Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who plays the title character?

Answer: Iain Armitage

Armitage was a 9-year-old boy playing the role of 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper. He was also a recurring actor in the show "Big Little Lies." Jim Parson gave Armitage advice on how to play the role of Sheldon Cooper.
2. Where does the show take place?

Answer: East Texas

Sheldon is a science-loving atheist growing up in one of the worst possible places to be a science-loving atheist. Almost everyone around him is Christian, which is what his mother wants him to be. Thankfully, Sheldon moved to California as an adult, where he now works at Cal-Tech University as a theoretical physicist.
3. Which member of Sheldon's family do we first see on "Young Sheldon" who we never see on "The Big Bang Theory" because he had passed away by the time that show takes place?

Answer: His father

Sheldon's father George is a football coach at the high school that Sheldon and Georgie attend. He died when Sheldon was 14, so we will never see him on "The Big Bang Theory," unless there's a flashback episode. In one episode of "Young Sheldon," George suffers a heart attack. Georgie steals his father's car and drives to whole family to the hospital, as they are worried that they may lose him. "Big Bang Theory" fans who know that Sheldon's father is dead on that show may have been worried that this was the episode that he dies. However, he recovers.

George is played by Lance Barber. An odd fact is that Barber also played Jimmy Speckerman, Leonard's high school bully on "The Big Bang Theory." Fans are often confused by his two different roles on the related shows.
4. Who is Sheldon's best friend on the show?

Answer: Tam

In episode two of season one, Sheldon's mom says that she is worried that Sheldon has no friends. Missy overhears this and tells this to Sheldon. Sheldon, who previously had no interest in making friends decided to try to make a friend to please his mother. Upon the librarian's suggestion, Sheldon reads the book "How to Make Friends and Influence People." The book doesn't work, and it turns out the only people who read it were his teachers.

However, as he returns the book, he meets Tam. They hit it off when they both learn that they both love science and have few friends.

They were friends from the second episode to the end of season one. Tam introduced Sheldon to some of his favorite non-scientific activities, including comic books and Dungeons and Dragons.
5. This woman has made one appearance on "The Big Bang Theory" in season nine. She is a regular character on "Young Sheldon" and she is played by Annie Potts. What relation is she to Sheldon?

Answer: Grandmother

Sheldon's maternal grandmother, or Mee Maw and he calls her, lives across the street from Sheldon's family. She often has dinner with the family. She smokes, drinks, gambles, dates two men at the same time, and may have done something horrible. In the third episode of season one, Mee Maw tells her grandkids that their grandfather, AKA "Pop Pop," used to have chest pains all the time. Sheldon says "Didn't he die of a heart attack?" Mee Maw replies "Well, for insurance purposes," possibly implying that Mee Maw murdered Pop Pop.

Despite her lack of morals, Mee Maw cares a lot about her grandchildren especially Sheldon. She's more tolerant of his quirks and in some ways takes better care of him than his parents do.
6. What's the name of the religion that Sheldon starts?

Answer: Mathology

Sheldon starts this religion after being unsatisfied with all of the major religions. In mathology, the only sin is being stupid. The only person to go to Sheldon's mathology speech was Billy.
7. What does Sheldon do to become popular at high school?

Answer: He helps the football team win

When the family is watching the game together, Sheldon says that teams shouldn't punt the ball on 4th down when they have a good chance of converting it. His father, the coach of the high school football team, decides to take Sheldon's advice. He then makes Sheldon his assistant play-caller.

The football team starts winning more games, and Sheldon becomes loved by everyone around him. But Sheldon hates this. He gets touched a lot (which he hates) he gets held up in the air a lot (which he hates), he gets invited to a party (which he hates), and more people start asking for football related advice for him, meaning that he never gets free time.

He gets a B+ on a test, which he feels is unacceptable by his standards. He decides to resolve the situation by telling his mom that he got a B+ and that Georgie, Missy, and Tam were at a party.

His mom scolds everybody and they don't want his help anymore except for Mee Maw, who can't be punished by her daughter (Sheldon's mom). Sheldon gets his Mee Maw off his back by intentionally telling her to be on the losing team.
8. Why does Sheldon hate geology?

Answer: A geologist implied he was immature

When Sheldon and Tam are eating in the library, Sheldon notices a woman checking reading a book on complicated science. This impresses Sheldon, and upon Tam's advice, Sheldon talks to the woman and he and Tam befriend her. The woman, named Libby is a geologist.

She shows Sheldon and Tam what geology is all about. This astonishes Sheldon's family, who thinks he has a girlfriend. Libby then invites Sheldon and Tam to go to an IMAX movie in Houston, which is a long way away from where Sheldon lives.

Sheldon's mom doesn't allow Sheldon to do this, and this makes Sheldon furious. Sheldon lets out his rage by cleaning the house like a madman. Mary then decides that Sheldon must let her meet the woman first. They invite Libby over to their house. Mary likes Libby and allows her to drive her son to Houston.

But then Libby says to Mary "Don't worry, I've been babysitting kids for years." This upsets Sheldon, who feels Libby just called her a baby. Sheldon decides not to go, and he then decides that geology is just a hobby and not a real science. Tam decides not to hang out with Libby anymore either, after he tried to put his arm around her and she told him not to do it.
9. Who bullies Sheldon more than anyone else, in the early seasons?

Answer: Bobbi

The Sparks family that lives next door to the Coopers is a family of bullies. The one who torments Sheldon the most is a young girl named Bobbi. She's only six, but she gets away with bullying Sheldon since no one believes him, and because people give him bad advice on how to deal with it.

Sheldon's dad talk to Bobbi's dad, while Sheldon's mom talks to Bobbi's mom. Bobbi's dad just doesn't believe Sheldon's dad, while Bobbi's mom doesn't care and she makes Mary leave her alone. Sheldon asks Missy to make Bobbi stop bullying him. Missy agrees to this, as long as Missy has the remote for a month while "Professor Proton" is on, but Missy instead hangs out with Bobbi and doesn't stop the bullying.
10. Sheldon has kids

Answer: True

At the very end of season one, Jim Parsons, who narrates the show as the adult version of Sheldon, says that he drew up contracts for his friends, his wife, and his children. Sheldon's love of making contracts began after, upon Mee Maw's request, Sheldon draws up a relationship agreement for Mee Maw and professor John Sturgis, an agreement that says Sheldon can't spy on them.
