Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the second half of their Mega-Leg, teams raced in India, but did they remain in the city of Hyderabad?

Answer: Yes

Leaving Almaty in Leg 7 teams were warned that their eighth leg would be the first-ever Mega-Leg of "The Amazing Race", forcing them to complete double the tasks of a regular leg of the race. It was because of this that teams headed to Hyderabad, India and commenced a series of tough challenges, ending up at the Qutb Shahi Tombs only to finish their challenges and dive directly into another task. Once teams finished their first Road Block, they were handed another clue and told to keep racing, this time by auto-rickshaw to Charminar.
2. Teams faced a Blind Detour in India. Both options were completed equally.

Answer: True

When teams found the clue box at Charminar they found a Detour before them, but this one was the rare Blind Detour, allowing them to choose one of two tasks without knowing what was involved. Instead, they could choose 'This' or 'That'. In 'This', teams headed into the nearby Laad Bazaar and transported a cart full of bangles to a specific stall inside.

There, they had to search their cart for seven bangles to match a waiting bride. In 'That', teams headed instead to Iqbal Dentist to mold and then fit a pair of dentures for waiting patients. Three teams finished 'This' and three finished 'That'.
3. Who used the final Yield of the race?

Answer: Riley and Maddison

Once teams wrapped up their Blind Detour options they grabbed their next clue and travelled by auto-rickshaw to Taj Falaknuma Palace, the location where they would inevitably be wrapping up their Mega-Leg, but first they had a few challenges and race mechanics to get out of the way.

The first of these was a task that had them travel by horse and buggy, but not before dressing in traditional outfits. Then, teams encountered the final Yield of the race, which awaited teams at the end of their ride.

It was Riley and Maddison who used this last opportunity, placing their twenty-minute hourglass at the station for Kaylynn and Haley to flip over.
4. The last task of the Mega-Leg was a Road Block task that asked one member to replace Indian place settings. How many settings did they need to place?

Answer: Ten

After passing the Yield, teams found another Road Block task to round out the Mega-Leg, this one asking for someone to 'set things straight'. In this task, the chosen team members needed to head into the royal palace and find the longest dining table in all of India.

Here, they had to prepare the table for dinner by selecting a painting from the walls of the dining hall and replicating its place settings to the exacting standards of the palace staff to get their next clue. If they finished ten identical settings, they'd get a pass. Riley, Gary, James, Aparna, Hung, and Haley completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 8 at the end of the Mega-Leg in India?

Answer: Kaylynn and Haley

After teams wrapped up their Road Block tasks they were instructed to bring an end to their double-length leg by heading on foot to the next Pit Stop in the southeast gardens of Taj Falaknuma Palace. Riley and Maddison, leading for the entire second half of the Mega-Leg, managed to take the win-- their second of the race-- and a trip for two from Travelocity to Sint Maarten for a week-long cruise.

The last to arrive, after being Yielded twice during the course of the Mega-Leg, was Kaylynn and Haley.

After two earlier non-eliminations, this marked the end of their good luck and they were sent home in sixth place.
6. The ninth leg of the race took teams to what Cambodian city?

Answer: Siem Reap

Leaving Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, teams left onto their ninth leg by taking a ride to the airport and flying to the city of Siem Reap in Central Cambodia, a trip more than three thousand miles east. Upon landing they needed to find their Travelocity Roaming Gnome, their travel partner for this leg of the race, and bring him along to the Pit Stop.

The gnome would be waiting for them at the market at Psah Chas, waiting in a tuk-tuk along with a basket of supplies they would need for the remainder of the leg.

They then had to attach the tuk-tuk to a motorbike and ride to Chong Kneas Pier on the shores of Tonlé Sap to get their next clue.
7. Which of these four teams did not complete the 'Fish' Detour task in Cambodia in Leg 9?

Answer: Hung and Chee

At Tonlé Sap, teams hopped into a boat and made their way to the floating village of Chong Kneas to deliver their basket of donations to the monks at the Silat Tik Meas Buddhist Temple. This trade would result in their Detour clue for which they could choose either 'Fish' or 'Farm'. 'Fish', completed by DeAngelo and Gary, Riley and Maddison, and Eswar and Aparna, involved using a spindle to haul in a half-mile fishing net, gathering fifteen kilos of fish along the way, while 'Farm', completed by Hung and Chee and Will and James, involved planting a Cambodian floating garden.
8. The Double U-Turn found in Cambodia (in Leg 9) was effectively used on how many teams?

Answer: One

Completion of the Chong Kneas Village Detour task awarded teams with their next clue sending them to the village's floating restaurant to find the final Double U-Turn board of the race. Here, DeAngelo and Gary used the U-Turn on Eswar and Aparna to send them back to complete the 'Farm' Detour option. Riley and Maddison also used the board to U-Turn DeAngelo and Gary in a tactical maneuver, in turn nulling out the other slot; since the duo had already passed that point, it did not apply to them. Finishing up with this, teams could take their boats back to Chong Kneas Pier.
9. The Road Block teams encountered in Leg 9 (in Cambodia) forced racers to learn to make which of these local items?

Answer: Tiles

Back on the mainland, teams took their tuk-tuks and motorbikes to Khmer Floor Handicraft in Siem Reap to find their Road Block task. For this, one member of each team needed to 'fit the mold' by learning to make a handcrafted tile from an artisan workshop.

When they correctly made their tile without breaking it, they could commence a slide puzzle that would bear the image of the Travelocity Roaming Gnome. Only when that was completed would they get their next clue. This task was performed by Riley, DeAngelo, Chee, Will, and Eswar.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 9, checking into the Pit Stop in Cambodia?

Answer: Eswar and Aparna

As soon as they finished their Road Blocks, teams were instructed to make their way to the Eastern Gate at the ruins of Angkor Thom to check in at the next Pit Stop. Riley and Maddison won their third leg in a row (and fourth overall), this time taking the Travelocity prize, a trip for two to Bergen, Norway. Because they were victims of the Double U-Turn, Eswar and Aparna were last to check in and they became the first Mine Five team to be eliminated from the race.
