Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Lord Wingrave never met Rebeccas Jessel before she took the au pair job at Bly Manor.

Answer: False

A year before Dani's arrival at Bly Manor, Lord Wingrave's colleague, Peter Quint, completed his shopping and returned to the office to awaken Wingrave from his hangover. Unfortunately, his morning meeting couldn't be put off as a new au pair was somewhat required. That meeting was with Rebecca Jessel. Surprisingly no-nonsense, Jessel proved to be very forthcoming about the role and didn't balk at the questions being asked in her interview.

In fact, she seemed overqualified in many regards, having a great deal of non-required acumen that almost made her resume irrelevant. Nonetheless, her interview went well.
2. Before his disappearance, Peter Quint allegedly did which of the following?

Answer: Stole money from the Wingraves

Dani drew the lines quickly. Once she made sure Miles was safe, she contacted the police and indicated that she saw Peter Quint, a man in a photo she found in the music box in the forbidden wing (along with Rebecca Jessel). The police didn't need the positive identification though; they knew who Peter was and figured he'd be half a world away. Quint drained more than £200,000 from the Wingraves' bank accounts and allegedly fled. The constable asked that they lock their doors and windows; there wasn't much else to do. Despite his having done a sweep of the property, Dani decided to perform her own as well. Just in case.

Shortly after the interview, Jessel was accepted for the au pair role and she was brought to Bly Manor by Peter himself. On the ride, Peter admitted the children were a bit strange and having a tough go at coping. It wouldn't be the easiest job. Reaching Bly Manor, Ms. Jessel was introduced to the children and the staff in short time with Flora giving the tour. Rebecca found herself wishing that she might leave. It turned out she never would.
3. Who, according to Owen, might have been responsible for the recent 'prank' phone calls?

Answer: Peter

Dani found herself hunting for any sign of intruders in the statue garden, and it's there that she found a gun pointed at her by none other than Jamie who, conducting her own search, was just passing through. The pair headed to the chapel, spying light inside, but found that Ms. Grose had simply left her candles lit. Returning to the manor, Dani found the others making drinks in the kitchen. Owen and Jamie, who arrived when they were called, volunteered to remain at the house for the night, much to the children's delight (though both fell asleep quickly by the fire). Owen theorized that perhaps Peter was also responsible for the recent spate of prank phone calls; someone kept phoning Bly and hanging up without a word. If he didn't know of Rebecca's death, then perhaps it would explain everything.
4. According to Peter Quint, what was life all about?

Answer: Keys

Rebecca was great with the kids. Encouraging the children to expand their minds and be creative, she supported Flora's interest in dolls to the point where Flora said she would make her her own doll, one with all of the colours (since Rebecca liked all of them equally).

When Peter Quint arrived with flowers (pulled directly from the gardens outside), he presented them to Flora to make the governess just a bit jealous. Their search for a vase allowed Peter to have a quick chat with Miles, alone, and it was then that he bestowed a bit of wisdom on the boy, claiming that life was about keys and people were locked rooms with different locks. If they could find the keys for a person's doors, they could open up. Peter remained at the house through that evening and found himself caught there in a storm. Rebecca, urging him to stay, made some tea, and it became clear through their chat that he felt she was worth more than the role she'd taken on at Bly Manor.
5. What did Rebecca Jessel ultimately want to be?

Answer: A barrister

It didn't take much prying on Peter's part to find out what Rebecca was really after; she wanted to become a proper barrister, but she needed to receive a pupillage and get her foot in the door. She knew other women who received such, but dropped out within a year due to the rampant sexual harassment.

It's why she took a different route. If she got in with Wingrave's family, it could be easier. Their talk progressed to the living room where he was honest about his past and his motives. He knew his feelings for Rebecca quite early on and he was simply hopeful. Expressing this, he nervously made his leave back to London.
6. What, according to Jamie, did Peter mingle with the idea of love?

