hour show?

Answer: In Treatment

"In Treatment" ran on HBO for three seasons between 2009-2011. Each episode covered one treatment session for one of Paul's clients or Paul's session with his own therapist, Gina. Paul's clients included troubled couples, a suicidal teenage gymnast, a successful actor dealing with her sister's terminal illness, and a widower, among others.

In the final season, he saw another therapist of his own, Adele, with whom he seemed to fall in love.
10. J is for this show starring Amy Brenneman as a single mother and attorney who left New York to return to live with her mother in Hartford, Connecticut. What dramedy was it?

Answer: Judging Amy

"Judging Amy" ran on CBS 1999-2005. It covered both Amy's personal life with her daughter, mother, siblings, and boyfriends, and her work as a judge in family court making difficult decisions for children. Her mother was played by Tyne Daly who won several Emmy awards when she played a police detective Mary Beth Lacey on "Cagney and Lacey".
