Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Last Outpost" what did the Ferengi steal from a Federation listening post on Gamma Tauri IV?

Answer: T-9 energy converter

The Ferengi thought Gamma Tauri IV was in their neutral zone, when in reality it is a Cardassian world and is on the border of the Federation Neutral Zone. The Ferengi stole a T-9 energy converter and tried to sell it on the black market, but got stopped by the Portal on Delphi Ardu IV and were forced to return it to where they stole it from. They will not be doing that again.
2. In "The Battle" DaiMon Bok uses this illegal Romulan device on Picard. What is it?

Answer: thought maker

Thought makers are illegal to own on all Ferengi worlds and some Federation and Vulcan worlds. It is dangerous to use it on humanoids because it transmits electromagnetic waves which can damage the brain. A thought maker comprises of two spheres. One is placed on an object or next to the person that the controller wants to brainwash, and all the user has to do is rotate the sides of the sphere to control the one placed on the victim.

The only way to stop the brainwashing is to destroy both spheres at the same time.
3. In "Rascals" this Ferengi used two stolen Klingon Birds of Prey to launch the incident named after him, until he was stopped by Captain Picard. Who is he?

Answer: Lurin

Who could forget the "DaiMon Lurin Incident" in "Rascals"? Odo quoted it to Worf in "Bar Association" to refresh his memory. On Stardate 46235.7 Lurin stole two Birds of Prey from the Klingons and marooned the Enterprise crew and a Federation science team on Largos VII. Lurin was operating an illegal mine on the planet, and forced them into slave labor. Lurin's plan was to sell the Enterprise on the Romulan black market but he failed. Lurin's plan backfired when the officers (all of whom were turned into kids by a transporter accident) rebelled against Lurin, and returned the three ships to their rightful owners. Lurin was placed in the brig, and traded to the Ferengi where he and his crew were given life prison terms in a Ferengi prison for piracy.
4. What are the laws of the Ferengi called?

Answer: The Rules of Acquisition

The Rules of Acquisition are laws on how to con your neighbor, and govern how the Ferengi do business. The Rules of Acquisition are similar to a pirate code since the Ferengi are pirates.
5. Ferengi poker is called what?

Answer: Tongo

Tongo is a mixture of poker and roulette. The object of the game is to win the pot, and get the most gold by the end of the game. In Tongo when you go all in you say Confront, when you raise you say Evade, when you call you say Acquire, and you say Retreat to fold. Dax is the first symbiont to win a game of Tongo having used it to sign a treaty with the Ferengi back when Dax was known as Curzon. According to Dax to win Tongo you need to confront when you know the other players have bad hands and less gold than you.
6. What is Ferengi roulette called?

Answer: Dabo

The saying in Dabo is "watch the wheel, not the girls". The Ferengi are known to cheat at Dabo, and sometimes rig the wheel so they win. Another species known to cheat at Dabo are the Yridians, who used a Gravimetric Scanner on the wheel. Odo was on the upper level and he spotted them using it and so did Quark, who caught them.

The two cheaters ran out of the casino and Odo arrested them and confiscated the device. When the Ferengi encountered the Wadi, they forced the Ferengi and the Deep Space 9 crew to play the dangerous role-playing game Chula, where one mistake can cost you your life. Odo and Quark had to beat the Wadi to get the Deep Space 9 crew out, and after that day Quark vowed not to cheat his guest.
7. A weapon the Ferengi use instead of a phaser is called what?

Answer: energy whip

In "Last Outpost" the Ferengi used these on the Enterprise crew that it activated a being called the Portal who forced the Ferengi to return the T-9 Energy Converter they stole from Gamma Tauri IV. The Portal is not a fan of the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition, but he does know Sun Tzu which allowed him to free both ships.

The T-9 energy converter was then returned to Gamma Tauri IV, and the Portal went back to sleep.
8. What game did Riker beat Nibor at in "Ménage à Troi"?

Answer: 3D Chess

The Ferengi love to play games, but they are bad losers when it comes to playing 3D Chess. Tog kidnapped Dianna and her mother Lwaxana, and Riker made a bargain with Tog that he could have them back if Riker beat Nibor at 3D Chess. Riker won the game, and used it as a diversion to get out of his cell and send a coded message to the Enterprise using the Ferengi's engines.
9. Who is the bartender on Deep Space 9?

Answer: Quark

Good old Quark. The Deep Space 9 crew come to his place all the time on their breaks. The only exception is Odo who would rather see Quark in jail, than running a bar.
10. What is the leader of the Ferengi called?

Answer: Nagus

The Nagus is the leader of the Ferengi and their chief businessman. Every law made by the Ferengi has his signature on it. In 2375 Rom was elected Nagas. When Quark's rival Brunt revoked his business license, Sisko went to Nagus Zek to get it reinstated, and removed Brunt as Chief Liquidator of the FCA.
