Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Is it possible to save your game file before heading into Crocodile Cauldron?

Answer: Yes

While it's not possible to save in Crocodile Cauldron itself until later on, you can head back into Gangplank Galleon, the game's first stage, and save at Wrinkly's Kong Kollege before heading into the new area. Doing so, however, will cost you two Banana Coins to catch a flight with Funky. Before all later stages of the game you can employ the same tactic, ensuring that you don't run out of lives and have to start way back from your previous save (wherever that may have been) all over again.
2. Hot Head Hop introduces the Kongs to lava. To cross, they can jump on Krocheads. These can be green or which colour?

Answer: Brown

There are only two Krocheads found in the lava pits of Crocodile Cauldron, and using them is integral to advancing through the stages. Green ones are basic, small platforms the Kongs can jump on to ensure they don't slip into the dangerous pits while brown ones will actually launch the Kongs into the air, enabling them to cross larger gaps than with a regular jump.

Many of these heads can involve clever timing, so having a good rhythm while crossing levels can be a great boon.
3. What spidery animal companion can be found in the Hot Head Hop level?

Answer: Squitter

Squitter the Spider makes his debut appearance across the entire "Donkey Kong Country" series in Hot Head Hop, Crocodile Cauldron's first stage, and like the others before him, he allows the Kongs to ride on his back to cross the stage. Squitter's main abilities involve shooting webs; his main shot is a powerful projectile while his secondary ability involves shooting webs to create timed platforms.

These platforms can be put to great use while crossing gaps or accessing Bonus Barrels, as one would expect. Squitter returns in Krem Quay, the game's third area.
4. Kannon's Klaim is the only general level of the game not to contain a DK Coin.

Answer: False

Weirdly, while it does contain a DK Coin, the item is found within the first Bonus Barrel of the stage; this is the only level in the game in which this occurs. This also happens to be the first mine-themed level. Here, Diddy and Dixie need to make their way up through the mine-shaft, home to Kannons, which shoot barrels (or worse) at the Kongs and swooping Mini-Neckies. To head upward, the Kongs need to use barrels and hooks.

This setting returns later on in Crocodile Cauldron and then once more, way down the line in K. Rool's Keep.
5. Which Kong is the first to appear in Crocodile Cauldron?

Answer: Swanky

Swanky Kong, despite being last to appear in Gangplank Galleon, is the first to appear in Crocodile Cauldron, offering three more quiz games in exchange for banana coins (and, subsequently, one-up, two-up, and three-up balloons); he can be visited after Hot Head Hop. Funky appears next, being found after Kannon's Klaim. Wrinkly's Kong Kollege comes after Lava Lagoon and Cranky shows up after Red Hot Ride, accounting for all four non-playable Kongs helping on the journey.
6. What is the name of the animal buddy found in Lava Lagoon who allows the Kongs to travel through boiling water by cooling it down?

Answer: Clapper

Clapper the seal makes his first of two appearances in this game in the third level of Crocodile Cauldron, Lava Lagoon, a swimming-heavy level in a boiling part of the crashed Gangplank Galleon. Here, the Kongs need to hop onto Clapper's back, allowing him to shoot enough bubbles into the water to cool it down for a short period of time; only one jump is needed. What they need to watch out for, however, is that the water will return to its normal, boiling temperature if they take too long getting out. Clapper is one of the few animal buddies that the Kongs can not ride.
7. In Red-Hot Ride, what exactly gets ridden?

Answer: Hot air balloons

Red-Hot Ride is a unique level in the sense that it's the only one to feature blue riding balloons which sink to the ground unless a jet of hot air is used to propel them upwards. That's precisely the aim of this fourth level of Crocodile Cauldron. The Kongs can stand on the balloons and can be moved as normal (they'll only fall off if they jump off).

The goal is to cross large expanses of lava and avoid the Zingers and other enemies along the way. Rambi the Rhino appears early on as well, and he's able to clear a bit of the path (at least for the first half).
8. What direction must you head in Squawks's Shaft?

Answer: Up

Like the previous mine level, Kannon's Klaim, the stage is oriented in a way that forces the Kongs to head from the bottom to the top, only reaching the finishing platform when they ascend through the cavern. To do this, the Kongs first need to navigate using a series of barrels.

The second half of the stage takes place almost entirely in the claws of Squawks the Parrot, a cracker-shooting animal buddy with the ability to fly the Kongs where they need to go. This is Squawks' first level in "Donkey Kong Country 2", but he appeared in a single level in the first game of the series (albeit not as a ride).
9. To defeat Kleaver in Kleaver's Kiln, you need to hit the boss with which of these items?

Answer: Cannonballs

Kleaver's Kiln takes the Kongs directly into the hottest part of the fire (so to speak) to face off against K. Rool's magical sword. Here, the aim of the game is to throw cannonballs at the sword until it's destroyed; it takes six to win. During the battle, however, Kleaver will throw fireballs at the Kongs and, eventually, rise high out of the lava pits below to chase them across the arena. Luckily, strategically-placed hooks can help the Kongs jump to safety while they await the drop of their next cannonball.

When it's defeated, Kleaver will break apart and plunge into the lava.
10. Spending fifteen Kremcoins at Klubba's Kiosk in Crocodile Cauldron will take you to which of these Lost World levels?

Answer: Jungle Jinx

Crocodile Cauldron marks the first point in the game at which you can stop off at Klubba's Kiosk. This gigantic foe will guard a golden barrel and will only let Diddy and Dixie pass through if they pay up fifteen Kremcoins, all obtained by completing Bonus Barrels and boss battles throughout the game.

This first kiosk takes the Kongs to the Lost World stages to complete Jungle Jinx, a level set in a lush jungle full of spiky pathways, expansive barrel-laden gaps, and gigantic, bouncy tires. It's not for beginners.
