Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Poppin' Planks (2-1), is it possible to swim?

Answer: No

Poppin' Planks, the first level taking the Kongs out of the Jungle and right around to the seaside, allows Donkey Kong and Diddy to begin on the sands and move along what appears to be the bridges and workings of a shipyard. Platforms raise and lower on pulleys and winches from start to finish and the two can shoot out to old wrecks out in the water for bonuses.

At one point, the two can even detach and make use of a barrel raft to float across a large gap of water. Keep in mind that the Kongs can't swim here; the raft is necessary.
2. In Sloppy Sands (2-2), which of these are shot from cannons?

Answer: Squids

Taking place almost entirely on a sandy waterfront, Sloppy Sands' boardwalks are rife with cannons which can not be destroyed by any means. All of these will shoot one of two things: squids...or electric squids, and obviously the electric ones can't be jumped on.

The last portion of the stage shoots the Kongs toward a large tower out at sea, and they need to ascend via hoisted sand buckets to reach the barrel at the end.
3. If you visit Cranky's shop on the Beach, you can purchase one-up balloons.

Answer: True

Red one-up balloons can be purchased in Cranky's Shop after you complete the second level of the Beach (or, alternatively, by heading back to the Jungle). While many of the earlier levels of the Beach hide balloons in spades, you can always visit Cranky's, spend Banana Coins, and grab them in singles or bundles of three or seven. Your first visit to this particular shop will also bear the presence of a Key, of course.
4. Peaceful Pier (2-3) is the first level of the game to feature which of these?

Answer: Rocket barrel

The name Peaceful Pier may seem like a bit of a misnomer when you make your first visit there since the level is actually the first to feature the rocket barrel, a vehicle which the Kongs can use to fly across the stage if they can maneuver it properly.

While one would normally be able to head straight across this long expanse of unswimmable water, the Kongs are, of course, pursued by the bosses of the Beach region on their pirate ship and they will not hesitate to fire explosives in the way of the rocket barrel.
5. What symbol appears on the bombs shot in Cannon Cluster (2-4)?

Answer: Skull

While this level, like many of the others before it, simply takes place on a beach, DK and Diddy end up spending a lot of their time dodging bombs shot toward them on the sands from a slew of distant pirate ships. Fortunately, most of these can be dodged with clever timing and jumps or, else, wood barriers.

The further into the level you get, the more tasks which need to be completed to escape the explosions. Breaking down barriers comes to mind. Almost jeeringly, the bombs have skulls on them.
6. Squiddicus appears in what Beach level?

Answer: Stormy Shore

Stormy Shore (2-5) brings the Kongs to just that-- a Stormy Shore with wind-whipped beaches and poor, makeshift shelters comprised of old wrecks. Oh yeah, and there's also a giant squid who goes by the name Squiddicus who spends his spare time fighting through shelter windows, breaking down wooden barricades, and just being a nuisance throughout the entire level. Squiddicus comes back in "Tropical Freeze" (Wii U).
7. Purchasing the Key from Cranky's shop allows you to skip what previous level?

Answer: Cannon Cluster

Using the key on the path found after the stage's third level, Peaceful Pier, will allows you to skip Cannon Cluster (2-4) if need-be though the sixth level of the Beach, Blowhole Bound, may not be better depending on your preferences. Blowhole Bound takes place mostly on the back of a flat whale who will transport the Kongs across the otherwise unsafe water near the shore.

Not all of the level is on the back of a whale though; you can untether them when you need them.
8. In level 2-7 you can get swept off the stage by a rogue wave. What is the name of this particular level?

Answer: Tidal Terror

Set on a stormy shore, Tidal Terror (2-7) is the final platform level on the trail to the boss battle at the end of the Beach stage. Here, the Kongs have to make their way along rocky shoals while avoiding a semi-regular tidal wave. This can be done by hiding amongst the wreckage of wrecked ships and behind large, stone pillars. If the Kongs get caught in the wave it will have the power to sweep them off the stage completely, causing a one-hit wave knockout and costing an extra life each time.
9. Donkey Kong and Diddy fight how many members of the Scurvy Crew during the Beach boss battle?

Answer: Three

After six or seven platforming levels, DK and Diddy head into a boss battle against the Scurvy Crew, a trio of crabs hiding out in the Pinchin' Pirates stage. The three, hypnotized by the Tikis, of course, spend time eating the Kongs' bananas before arrival.

This, of course, means it's time to fight. To win against the trio, you need to hop onto each crab four times to knock them out of the battle. Do this and you unlock the third area-- the Ruins.
10. In the Tumblin' Temple (2-K) level, what obstacle must the Kongs deal with?

Answer: Falling platforms

Unlocked when you collect all of the K-O-N-G Letters in the Beach area, Tumblin' Temple opens up south of Tidal Trouble near the end of the region. This Banana Temple is rife with platforms standing in pits of lava and others which fall from the ceiling, making the level very time-sensitive. No matter which platform you land on, it'll sink into the lava and take the Kongs with it unless precise movements are made.

When you reach the end, you can collect a rare blue orb.