Answer: Possession

Still up in the night after the event, Dani and Jamie mused on Peter and Rebecca's photograph, hoping that it wasn't as bad as they all presumed. Jamie alleged that they had the wrong type of love-- she saw it-- and she hoped Rebecca would haunt him forever since she believed Peter mixed the ideas of 'love' and 'possession' in just the wrong ways. They tucked the kids into bed before everyone went to their rooms. Dani was the only one to experience something terrifying. Laying in bed, she turned over to see a bloodied hand reaching for her, but only for a moment.

Peter Quint returned to Bly Manor soon after his initial visit, this time intending to stay over a few days to run errands. Of course, in the night, Peter came calling.
7. Where did Dani locate Flora after discovering that she was missing from her bed?

Answer: By the pond

Awakening the morning after the scare, those within Bly Manor went about their activities. Owen found Ms. Grose in the chapel, lighting candles, and suggested he might ask the neighbour to check in on his mother so he could stay an extra day. Ms. Grose, however, found herself distracted by a crack in the stone wall not unlike the one she saw in the tiles in the kitchen. When she turned to look back at it later, it seemed to have disappeared.
Dani saw Miles already awake in his room when she checked in on him. Flora, however, wasn't in her bed.

Flora ended up making a doll for Rebecca. When she asked Peter what all of the colours made when combined, he suggested it was black. She and Rebecca both agreed it was nice to have him around.

Dani ended up locating Flora outside in the same spot by the pond, still in her pyjamas, this time staring out at the water. Dani never saw Rebecca staring out at her across the pool.
8. What possession did Peter offer up to Rebecca as a gift?

Answer: Fur coat

Dani called in a doctor when she found Flora inconsolable by the water outside. Ms. Grose reassured that it was not an abnormal occurrence for the girl. More concerning was the fact that their uncle, instead of returning to Bly Manor at once, instead just asked to be kept posted.

Rebecca and Peter continued to go about their ways over the week he remained at Bly Manor though his insistence on keeping her in his presence started to get concerning, at least to Rebecca. One day, while he pulled her in the forbidden wing, she spotted the footprints once again leading to the bedroom, believing the children to have wandered where they weren't supposed to be yet again. He asked for her trust before bringing her to the master bedroom for a glass of wine and a gift-- a fur coat. One of his projects, as he disclosed to her, was commencing inventory of the forbidden wing. It's then that he took the photos that Dani found in the music box. It didn't go much further than that. Ms. Grose found them in the room and insisted that Rebecca return to the children.
9. During Dani's first experience with Story-Time, the children pretended to be a puppet and what other character?

Answer: A cat

Despite the concerning events in the forbidden wing, Peter remained at the house a short time after though it was clear he had some reservations. After the kids were tucked in for bed in the night, Rebecca returned to her room to find Peter packing his belongings, ready to head back to London with haste. He very clearly blamed his decision on Rebecca's actions, chiefly for the way she tested the batter for Owen's cake earlier in the day, and it became apparent that he was already expecting her to act a very specific way on his account.

Dani continued to ponder the photograph in the kitchen, at least until the phone rang once again. This time when she picked up she asked if it was Peter on the other line before it hung up. There wasn't time to think on it; getting into new outfits and a bit of costume makeup, the children declared it was time for story-time. Taking the adults to the foyer, Flora and Miles told stories about a cat and a puppet. The dramatic and almost unsettling story only ended when the phone rang once again.
10. For the first time in Dani's stay at Bly Manor, someone responded on the other end of the ringing phone. Who was this call for?

Answer: Owen

When the phone rang, ending story-time, it was Jamie who answered it. Someone was on the other end, finally, this time asking for Owen. It was his neighbour. In his day-long absence, his mother passed away. He departed for the town of Bly alone while Ms. Grose headed to the chapel to light a candle. Before Jamie also made her departure, Dani thanked for for staying on.

The two shared a moment before Jamie hopped into the driver's seat only commenting "who the hell knew?" Dani was alone when she turned back to the house to see the spectre with the glowing eyes standing behind her.

As she began to tremble in fear, the figure was pulled back, away from her and into the house.
