Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the Pigeon Point Jetty in Tobago, teams discovered that their first Road Block would involve playing the steel drum to what Caribbean tune?

Answer: Day-O

This thirty-second season of the race flew teams from the starting line in Los Angeles to the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. Teams started in Trinidad, spending an evening at a busy street carnival, before flying off to the idyllic Caribbean beaches of Trinidad where, in the first Road Block of the competition, teams had to learn how to play "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" on the steel pans.

At the end of the leg, teams were surprised by an unexpected 'keep-on-racing' clue and continued along the course but last place team, Nathan and Cody, still went home.
2. In the Nemocón Salt Mine in Colombia, teams collected hourglasses that they could utilize throughout the race with which long-dormant race mechanic?

Answer: Yield

Used on the race between seasons 5 and 11, the Yield forced teams to stay put if another team made use of the race mechanic before them. Once per race, teams could put this device to use on a team behind them, but if the team had already passed, it would be nulled out.

In this race, teams visited the Nemocón Salt Mine in Colombia to find ten and twenty minute hourglasses that they could bring with them around the world and, if they so chose, they could use them on Yields (once per race) to force another team to wait out their time. Once teams found their hourglasses, they stayed the night in the mine and then raced around in Bogotá.
3. In Leg 3, "The Amazing Race" had its first-ever visit to which location?

Answer: The Amazon Rainforest

It took thirty-two seasons before "The Amazing Race" took teams into the heart of the Amazon Rainforest as nine teams made their way to Manaus in the third leg of this season. Though teams started with a shopping trip in a Manaus market, they soon made their way by boat along the Rio Negro to the Tupé Reserve village of Dessana encountering the race's first Double U-Turn and Detour selection along the way.

The U-Turn ended up sealing the fate of father and son Jerry and Frank at the end of the leg.
4. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop at the Pont des Arts in Paris, France (in Leg 5)?

Answer: Michelle and Victoria

Teams faced new struggles in Leg 5 when they left South America and flew to chilly Europe, taking themselves on a self-driving leg through France in manual transmission vehicles. After heading to the French countryside and the beautiful town of Chantilly, teams returned to Paris proper and, inevitably, checked in at the fifth Pit Stop on the Pont des Arts on the River Seine.

Here, Riley and Maddison took first place, having led the entire leg, but Michelle and Victoria were last to check in after getting lost in Paris and were subsequently eliminated.
5. At the East Side Gallery in Berlin, Germany, teams found a clue waiting in which of these?

Answer: Suitcase

Seven teams raced from Paris to Berlin by train in Leg 6 and embarked on a night-time rush through the city in their own personal cars (worn-out Trabants), on foot, and in taxis. And while this leg could have proven frustrating for some teams, many managed to take on a frightening face-first rappel down the side of a hotel before taking on one of two detail-oriented Detour tasks (one involving singing and the other involving yoga) before checking into the second non-elimination Pit Stop of the race in Neukölln.
6. Leg 7 of the race sent teams to what Asian nation, where they checked into the Pit Stop at First President's Park?

Answer: Kazakhstan

Teams had a cold leg around the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan in Leg 7 as they joined the local film industry, assisted nomads in decorating their remote yurts, and visited local markets and bazaars en route to the Pit Stop. In this leg, not only did one team (Kaylynn and Haley) face a Speed Bump, but they overcame their challenges to Yield Leo and Alana and get them out of the race.
7. Which team was Yielded twice in the Mega-Leg in Hyderabad?

Answer: Kaylynn and Haley

Visiting the Indian city of Hyderabad in Leg 8, teams were told that they would be in for a gruelling series of tasks-- double the Detours, double the Road Blocks, and double the to-dos overall. This meant that the six remaining teams had two legs-worth of challenges and, with that, two final chances to use the Yield hourglasses obtained in Leg 2. Both of these were used against Kaylynn and Haley, securing the Mine Five alliance's progression in the race; the blondes were subsequently eliminated at the end of this eighth leg.
8. The ninth leg of the race was held in Thailand.

Answer: False

Nope! The teams travelled from Hyderabad to the city of Siem Reap, Cambodia in the ninth leg of the race, racing first out to a floating village on the waters of Tonlé Sap and then proceeding back into the city and eventually ending their leg at the eastern gate of Angkor Thom, the temple complex depicted.

The leg featured not only the Travelocity Roaming Gnome, but the last Double U-Turn of the season, the results of which forced brother and sister team Eswar and Aparna to be eliminated.
9. In Leg 10, teams travelled around the city of Manila in the Philippines in "The Amazing Race's" first ever...what?

Answer: City Sprint

The final four teams visited Lapu Lapu Circle in Rizal Park, Manila near the start of Leg 10 and were surprised to face off against yet another major twist of the season, and perhaps at the most critical point. For the first time, teams were intentionally equalized and sent on a speed run through their destination city, aiming to get back to the starting point in Rizal Park to check in at the Pit Stop, but without facing any Road Blocks or Detours.

This City Sprint, sending teams to a number of local landmarks for rapid-fire tasks in the chaos of Manila, resulted in the final three being decided when all was said and done.
10. In the final leg of the race, teams had to eat which of these when they visited New Orleans' French Quarter?

Answer: Beignets

Heading to New Orleans for a late-evening final leg of the race, the last three teams remaining travelled into the French Quarter for a Mardi Gras celebration on Bourbon Street, collecting coloured beads before their first Road Block in the Cafe Beignet (in which one team member felt their way through king cakes to find the baby hidden in one). Both team members indulged in a total of six beignets (between them) before continuing to the Crescent City Connection Bridge, Mardi Gras World, and the Mercedes-Benz Superdome where Will and James won the million dollar prize.

In a surprise finish line moment, Will proposed to James upon arriving as victors in this season.
